I still dont have my audio interface but I stole my daughters cheap mic she uses for talking with her friends. So it sounds a bit tinny. I just cant stand to wait around anymore and I apologize for releasing something that sounds as bad as this does.

While many people all across the Hive blockchain is all giddy over the success of Leo Threads (and they should be). And the "coming Project Blank" that has been touted for over a year now as a " Web3 Twitter competitor. My hopes were undeniably high.
That turns out to be another boneheaded move on my part. To get my expectations up. To think and actually believe that what they were doing was literally ground breaking and could possibly change the face of the internet connected world. I mean, just imagine. A short form free speech platform for anybody to post about any topic.
Except thats not what it turned out to be.Talk about feeling bamboozeled. Thought it was about free speech and bringing people to the Hive blockchain. But nope. Just a way to boost traffic on their frontend and push that token.

Move along nothing to see here unless you want to pump our 2nd layer token.

I've got to admit. I'm very torn on LeoThreads. On one hand I am very excited that there is something extremely cool about the way they've done it and kept them from being a top level post.

But on the other hand they've been pushing this "Project Blank" thing for so long that I was under the impression that this was Project Blank. Only after the drop of threads did I find out that this was a "proof of concept" for Project Blank. You can imagine my dissappointment that this wasnt it. Threads seems to be nothing more than a way to create more engagement and traffic on Leofinance. Which is fine. I think all dapps should do such a thing. But the hype for it was a little over the top in my opinion. That just made the let down that much bigger for me personally.

All I know is that if and when the "decentralized twitter alternative"code named Project Blank is finally released. I hope and pray it knocks it out of the park and doesnt come splattered with a bunch of Leofinance branding. Because it will only attract crypto enthusiasts and not average people looking to do twitter like shit posts about stupid stuff.

Umbrel

I just installed Umbrel this morning on my old laptop running Pop!OS 22.04. It's now syncing my Bitcoin node and I will be running my own Lightning node as well. It's also hosting my IPFS Podcasting node as well.

Some things you may want to know if you install it on your own computer running an Ubuntu/Debian based distro.

• You must have at least a 1TB hard drive. The instructions say a 1 TB external hard drive. I plugged mine in just to be sure and it worked fine but it is not using the external drive. Probably because I have a 1TB internal drive.

• Install docker and docker-compose before you run the install script. The install script will attempt to install docker from a repo that does not exist. When you run the install script append the command with -s -- --no-install-docker --no-install-docker-compose will solve this.

• Once it is installed the docs say to open umbrel.local in your browser. If you installed it on an existing Ubuntu installation you will need to go to your computers hostname.local or the local ip address of that computer.

Free cross platform app for video content creators!

Qprompt a free teleprompter app. It even has an apk installer so I'm guessing it runs on android phones as well. Check it out and let me know if it helps you in the content creation.

Linux Update

Im still using Pop!OS and still loving it. I did switch to the KDE Plasma 5 desktop because it seems to run way better than the Gnome/Cosmic on my set up. I also do not like Gnome, still.

Whats happening peeps?

It's day 2 of week 3 in the Dreemport Ecency challenge and todays portion was actually easy for me. We had to create a banner to use whenever we tip someone's post on Ecency. It's a feature that can be done if you run aross a post that is to old to be upvoted or you dont have enough to do a boost on it. You can tip them Ecency points directly. It does Hive and HBD as well.

This video is a "speed" video in which I recorded a screencast of me using Gimp, a free and open source photo editor similar to Photoshop.

I pirated (borrowed?) @dreemsteem banner she made so I could make sure I had the correct dimensions of the image. I also used to to compare what I was creating to make sure I got something similar but not the same design.

When I was happy with what I created I removed her image layer from the project and exported the final image. I then ran the images through an app called Metadata Cleaner which is, I think, a Linux only app at the momment. It's available on Flathub so any version of Linux can install it easily. I'm sure there are a plethora of similar apps for you Windows & Mac peeps out there.

The Result

Here is the banner I made in the video. Its pretty generic and anybody is free to use it if you want. No credit to me is necessary.

I also came up with the idea of constantly changing my banner. I'm going to use quotes of generosity in them and will create 2 different ones for my personal use each month.
These will have my face branded on them. So I ask you not to use these.

If anybody needs help in making a banner I first suggest you check out Canva. It's free and fricking awesome and easy to use. So easy this bonehead used it to create the intro and outro for these videos. Lol.
If you still come up with anything hit me up and I will help as much as I can. Just keep in mind I cant make everybodys. My team mates will come first though.

