At first, I was scared because why would he call in the middle of the night? I prayed it wasn’t an emergency before I picked up. And, when I did, I was met with a weak and shaky voice, “Monsuroh, I am tired”, he said.

“I have tried everything possible, but it keeps wrecking. My catfish business was ruined by a heavy rainfall, my rent is due, I’m struggling to get a job, I have no one to call, yet my siblings keep asking me for money because I am the only guy among them. My uncles? They keep stressing how it is important that I get married early. I am very tired. My head is full”.

I listened carefully to him as he spoke. I didn’t want to interrupt him because he was crying as he was talking even though he tried to hide it from me. After a long silence, he said, “I think I want to end it all. I don’t think I can keep up with this life. This is not the life I signed up for. I thought graduating the top of my class would do anything, but it seems it’s even irrelevant now. What do I do now? What can I do? I tried learning a tech skill, but my laptop crashed, and I couldn’t even raise money to fix it…”

After this, he hung up. At this point, I wasn’t scared, rather, I thought of what I could do to make him know that he’s not alone. First, I sent him a text so he wouldn’t take any rash decisions before I finally decided on what to do.

I’m a voiceover artist, and most times, I record my scripts in the midnight because of the silence of the night. I could hear my voice and make it communicate the messages exactly how I want it to with little to no distractions, and this time, it is going to be a motivation for my friend. So, I picked my pen, and my journal, and I started writing.

Prior to this, I made sure I called back and spoke some soothing words to him so he could sleep. Then, I returned to my table to record the motivation with his name, Oluwadamilare.

I finished recording, and I sent it to him. When he woke up to my message, he called me, cried a lot, and thanked me because the message was impactful. Thank Goodness because my mission was accomplished!

This is 1:55am, and here’s the message I sent to my friend that reawakened him. For a minute, I’m grateful for the voice. Prior to now, I never knew my voice could do this magic, because I mostly used it for brands, but now, I found a new way to use it for the benefit of the people around me, especially my friends.

Thanks to the thoughts and the silence of the night.

I used to work as a content writer for brands, while building myself to become a world-class data analyst, but I unfortunately was living at a place where the power supply was at an all-time low. It was tiring having to think of the next available space to use for work, but for a friend who stayed in a not-too-distant community from mine, I could use his place.

On one of those days of working through the day to make a very good use of the power supply at my friend’s, and at night trying to drain my laptop’s battery before the next morning, I got so tired, and I badly needed a break. But for the little time I had, I couldn’t think of the best thing to do.

Taking a walk would mean that I was wasting time as the power could go off anytime, and deadlines were on my neck like a pile of wood. So, the only option I had was to listen to a song that would help lift my mood for about the three to five minutes that I had to spare.

So, I brought out my phone, got on Boomplay, searched up my favourite Afrobeats artist, Johnny Drille’s latest song, and played it on my laptop.

At first, I was connected to a headset thinking that was all I needed, but my body needed some form of exercise to boost my mood even if it was little, so, I disconnected from the headset but forgot to remove it from my head. Lol

I played the song on a loud volume, moved a bit to the rhythm, made myself laugh, and boom! I was back to myself. That was a well-spent two minutes.

I am so looking forward to that day when taking breaks when needed wouldn’t be a burden on me, and I could take the break for as much as I need because at the time, I’ll have all the things necessary to make my works easy, and my life and sanity wouldn’t even be affected one bit.

Trust me to not disappoint. I was actively practicing my videography and video editing skills at the time, so it was the most interesting task I could have gotten. And with the relationship I share with the celebrant, it was a task done wholeheartedly.

My intention was to write a story with the video I created for them, however, I couldn’t get a perfect shot to describe how they started, but I was lucky to capture how happy they were to finally be together after about some dating years. If you watch this to the end, you’ll see the last shot perfectly describing how happy they were to start the blissful marriage together.

In all, I can’t stop describing how beautiful my sister looked on her wedding day. She made a very beautiful and happy bride and to me, that was one thing I had looked forward to seeing; the happiness.

The weekend was a short, yet interesting one. I didn’t regret stepping out like I normally would. I had fun, I enjoyed myself, and I met people. It was indeed a really fun weekend for me.

When I engaged in the business of Nigerian desserts years ago, I was a university student joggling school and business together. It wasn’t easy being a creative director, public relations officer, customer care representative, sales rep, photo and videographer all together to ensure the success of the business, however, all the roles are important steps for your business survival.

Some people are lucky enough to start big because they have proper and easy access to funding, and adequate resources needed, however, many of us are not that lucky, so we wear the many caps of the various individuals that were supposed to be in the business with and diligently perform them until we attain success.

The video above is one of the many videos I shot to advertise my products. Being in a student environment, it was important to channel my adverts to make my products a need for them rather than wants. Even though it’s just desserts, it is important that I creatively create scenes where my products could be useful for them as students studying for their exams, or just relaxing, or hungry and not willing to cook.

Somehow, with the many videos, pictures, and stories that I created with the products, I created the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in the minds of the people such that at some point, I had customers outside students. The first bulk order of chinchin I made was for a bridal shower. The second one was for a family outing, and the third one was for friends get together. I remember all these because they were important periods in the business.

In summary, as a small business owner, the task ahead can be really daunting, especially because you have to wear the cap of many roles at a time. However, the early days of your business is an important learning time for you so that when your business expands to a stage where you can afford to employ people, you’ll know what to look for and how to measure the growth of your business.

The waterfall is in Ilesa town of Osun State Nigeria, and it has been in existence since 1140AD. It has a kind of complicating history with who discovered the waterfall first, but the popularr believe is that Akinla, the grand daughter of Oduduwa named the waterfall Olumirin.

The waterfall offers you a wonderful and relaxing moment with nature, and it is one of the most visited tourist centers in Nigeria. It has a total of seven levels. Tourists can hike up the levels and enjoy the beauty of nature.

I have heard about it since I was younger, and I knew I would be there someday, and the day finally arrived. We set off on that beautiful Saturday morning. It was seven of us, but on getting there, we met other tourists that were there to spend some time with nature and have some fun time while at it, so, the trip got more interesting than we envisaged.

The entry fee was #1000 only and there were traditional drummers to entertain you and give you a befitting welcome to the tourist center (sadly, I lost the picture of the drummers). Then, up we went to the first level with the help of a tour guide.

We climbed to the second and stopped at the third because the water seemed to gush from the fourth level down to the third, but no one was willing to go ahead and confirm because honestly, we were all tired.

For some reason, I couldn’t go under the water, but my hands and legs felt the coolness. The movement of the water on my skin was so soothing, so I can imagine how the refreshing spray of water on the skin of my friends made them forget they were adults for a moment and enjoyed the moment as much as they could.
