The vocals, the beats, and the cinematography that went into the official music video were nothing short of flawless.

I legit had that song on repeat for months on end, to the point where I got tired of listening to it. By that time, I had memorized the lyrics, word for word.

It sent me into stalker mode; I researched their background and their journey into both the music and film industries. They both deserve every accolade.

Chloe went on to release even more masterpieces, all phenomenal. And then Halle released the viral song “Angel.” The first time I listened to that piece, I was stunned. Clearly she invested a whole lot into it emotionally. And there I was thinking Chloe was individually great, and Halle was an expert.

The vocal range was insane. Man, that song spoke to my soul, in a language I had never heard before yet understood perfectly. That song made me fall even deeper in love with those sisters.

They both possess amazing singing talents. I’m pretty sure they worked to get to where they are now vocally because they started singing at a very young age.

Anyways, this is all to say that I am a huge fan of the Bailey sisters; I’ve sung some of their songs in the past and hope to do more. My presentation today is a tribute to them, Halle especially. I did a rendition of her song “In Your Hands.”

When I cook, I usually keep my phone propped up on my cutlery shelf. I had my YouTube playlist going, listening to random songs on shuffle. I was actually frying up some plantains when this song came on—Beautiful Things by Benson Boone.

It wasn’t new to me, like I said in the video; the song is a famous one. It was trending all over YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and the like. For some reason, probably because of the song mixed with the delicious aroma of fried plantain in the air, I was drawn to the melody of the song like never before.

It felt like it was my first time listening to it. As though a third eye opened up, and suddenly I could assimilate the lyrics, and they resonated with me. In that moment, I decided I was going to make my own rendition of it.

Given the week’s theme being Vacation, I felt it fit perfectly because by merely listening to it, it feels like you are on a temporary vacation. The music transports you into another dimension.

It’s week 280, and we are back here again to share our rendition for the week’s theme which is Drawing. I’ll admit, this theme was quite tricky to wrap a song around. After much research and soul searching, I chose the song “The night we met” sang by Lord Huron.

Something about that song got me in my feeling. I loved the harmony, the deep and baritone of the singer. It’s definitely a song that gets you in the reflective spirit. After listening to it the first time, I played again, and again, and again, and eventually left on repeat.

It was quite the task looking for a song that fit the theme, especially after everyone already took monopoly of The titanic song😅.

I'm pretty sure @verbal-d has heard enough renditions to last him a year. I mean I'm sure just like me, everyone tried their best to make the most of what they found.

For this week, I choose the song Fire and the Flood by Vance Joy. It was featured in the animated movie Storks which debuted back in 2016. An amazing movie that portrayed a baby making and delivery system that went extinct.

But through the letter of a young kid who wanted a younger brother so badly, and some unfortunate but lucky circumstances, the company started right back. And his little sibling was eventually delivered to him.

You should definitely watch it, it's absolutely worth the 2 hours. You might even shed a few tears.

It is yet another cycle of the Hive Open Mic, and I am elated. This week's theme was something alright.

'Mermaid', I mean my mind first flew to the movie "Little Mermaid" but I had already sang their iconic song.

So I instead chose to go down memory lane. And my mind managed to dig up a song I hadn't heard since 2016; when it was first introduced to me through an internet video.

I remember being obsessed with the song: Reggae shark. It told the story of this very cool Rastafarian Shark.

He was once human and was cursed by a jelly fish😅 who transformed him into a shark. Pretty funny story.

Anyways, I thought, Mermaids + Sharks = Sea Creatures so why not use the opportunity to share with you guys this amazing song piece. God bless you as you listen!

You gotta admit, the week's theme is quite the task. 1930's to 1940's music? I don't even have family members that were alive in that era😅😅

But it's okay because while perusing, looking for the perfect jam, I got a taste of what music was like back then.

And hey, I also noticed the huge impact oldies jazz music has on the music of today. Most musicians either recycle the beats, or sing their own cover of OG songs.

Hello fellow singers and musicians. It feels great to be back participating on Hive Open Mic, and it's week 254 already.

For this week's theme being "Break away', I decided to present a song that has been on my heart for the last couple of weeks. "Somewhere Only We Know" sung by Keane.

The lyrics tell a story of two lovers propelling each other to find their way back to a place where they once knew. In the first verse, it portrays one of them walking across what I would presume to be a forest, or a field.

He describes it as an empty land, apparently to him, every step into this land feels familiar, every brush against the leaves and the earth beneath his feet all feel like home to him.

I resonated with this concept because when I feel overwhelmed, and taking a break sounds like a great idea, I also tend to seek solace in nature. And so even if I'm walking a path for the first time, it still would feel familiar.

So "breaking away", for me, involves nature and light. That is why I chose this particular song.
