En esta semana 181, les quiero compartir una pequeña composición, cuyo motivo o creación fue a partir de un poema que hice un mes atrás, dedicado
a una mariposa. Suelo estar en el jardín del edificio donde vivo y al que yo llamo mi jardín; en él suelo observar las flores y demás plantas para fotografiarlas y deleitarme con sus colores. Una tarde muy tranquila, una mariposa me regaló un agradable momento al posarse en una flor y quedarse inmovil por un rato.

Logré fotografiarla y al subir a mi apartamento comencé a darle forma a este poema, luego a partir de lo que había escrito, traté de reflejar musicalmente, la bella imagen de la mariposa sobre la flor.

Es una corta composición que un poco refleja lo breve y hermoso del momento que yo disfrutaba. A continuación, el poema:

En esta ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes una canción muy reconocida, llamada "Ansiedad". Compuesta por el Venezolano Chelique Sarabia (José Enrique Sarabia). Este tema ha sido versionado cientos de veces y popularizado a nivel internacional por artistas como Nat King Cole, Sarita Montiel y más recientemente el Cantante español Miguel Rios. Por otro lado, a nivel nacional, el Tenor de Venezuela: Alfredo Sadel, le hizo una inmejorable versión.

Esta es una canción que fue escrita en 1955 (un año antes de mi nacimiento) y es una de esas canciones que me ha acompañado a través de los años. Incluso, en muchas ocasiones me he encontrado tarareándola, sin darme cuenta. Siento que tiene una buena melodía y que junto a su letra nostálgica, ha logrado convertirse en la favorita de mucha gente.

Esta versión que les traigo no la hice en su ritmo original (vals), fue adecuada a mi estilo con un ritmo de funk moderado, utilizado con mucha frecuencia en su repertorio por cantantes de la talla de Luis Miguel.

Today I’d like to share with you a very well-known song called “Ansiedad.” It was composed by the Venezuelan Chelique Sarabia (José Enrique Sarabia). This song has been covered hundreds of times and popularized internationally by artists such as Nat King Cole, Sarita Montiel, and more recently, the Spanish singer Miguel Ríos. On the other hand, at the national level, the Venezuelan tenor Alfredo Sadel recorded an unbeatable version of it.

This song was written in 1955 (a year before I was born) and is one of those songs that has stayed with me over the years. In fact, I’ve often found myself humming it without even realizing it. I think it has a great melody, and together with its nostalgic lyrics, it has become a favorite for many people.

The version I’m sharing with you isn’t in its original waltz rhythm; I adapted it to my style with a moderate funk beat, a style frequently used in the repertoire of singers like Luis Miguel.

Por aquí nuevamente para compartir una semana más de música y amistad. Esperando se encuentren en salud y realizando sus proyectos y sus planes.

Compartir en familia siempre ha sido, por lo menos en mi caso, algo esperado y muy necesario. Generalmente, tratamos de aprovechar todos los momentos que se nos presentan; ya sea una comida, un paseo, una salida o como en el caso de hoy donde, como siempre,la música formó parte de la celebración. Mi hijo mayor, Christian, vino a visitarnos y pasó el día con nosotros, y mientras me preparaba para grabar el tema de la semana, mi hijo se sentó frente al piano y comenzó a hacer una secuencia armónica y una melodía que me gustó mucho. Tomé mi flauta y acto seguido comencé a intercambiar melodías con él, a manera de una conversación.

Mi esposa, @esthersanchez, aprovechó el momento y grabó el tema. Lo lamentable es que mi hijo no aparece, pero como fue improvisado, no quisimos interpretarlo de nuevo y de allí el título que le coloqué.

Espero que este tema, producto de un bonito momento familiar, sea de su agrado y puedan disfrutarlo tanto como nosotros al hacerlo.

Hello, Hive Open Mic friends!

I’m back again to share another week of music and friendship. I hope you’re all doing well and making progress on your projects and plans.

Sharing time with family has always been, at least for me, something I look forward to and find very necessary. We generally try to make the most of every moment that comes our way—whether it’s a meal, a walk, an outing, or, as in today’s case, where, as always, music was part of the celebration. My oldest son, Christian, came to visit us and spent the day with us, and while I was getting ready to record this week’s song, my son sat down at the piano and started playing a harmonic progression and a melody that I really liked. I grabbed my flute and immediately began exchanging melodies with him, like a conversation.

My wife, @esthersanchez, seized the moment and recorded the track. The only downside is that my son isn’t in the recording, but since it was improvised, we didn’t want to perform it again—hence the title I gave it.

