Oh, time, and music. The history of music is so awesome, and there are certain definitive era's. Soul, blues, rock, glam rock, punk, metal, pop punk, nu metal, indie rock... what is next? Or, what era are we in right now?

It seems like a conglomerate of everything is coming back. People want nostalgia, and most style have been done... or have they? Are we now officially in the age of AI music?

Yes, a new era is amoung us! We have now stepped into a new relam... development, drive, determination, desire..... EVOLUTION!

Welcoming us ALL to the latest march forwards. The new changes - another step towards collective growth! May your goals all be achieved!

This week - I just couldn't stop. This guitar solo wen't on and on! I did record this the other day and havdn't had the time(?) to get around to posting it. But, all I ask if you us to enjoy - that is what music is all about! We all feel it - the connection, and love that music brings us all. It is not over yet, it has only just begun!

Played on my Les Paul Custom (Epiphone). I wanted to go a little harder with this one, my typical playing is more blues/rock, and I always love some shred, so I tried to unleash! I have been working on some Acoustic stuff recently, so maybe I will change it up for next weeks entry!

Either way... peace and love to you all! Such an amazing platform and community here - I am always blown away by everyone's perfromances and commitment - we are all in this together. As I say at the end of my video... WE ARE THE ONES!

Congratualtions to EVERYONE on last weeks competition, all of the winners, and all of the entries!

Are you all ready for another AWESOME week of music? I am!

I wanted to write a new original song for this weeks entry, and I thought, for most of you, the summer is coming to an end. Funnily enough, it is just entering Spring here in New Zealand, but I wanted to reflect the chill summer vibes that I know many of you are enjoying, and some of us are longing for!

I kept this to around 2 minutes, and yes it is a demo song, I mixed it all and added some soft drums which have the tape 90s sound to it which I quite like. Just acoustic guitar for this, which was fun! I really enjoy writing music, and sometimes a few things come together like this one.

What do you all think? Should I make this into a full length song with another verse and a guitar solo? If you ask, you shall recieve! :)

I am also excited for Week 41, where we will join INLEO for another new development and jounrey in the VIBES world! It will be cool to see how this all plays out :)

Best of luck to everyone this week! Now, for this weeks theme of 'movie themes and soundtracks' I wanted to merge it in with a tribute to The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy's music has always been a huge influenece for me, and millions around the world. His spirit lives on through his music!

So, which solo is your favourite? I have mixed in my TOP 3 solos! I would love to know which was your favoruite!

Get ready to dance! As I said, not quite a techno or EDM style from me, but this is a step up from my usual blues, and I sure hope it makes you nod your heads! :D

Bustin out the LTD M10 Custom once more for this jam! A real fun lively backing track, but still has somewhat of a late night vibe! As always, a lot of fun jamming once warm :) I'm saying that as I am typing with my hands frozen hardly able to move as it is now winter here in New Zealand and is a bout 2 degrees outside (...and inside), so I am going to head outside and get on a walk or bike to generate some heat! Then, practice and commence!

In Part 1

I was not only recording in a dark room and a lot younger, I had just upgraded my $150 LTD M10 with some Seymour Duncan pickups, worth around $200. This LTD was my first guitar since I have been living in New Zealand, and I won't let this one get away :) not just for nostalgia, but, it rocks! I love playing it. The neck is glorious, it might be the nicest neck I have ever played! There are some minor action and fret issues, but if that was all sorted this would be perfect.

The upgrades - you might have seen in my previous videos where I have displayed my 'tuned' Epiphone, which is a real screamer! This now has the Duncan's in, meaning the LTD has the Les Paul Custom pickups in! Sounds and feels great :)

In reality, and to conclude, there is a lot more I could do - tuners, nut, bridge, frets, caps, pots... but, there isn't really any need. I think sometimes working out and feeling a tone and be great. At the end of the day, if you love a guitar, that is all that's needed :) keep rocking everyone!

Back with another review, and this time, it's a pedal review! This is a first for me. Well, maybe calling it a review is a bit of a stretch—it's more of a playthrough and sound demo. I skip a lot of the features this pedal offers and dive straight into the sounds. Some people have asked how I get my tone, and here it is! Most of my sounds come from this pedal, which I run through Ableton Live Lite (the free version).