Leading with Generosity

Yesterday I got so flustered with that post that I hit publish without adding the beneficiary. So today I'm going to do it. The beneficiary of 100% of this post goes to someone I think doesnt get hardly any recognition for everything he does. On chain and off chain. He has been there consistently over the last year and half for me personally. Even longer for others. He's no stranger to generosity either. Of all the people on Hive I've talked to most is without a doubt him. I know as soon as you go look at his profile you will think I'm nuts. Since he hasnt posted for 9 months. And even then it was pure 100% shit post.

But the dude is unwaivering in his support for Hive. He's the creator and maintainer of MSPWave and the coming SplinterlandsTV which is already in operaton with a full schedule. He's help tutor countless budding radio/video streamers start and run their own shows on the blockchain including myself. The dude is none other than @r0nd0n.

And he deserves way more than what this post will probably bring him. So please upvote as much as you can, reblog it and share it on the old social media!

Maybe if we tag him enough in other posts he might make some time to actually post something before the end of 2022! Lol.

I think I finally found my home distro

I should probably start this off by saying that this video is not sponsored by System76. But if anybody at System76 would like to donate a [Meercat](Meerkat - System76) or Thelio to me I would be more than happy to shill your products to the end of time!

Pop!OS 22.04

Is a Linux distro based on Ubuntu 22.04 and that is where the similarites end. It uses the Cosmic desktop (customized version of Gnome 42) and it is beautiful. Flatpak and deb packages run out of the box through the Pop Store. Ubuntu's snap packages are completely removed and this little distro is lightning fast on both of my computers. The big desktop as well as the little Chromebook C300. I gotta say I have fallen in love with it.

Actual use cases

The day job

I had it installed, updated and my online accounts set up in 30 minutes. In fact that day I used it for work. So I kept using it for work instead of the work issued laptop. And it's a lot faster than that windows machine.

On the windows machine it I have to use Google Chrome and it gets laggy. On Pop!OS I stlll use Google Chrome but it just feels a lot faster at page rendering and load times. The performance for work these last two weeks have been nothing short of amazing.

Mostly thanks to the tiling windows feature. Made me feel like I was on i3 again. Loved it!

Play time

I was able to run Lightworks, Reaper and pretty much anything else I want to do like I have for years in Linux. Everything has just worked so far.

In a time when it seems everybody is shilling Fedora as the best or seemless Linux experience. I'm gonna say nope. Pop!OS is the one distro you should try.

I tried adding some themes and icons but ended up going back to the defaults because they honestly just looked better.
If you want to install a distro and just get some work done so you can play later. This is your distro.
And I'm keeping this one.

I know, thats another click baity title but maybe it will get you to thinking.

Some of you know that I have been "guest curating" for Ecency. Who knows maybe I even voted on one of your posts. If I did I truly hope it helped you.
I've learned a lot from doing it and I absolutely love it. It really is different to curate for someone else rather than yourself. And I found myself having to put myself into a different mindset to do it correctly.

In this 27 minute video I go over some things about curating content and what is the difference between good and bad quaility content.

What are they? Well I'm gonna make you watch the video! I worked hard on the new intro and outro. Let me know what you think of them. I also am now using Lightworks to do the editing and post production. I'm really enjoying it and the videos are starting to look a lot better. Do you see and hear a difference?

The biggest take away from this video and my opinion is this:

• Publish your best content.

Things to keep in mind

1. It isnt YouTube or Odeyese. Do not compare them.
2. This is new technology that no one else is putting these peices together in this way.
3. Expect things to break occasionaly.
4. There is an 11% share on your reward that is more than fair as a cost to use their service. Its very possible to make this back and more if the @threespeak curators upvote your video.
   Watch this video by @eddiespino to see how to meet the requirements for upvotes.
5. There are many things that could cause problems with uploading to 3Speak.

• Your cache on your web browser

• Your hardware. If you are running a 10 yr old laptop with 4gb of ram on a wifi connection. Use extreme patitience.

• Your connection to the internet.

• Your geographical location

• IPFS is slow until more nodes come online.

  So lets say you have your video recorded and edited and ready to post.
  Do NOT just log in and start uploading and then write your post. Do all this before you log into 3Speak.

Bonus Tip: You can always go sneak a look at the #issues room in the 3Speak discord to see if there are any issues they are having right before you log in.