I hope you enjoy this track, the result of a lovely family moment, and that you enjoy it as much as we did while making it.

En esta ocasión cantaré para ustedes una versión de Roberto Carlos, de uno de sus grandes éxitos titulado: "No te apartes de mí".

Siento afinidad por muchas de las canciones de Roberto Carlos, tal vez por eso me resulta un cantautor para tomar en cuenta a la hora de elegir alguna canción romántica. El concierto acústico que grabó para MTV por los años 2000 contiene una buena muestra de su talento y del repertorio acumulado a través de los años, donde se le puede ver acompañado por una agrupación de primera línea, como es de costumbre.

Los éxitos que ha logrado a través de su extensa carrera, no hacen muy fácil la selección, ya que ha grabado también canciones de Caetano Veloso y ha logrado grandes versiones, compartiendo escenario con grandes artistas del Brasil, como también de la escena Internacional.

Compartir esta canción ha sido un reto para mí, porque estoy saliendo de una gripe y la voz no me responde igual. Me animaron los diferentes sonidos que he estado descubriendo en mi pedal Zoom, y al revisar el círculo armónico de "No te apartes de mí", la intención rítmica, sumada a la sonoridad, me cautivó y me provocó cantar, asumiendo el riesgo.

Creo que la emoción privó sobre el resultado, pero no disponía ya del tiempo para grabarla con calma y lograr un resultado más satisfactorio.

Espero igualmente que sea de su agrado mi aporte para esta semana.

This time, I’ll be singing a cover of one of Roberto Carlos’s greatest hits for you, titled “No te apartes de mí.”

I feel a connection to many of Roberto Carlos’s songs; perhaps that’s why I consider him a singer-songwriter worth considering when choosing a romantic song. The acoustic concert he recorded for MTV around the year 2000 offers a fine showcase of his talent and the repertoire he’s built up over the years, where he’s accompanied, as usual, by a top-notch band.

The hits he’s achieved throughout his extensive career don’t make the selection easy, since he’s also recorded songs by Caetano Veloso and produced great covers, sharing the stage with major artists from Brazil as well as the international scene.

Sharing this song has been a challenge for me, because I’m just getting over the flu and my voice isn’t responding the same way. I was inspired by the different sounds I’ve been discovering on my Zoom pedal, and when I reviewed the harmonic circle of “No te apartes de mí,” the rhythmic intent, combined with the sound, captivated me and made me want to sing, taking the risk.

I think emotion took precedence over the result, but I didn’t have the time to record it calmly and achieve a more satisfying result.

Acudiendo a nuestra cita semanal quiero compartir un tema original que lleva por título: "Caracas 10:30 p.m." inspirado en un ambiente citadino o urbano. Lo ejecuté utilizando mi guitarra electroacústica, pasándolo por un pedal Zoom Acoustic 404 sobre una base de batería con un ritmo moderado. Este proceso me sirvió para, de algún modo, describir instrumentalmente un ambiente lleno de contradicciones en el que el protagonista se debatía. Enojo, impaciencia y resiliencia. Visualizaba a un hombre de gran fortaleza, que no le permitía caer abatido ante el inesperado rechazo de su enamorada.

La guitarra juega con muy pocos acordes y una melodía entrecortada abruptamente con un ligero aire de blues emulando el dolor que en ese momento experimentaba, ante la desolación y la espera. Me situé mentalmente en una cafetería en el centro de la ciudad y en la que solían encontrarse generalmente.

Espero haber logrado mi propósito y que el resultado transmita el ambiente antes descrito.

Warm regards to everyone at Hive Open Mic and my family; I hope this week continues to be a healthy one for all of you.

As we gather for our weekly session, I’d like to share an original song titled “Caracas 10:30 p.m.” inspired by an urban atmosphere. I performed it using my electro-acoustic guitar, running it through a Zoom Acoustic 404 pedal over a drum track with a moderate rhythm. This process allowed me, in a way, to instrumentally describe an atmosphere full of contradictions in which the protagonist was struggling. Anger, impatience, and resilience. I visualized a man of great strength, who refused to let himself be defeated by the unexpected rejection of his beloved.

The guitar plays with very few chords and a melody abruptly cut off, with a slight bluesy feel, emulating the pain he was experiencing at that moment, in the face of desolation and waiting. I mentally placed myself in a café in the city center where they used to meet.

I hope I have achieved my goal and that the result conveys the atmosphere described above.