In this video, I explore a wide range of sounds—from clean tones to drives, wah, delay, and even programmed tones inspired by artists like Slash, Gary Moore, and Steve Vai. There are also some very unusual sounds that I’m not sure where I’d ever use, but they’re cool in their own way!

Here’s a brief description from Rock Shop NZ:

The Zoom G1X FOUR features over 70 effects and amp models, a looper, and a drum machine. Plus, you can access ZOOM Guitar Lab’s library of downloadable effects. Plug in and be amazed!

That sums up what this pedal can do! I didn’t mess with the drum or looper functions, and I haven’t even tried the Guitar Lab yet. This pedal is a budget-friendly option—around 200 NZD, 150 USD, or 100 GBP—which isn’t bad at all. Honestly, I don’t need much more, though maybe a longer looper would be nice (the current one lasts 30 seconds, which is usually enough for me).

For this demo, I’m playing on my Epiphone Les Paul Custom (made in Korea, 2000) fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups. Hope you enjoy the video! Peace and love!

Yes, this Limited Edition Les Paul Custom is an Epiphone! With (to my understanding) Gibson hardware! How does it sound to you? To me, it sounds and feels amazing! Especially with these Elixir 10's on! I didn't quite realize how much strings can make a difference. The guitar shop didn’t have any Ernie Ball 10s left, so I went with these, which were a bit pricier, but the coating on them makes them feel brand new even after months! I love it! I think I’ve found my new go-to strings :) I hardly change them anyway... until one busts!

Sí, la Les Paul Custom de Edición Limitada es una Epiphone. ¡Con (hasta donde sé) hardware de Gibson! ¿Cómo te suena a ti? Para mí, suena y se siente increíble, ¡especialmente con estas cuerdas Elixir 10! No me había dado cuenta de cuánto pueden marcar la diferencia unas buenas cuerdas. En la tienda de guitarras no tenían Ernie Ball 10s, así que opté por estas, que fueron un poco más caras, pero el recubrimiento hace que se sientan como nuevas incluso después de meses. ¡Me encantan! Creo que he encontrado mi nuevo set favorito :) Apenas cambio las cuerdas... hasta que se rompa alguna.

First of all, I want to express how truly honored I am to have come in first place last week! It genuinely meant the world to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for me, to the judges for highlighting my song, and to everyone who took the time to listen and enjoy it. I also want to send a big congratulations to all the participants—I thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone’s videos and celebrating the creativity and talent in this amazing community.

Now, here we are, ready for another week of exciting performances! For this round, I’m going back to what I love most—Guitar Solos! This time, I’ll be diving into a Fusion Blues style, which has been such a fulfilling experience for me. With everything going on in life (and I know many of you can relate), it’s been a welcome escape. I’m not complaining, but music is my outlet, my passion, and this jam session was exactly what I needed to lose myself in the moment and let the music take over.

I’m incredibly excited for the next phase of these competitions, and I have to give a shout-out to the Vibes team, who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep this competition running smoothly. Let’s all continue to show our support and make this a fantastic experience for everyone!

También quiero felicitar a todos los participantes; disfruté muchísimo viendo los videos de todos y celebrando la creatividad y el talento de esta increíble comunidad.

¡Y ahora, estamos listos para otra semana llena de actuaciones emocionantes! Para esta ronda, vuelvo a lo que más amo: ¡Solos de Guitarra! Esta vez, me sumergiré en un estilo de Blues Fusión, algo que me ha llenado por completo. Con todo lo que está sucediendo en la vida (y sé que muchos de ustedes lo entienden), ha sido un escape muy necesario. No me estoy quejando, pero la música es mi vía de escape, mi pasión, y esta sesión de improvisación fue exactamente lo que necesitaba para perderme en el momento y dejar que la música me lleve.

A few months ago, I went on a recruitment rampage on YouTube, trying to introduce more people to the world of Hive and crypto. I managed to get a few friends interested enough to check it out, but honestly, it took a lot of convincing. Most of my YouTube audience isn’t familiar with crypto, and many of them assumed it was some kind of scam right off the bat. I did my best to explain how it works and show them it’s legit, but they were still skeptical.

For the ones who did give it a shot, the process turned out to be a bit more challenging than expected. Signing up, creating an account, setting up wallets—it was overwhelming for them, and most gave up halfway through. After seeing this firsthand, it made me question whether the process is just too complex for the average person. Out of the seven people I tried to recruit, none made it through, which makes me wonder if it’s an issue with the platform’s accessibility or if my audience just isn’t that interested in crypto or Hive.

