El año no va como planeaba y no he podido dibujar tanto, algo que me entristece un poco porque, como contaba, esto es un camino de resistencia y mucha práctica.

Today I want to share this small drawing I made. I had been without electricity for more than 18 hours and had finished all my tasks for the day, but I decided to take a moment to let myself flow, just random strokes and be as creative as possible. Honestly, it's not a very big or very pretty and precise drawing, but I really liked the final result. It's one of those rare times when the only tool I used were my fingers, and compared to others I've made this way before, this one is far superior.

Without a doubt, creating characters is a challenge, especially when we are starting out. I tried to give each character a unique personality that would differentiate them from the previous one. I was inspired by the first three Final Fantasy games, but I recommend taking a look at Final Fantasy VI, where we have different classes to choose from and each character will adopt a different appearance in each class. We can easily appreciate how clothing and accessories can influence our perception of the character. For the first character, I created an explorer. I used these colors for the clothing because I think they would identify him easily along with the hat. The second character is a red mage. Red mages are characters who can master both white and black magic. And finally, I wanted to create a blue aquatic monster. I liked it a lot, but it reminds me more of a blue mage or a character from Avatar.

Comencé la semana con el reto de hacer un personaje de 64x64 px. Escogí un hombre de nieve, y practicando varias técnicas, me gustó mucho el resultado. También quise hacer una pequeña animación de nieve, pero no me gustó mucho el resultado final.

I started the week with the challenge of making a 64x64 px character. I chose a snowman, and by practicing various techniques, I really liked the result. I also wanted to make a small snow animation, but I didn't like the final result very much.

Después le tocó el turno a otra criatura, esta vez era una gelatina. Ya había hecho gelatinas con anterioridad y estaba bien contento con el resultado. Para esta ocasión, quise complicarme un poco más haciendo la gelatina totalmente cúbica. Comencé trazando el contorno con un simple cubo, de ahí fui borrando bordes tratando de buscar transparencias, luces y sombras. Concluí con una cara sonriente que me gustó mucho. La verdad fue un reto convertir las formas rectas en una criatura kawaii.

It was really a challenge to turn straight shapes into a kawaii creature.

Following the daily planning, it was time to draw a moon. If I remember correctly, the dimensions were 64x64 px, quite large for a moon and a small background, in my opinion. To create the moon, I simply made an intersection of two circles, removing the excess. I really liked the final shape and adorned it with some craters. For the background, I made a cloudy sky using circles. I really liked the abstract shapes created by the clouds, perhaps this being my favorite drawing of the week.

Hello, friends at #HIVE and hello, #PixelArt lovers. If you've been paying attention to my posts, you know that about three weeks ago now I set out to learn how to do pixel art. I've discovered a whole world of shapes and colors that sometimes resists me, but I enjoy doing it. To follow a sort of guide, I set out to complete a daily drawing challenge. Little by little I have been showing you the results. Each part of the challenge is focused on an object or shape to practice certain skills.

What do you learn when drawing houses?

Well, unlike what we might think, drawing houses is a very complete and fun exercise. It allows us to try different styles, practice perspective, shading, straight shapes and different materials.

My Creative Process

My creative process starts, of course, with the simple idea of drawing a house. From there, I start sketching my design, thinking about the structure, the colors and the details I want to include. I look for references and try different color palettes until I find my favorite. I decided to work on a 128x128px canvas. During this process, I recorded a short video so I could share with you every step.

Throughout this challenge, I discovered my weaknesses. Although I feel quite comfortable working with perspective, what I find most difficult so far is the choice of color palettes. Working with pre-created and restricted color palettes helps a lot to avoid improvising on the fly, but sometimes it can work against you when you have an idea and need more colors. However, every day I feel a little more confident and I see my skills improving.

Definitely, what seems like a simple exercise can be the best opportunity to improve and learn.

Hola, amigos en #HIVE y hola, amantes del #PixelArt. Si han estado atentos a mis publicaciones, saben que hace ya alrededor de tres semanas me propuse aprender a hacer pixel art. He descubierto todo un mundo de formas y colores que a veces se me resiste, pero disfruto hacerlo. Para seguir una especie de guía, me propuse completar un reto de dibujo diario. Poco a poco les he ido mostrando los resultados. Cada parte del reto está enfocada en un objeto o forma para practicar ciertas habilidades.

¿Qué se Aprende al Dibujar Casas?

Pues, a diferencia de lo que podríamos creer, dibujar casas es un ejercicio bastante completo y divertido. Nos permite probar distintos estilos, practicar la perspectiva, el sombreado, las formas rectas y los distintos materiales.

Mi Proceso Creativo

Mi proceso creativo comienza, por supuesto, con la idea simple de dibujar una casa. A partir de ahí, empiezo a esbozar mi diseño, pensando en la estructura, los colores y los detalles que quiero incluir. Busco referencias y pruebo distintas paletas de colores hasta encontrar mi favorita. Decidí trabajar en un lienzo de 128x128px. Durante este proceso, grabé un pequeño video para poder compartir con ustedes cada paso.

A lo largo de este reto, he descubierto mis puntos débiles. Aunque me siento bastante cómodo trabajando con la perspectiva, lo que más se me dificulta hasta el momento es la elección de paletas de colores. Trabajar con paletas de colores precreadas y restringidas ayuda mucho para evitar estar improvisando sobre la marcha, pero a veces puede jugar en tu contra cuando tienes una idea y necesitas más colores. One of the difficulties I’ve encountered in Gimp are the selection tools, they are not very good and the automatic ones like the magic wand fail quite a bit, just like the color range selection.

The pen becomes the most attractive tool to obtain neat results, although it can be a bit cumbersome and slow. That’s why I’ve opted for the use of layer masks and the old and reliable brush.

For this tutorial I will use two images, a beautiful butterfly captured by @akukamaruzzaman, and a photo taken by me.

1. We import our image into Gimp and assign our color profile if necessary.

Borrando Fondos en Gimp: Un Tutorial Paso a Paso

Hola amigos en #HIVE y, por supuesto, mi querida comunidad de #LMAC, hoy vengo con algo distinto, un pequeño tutorial para aprender a borrar fondos en Gimp. Llevo ya un tiempo cambiando mis programas a software libre y, aunque no abandono del todo Photoshop, Gimp ha sido un sustituto al menos digno de mencionar, permitiéndome hacer ediciones rápidas y algunas fotomanipulaciones con muy buenos resultados.

Una de las dificultades que me he encontrado en Gimp son las herramientas de selección, no son muy buenas y las automáticas como la varita mágica falla bastante, al igual que la selección por gama de colores.

La pluma se vuelve la herramienta más atractiva para obtener resultados prolijos, aunque puede ser un poco engorrosa y lenta. Por eso me he decantado por el uso de máscaras de capas y el viejo y confiable pincel.

Para este tutorial usaré dos imágenes, una bella mariposa capturada por @akukamaruzzaman, y una foto tomada por mí.

Sin más, les dejo con los pasos:

1. Importamos nuestra imagen en Gimp y le asignamos nuestro perfil de color en caso de que sea necesario.

Con la tecla de X podremos invertir el color de negro a blanco, permitiéndonos con el negro borrar y con el blanco mostrar.
   
   Manteniendo presionadas las teclas Ctrl+Alt y la rueda del mouse podremos aumentar y disminuir el tamaño del pincel.

Mantener la tecla Shift nos permitirá trazar líneas rectas que acelerarán nuestro flujo de trabajo.

1. Todo lo que queda es paciencia y laboriosidad para ir con nuestro pincel ocultando todo lo que no queremos que se muestre.