En esta oportunidad les quiero compartir un tema instrumental al que titulé "La inocencia en su corazón". Es una inspiración que tuve al reflexionar sobre diferentes actitudes de personas con las que, de una forma u otra, convivimos. Me refiero a familiares, amigos, vecinos, e incluso gente a la cual no conocemos personalmente, pero que por diferentes vías sabemos de sus comportamientos y acciones.

Una de las cosas que me tocan profundamente, es cuando alguien muestra su bondad sinceramente para con el prójimo.

En la parte más cercana, la experiencia con mis gemelos austistas es totalmente conmovedora para mi. Cuando ellos se ennoblecen con cualquier animal de la calle, quieren cuidarlo y que nadie lo trate mal. Les llaman incluso con dimunutivos, "gatitos y perritos", sin importar el tamaño que tengan, haciéndo de esto toda una declaración de la ternura.

Siempre que comparto estas experiencias suelo pensar que poseen un corazón realmente puro. Al reflexionar sobre la actitud de mis chicos, de siempre querer ayudar a la gente y al saber o ver a otras personas con actitudes parecidas, pienso genuinamente que hay inocencia en sus corazones, porque incluso pueden no medir, el peligro que se corre en ciertas circunstancias.

Soy una persona cuyo centro es la familia. No critico ni me gusta hacer juicios relacionados al accionar de las demás personas, a no ser que haya un ataque que perjudique a alguién. Aprecio demasiado la paz y mi estilo de vida y esto es lo que creo me ha permitido observar, hacer esta reflexión y llevar hasta ustedes esta melodía que he llamado, "La inocencia en su corazón".

On this occasion, I would like to share with you an instrumental piece that I titled “Innocence in Your Heart.” It was inspired by my reflections on the different attitudes of people with whom we interact in one way or another. I am referring to family members, friends, neighbors, and even people we do not know personally, but whose behaviors and actions we are aware of through various channels.

One of the things that touches me deeply is when someone sincerely shows kindness to others.

Closer to home, my experience with my autistic twins is truly moving for me. When they take pity on any stray animal, they want to take care of it and make sure no one treats it badly. They even call them by diminutive names, “kitties and puppies,” regardless of their size, making this a true declaration of tenderness.

Whenever I share these experiences, I tend to think that they have truly pure hearts. When I reflect on my children's attitude of always wanting to help people and when I see other people with similar attitudes, I genuinely think that there is innocence in their hearts, because they may not even realize the danger that exists in certain circumstances.

I am a person whose focus is family. I do not criticize or like to judge other people's actions, unless there is an attack that harms someone. I greatly appreciate peace and my lifestyle, and this is what I believe has allowed me to observe, reflect, and bring you this melody that I have called “Innocence in Your Heart.”

La canción que les comparto esta semana se titula «Amapola», del gran compositor dominicano Juan Luis Guerra. Hablar de este artista son palabras mayores: su talento es innegable y su formación en la prestigiosa escuela de Berklee le ha permitido dominar un amplio abanico de recursos. Gracias a ello, logra una fusión impecable y hermosa al integrar la rítmica del merengue dominicano con las sofisticadas sonoridades del jazz.

Talento nato más estudios adecuados es igual a calidad; sin embargo, ni la escuela más prestigiosa del mundo garantiza un resultado exitoso si no se tiene el don musical y el buen gusto que Juan Luis Guerra posee al componer. Los éxitos acumulados a través de su extensa carrera son innumerables; por citar solo algunos, recuerdo «Ojalá que llueva café», «Tú», «Ay, mujer», «Me enamoro de ella», «El costo de la vida», «Visa para un sueño» y «Burbujas de amor». Leyendo los Salmos, buscando inspiración, me reencontré con el Salmo 23, en cuya lectura encontramos hermosura y palabras llenas de esperanza. A través de la lectura Dios nos brinda consuelo, reposo, aliento y seguridad, el mensaje nos llena de gozo porque como Padre promete estar con nosotros a través de las dificultades y ser nuestro guía.

Inspirándome en la lectura tomé el teclado y a los pocos minutos la melodía empezó a fluir, hasta lograr esta pequeña composición que hoy les comparto con mucho cariño.

Reading the Psalms, seeking inspiration, I rediscovered Psalm 23, in which we find beauty and words full of hope. Through reading, God gives us comfort, rest, encouragement, and security. The message fills us with joy because, as our Father, He promises to be with us through difficulties and to be our guide.

Inspired by the reading, I picked up the keyboard, and within a few minutes, the melody began to flow, until I achieved this little composition that I share with you today with much affection.