But deep down, I believe there’s still potential. If I could figure out a better way to explain things or make the onboarding process easier to understand, I honestly think I could get 30 to 50 musicians involved. That’s a lot of potential for the community! I know it’s on me to find a way to communicate it more clearly. So, that’s something I’m working on!

Hace unos meses, me lancé a una campaña de reclutamiento en YouTube, tratando de introducir a más personas al mundo de Hive y las criptomonedas. Logré que algunos amigos se interesaran lo suficiente como para echarle un vistazo, pero la verdad, me tomó mucho esfuerzo convencerlos. La mayoría de mi audiencia en YouTube no está familiarizada con las criptomonedas, y muchos de ellos asumieron de inmediato que se trataba de una estafa. Hice todo lo posible por explicarles cómo funciona y demostrarles que es algo legítimo, pero seguían siendo escépticos.

Para aquellos que decidieron intentarlo, el proceso resultó ser más complicado de lo que esperaban. Registrarse, crear una cuenta, configurar las billeteras... fue demasiado para ellos, y la mayoría abandonó a mitad de camino. Ver esto de primera mano me hizo cuestionar si el proceso es demasiado complejo para el usuario promedio. De las siete personas que traté de reclutar, ninguna completó el proceso, lo que me hace pensar si el problema es la accesibilidad de la plataforma o si simplemente mi audiencia no está tan interesada en las criptomonedas o en Hive.

Pero, en el fondo, creo que hay mucho potencial. Si pudiera encontrar una mejor manera de explicar las cosas o de hacer que el proceso de registro sea más fácil de entender, sinceramente creo que podría involucrar a entre 30 y 50 músicos. ¡Eso sería un gran impulso para la comunidad! Sé que depende de mí encontrar una forma más clara de comunicarlo. Así que, en eso estoy trabajando.

In this video, I discuss whether I think an Epiphone can match a Gibson. This was a cheap Epiphone Les Paul Custom that I grabbed for $300 NZD and upgrade it with some sweet Seymour Duncan pickups—an SH-4 in the bridge and an SH-2n in the neck, both picked up used for $200 NZD. 💸

Now, that is an absolute bargain for an Epiphone Les Paul Custom - it was essentially a barn find and needed a lot of TLC!

The big question: Can this Epiphone give a Gibson a run for its money after the upgrades? 🤘 I’ll walk you through the mods, play some riffs, and share my thoughts on whether this budget setup holds its own against the big G.

Having some fun here experimenting with a scale I rarely dive into—the Mixolydian scale! It’s always refreshing to break out of the usual patterns and explore new musical territories. This one’s got a bit of an upbeat, bluesy feel with that signature dominant 7th sound that the Mixolydian mode brings. 😎

I’m jamming on my Epiphone Les Paul Custom (Limited Edition) for this track, and it's delivering some killer tones. I love the versatility this guitar offers.

You all know about the Les Paul, right? Well, if not, here is a list of legendary players that used/use the Les Paul:

Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) – Iconic for his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

Slash (Guns N' Roses) – His Les Paul tone is legendary, particularly his use of custom Les Pauls.

Joe Perry (Aerosmith) – Frequently uses a Gibson Les Paul for his bluesy, hard rock sound.

Eric Clapton (Cream) – Early in his career, he played a Les Paul Standard.

Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) – Known for his “Greeny” Les Paul with an out-of-phase pickup mod.

Duane Allman (The Allman Brothers Band) – Used a 1957 Goldtop Les Paul for his slide guitar work.

Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy, Solo) – Played a Les Paul extensively in his blues and hard rock work.

Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) – Often uses his famous 1959 Les Paul, known as "Pearly Gates."

I am mostly an electric guitar player, but nothing beats a good play and sing on the acoustic. Actually, I am not the best at playing and singing, I overthink the rhythm sections and often get a little lost. That is a good thing as it gives me something to work on :)

Do you have a favourite acoustic guitar player? I do! It is Tommy Emmanuel :) he is incredible!! I was lucky enough to see him live back in October, it was one of the best live shows / guitarists I have ever and will ever see! I'd love to play like Tommy, who wouldn't!