Un gran saludo para mi estimada familia de Hive Music Festival, espero la estén pasando super bien. Por aquí de nuevo en esta semana 176, round 2. Siempre con total entusiasmo para participar y compartir en esta gran plataforma.

La canción que escogí para mi entrada pertenece al maestro Armando Manzanero, poseedor de un gran don compositivo, de quién se dice que compuso entre 300 o 400 canciones. La mayoría de los temas que grabó fueron exitosos. Por nombrar unos pocos cito: "Esta tarde vi llover", "Somos novios", "Adoro", "Cuando estoy contigo", entre otras.

Comenzó a muy temprana edad sus estudios musicales y esto unido, a su talento, lo llevaron a posicionarse rápidamente en el mundo musical y del espectáculo. Merecedor de un Grammy y, habiendo compartido su talento con otros grandes de la música, lamentablemente fallece el 17 de diciembre del 2020, días después de haber celebrado su cumpleaños número 85, por las secuelas del covid.

"Contigo Aprendí" es una canción muy conocida y muy versionada por diferentes cantantes. Mientras estuve trabajando en uno de los Hoteles "Venetur" en la ciudad de Cumaná, "Contigo aprendí" era uno de los temas más solicitado y ante el cual la gente respondía con más efusividad y emoción, y hoy quise traerlo a la plataforma y compartirlo en la comunidad.

A big hello to my beloved Hive Music Festival family. I hope you are all doing great. Here I am again for week 176, round 2. I am always excited to participate and share on this great platform.

The song I chose for my entry belongs to the maestro Armando Manzanero, a man with a great gift for composition, who is said to have composed between 300 and 400 songs. Most of the songs he recorded were hits. To name a few, I would mention: “Esta tarde vi llover” (This Afternoon I Saw the Rain), “Somos novios” (We Are Lovers), ‘Adoro’ (I Adore), “Cuando estoy contigo” (When I Am With You), among others.

He began his musical studies at a very early age and this, combined with his talent, led him to quickly establish himself in the world of music and entertainment. A Grammy winner who shared his talent with other music greats, he sadly passed away on December 17, 2020, days after celebrating his 85th birthday, due to complications from COVID-19.

“Contigo Aprendí” is a well-known song that has been covered by many different singers. While I was working at one of the Venetur hotels in the city of Cumaná, “Contigo Aprendí” was one of the most requested songs, and the one to which people responded most effusively and emotionally. Today, I wanted to bring it to the platform and share it with the community.

Con la temática de esta semana "Máscara" recordé una canción del tecladista y compositor: León Rusell, lanzado en el año 1972 (Grabado también por los Carpenters y George Benson, entre otros). La versión más popular fue la de Benson realizada en el año 1976, manteniéndose bastante tiempo en las listas de éxitos, e incluso obteniendo un grammy al año siguiente. La mezcla de pop, soul y jazz, causó sensación y una mayor proyección en la carrera de este gran músico.

La letra habla de una pareja atrapada en una relación en donde no logran encontrar una salida y por ello, se encuentran atrapados en ese juego interminable, en este disfráz.

Me pareció bien apropiada la letra por la temática planteada, pensé en grabarla con la guitarra y la flauta, pero no logré un resultado satisfactorio y tuve que renunciar al uso de la guitarra como pista de acompañamiento. Al gustarme el tema por su melodía y rara belleza decidí grabarla solo con la flauta.

Hello, dear friends of Hive Open Mic! Warm greetings, I hope you are all doing well.

This week's theme, “Mask,” reminded me of a song by keyboardist and composer Leon Russell, released in 1972 (also recorded by the Carpenters and George Benson, among others). The most popular version was Benson's 1976 recording, which stayed on the charts for quite some time and even won a Grammy the following year. The mix of pop, soul, and jazz caused a sensation and gave this great musician's career greater visibility.

The lyrics talk about a couple trapped in a relationship where they can't find a way out and therefore find themselves caught in this endless game, in this disguise.

I thought the lyrics were very appropriate for the theme, and I thought about recording it with the guitar and flute, but I didn't get a satisfactory result and had to give up using the guitar as an accompaniment track. I liked the song for its melody and rare beauty, so I decided to record it with just the flute.

Logró un éxito muy grande cuando grabó la canción Madrigal del compositor puertorriqueño, Felipe Rosario Goyco, conocido en el ámbito artístico como Don Felo, de quién se dice que compuso más de 200 canciones.

La carrera artística de Danny Rivera está llena de grandes logros, con sus 80 años cumplidos ha grabado alrededor de 150 discos, en diferentes formatos, además de innumerables giras, conciertos y participaciones con otros artistas. Ha realizado una intensa labor social en pro de la paz y la libertad y sus canciones abarcan diferentes géneros musicales.

Aunque no soy bolerista, quise compartir con ustedes esta canción tan icónica de su repertorio.

La melodía del Morning Has Broken, su letra y el especial sonido del piano hacen de esta canción algo realmente especial. Se cuenta que cuando Cat estaba en pleno proceso de grabación, en el estudio de al lado estaba el señor Rick Wakeman, un gran pianista y tecladista de estudio. Como la canción era muy corta se le pidió que le agregara algo con el piano, el resultado fue ese bello arreglo que quedó como introducción y llevo el tema a otro nivel. No está de más decir que dicho tecladista, tiempo después, formó parte del grupo "Yes" famoso y admirado en el ámbito del rock progresivo, además de una intensa carrera solista.

Desde que conocí este tema quedé enamorado de su belleza y de cómo la letra habla de la primera luz, de la primera mañana, aquella que se siente como un faro proyector que alcanza cada día al planeta. Por ello consideré que era el tema idóneo para compartir con ustedes. Lo versioné con la flauta porque no confío en mi inglés.

For this week's theme, “Spotlight,” I want to share with you a beautiful song performed by Cat Stevens, titled “Morning Has Broken.” This song is a hymn of praise to creation. It has beautiful verses such as, “Mine is the sunlight,” “mine is the morning,” “born of the one light with which Eden was created.” “Praise with joy, praise each morning, God's recreation of the new day.”

The melody of Morning Has Broken, its lyrics, and the special sound of the piano make this song truly special. It is said that when Cat was in the middle of recording, Mr. Rick Wakeman, a great pianist and studio keyboardist, was in the studio next door. As the song was very short, he was asked to add something on the piano, and the result was that beautiful arrangement that became the introduction and took the song to another level. I would like to add that this keyboardist later became part of the famous and admired progressive rock band Yes, in addition to having an intense solo career.

Ever since I first heard this song, I fell in love with its beauty and how the lyrics speak of the first light, the first morning, which feels like a beacon shining on the planet every day. Una anécdota de esta canción es que, en una oportunidad luego de cantar este tema en un festival, fue abordado por un militar quien le dijo al oído: "... Si vuelves a cantar, te pegaré un tiro en la cabeza". Demás está decir que la siguió cantando hasta el día de hoy.

"Solo Le Pido A Dios", se ha convertido en un auténtico himno y ha sido grabado en innumerables idiomas. Siento que la letra no pierde vigencia, y es una lúcida reflexión hacia el ser humano. Espero que les guste esta canción, y que disfruten mi versión.

The song I've chosen for this presentation is by Argentine singer-songwriter León Gieco, an artist who takes a sincere and direct stance on social issues in his country and around the world.

An anecdote about this song is that, on one occasion after singing it at a festival, he was approached by a soldier who whispered in his ear: “... If you sing that again, I'll shoot you in the head.” Needless to say, he has continued singing it to this day.

“Solo Le Pido A Dios” has become a true anthem and has been recorded in countless languages. I feel that the lyrics are still relevant today and offer a lucid reflection on the human condition. I hope you like this song and enjoy my version.

En esta ocasión, he decidido traer al escenario una pieza cargada de sentimiento y raíces latinoamericanas. La canción que quiero compartirles pertenece a un artista que es un auténtico estandarte de la música colombiana contemporánea: Juan Fernando Fonseca Carrera, mundialmente conocido por su nombre artístico, Fonseca.

Éxitos rotundos como "Arroyito", la vibrante "Eres Mi Sueño" y la emotiva "Desde Que No Estás", son solo una pequeña muestra de su enorme capacidad para componer melodías que se quedan grabadas en la memoria.

El tema que he seleccionado para mi presentación de hoy se titula "Te Respiro (Si Te Acuerdas de Mí)". Es una obra que destaca por su letra nostálgica y profundamente poética. Nos habla de esos recuerdos que se quedan suspendidos en el tiempo y de la esperanza de ser recordados por aquel ser especial. Interpretarla ha sido un reto gratificante, pues requiere conectar con esa sensibilidad tan particular que Fonseca imprime en cada nota.

Espero sinceramente que mi versión de este tema sea de su total agrado y que logre transmitirles esa paz y nostalgia que la canción evoca.
