Hay días que se quedan contigo para siempre. No importa cuánto tiempo pase, hay momentos que regresan tan claros como si hubieran ocurrido ayer. Hoy, siendo jueves, mi mente volvió a uno en particular: el entierro de una madre. No era la mía, pero para muchos de nosotros, así se sentía.

Fue el funeral de la madre de un compañero de clase. Solíamos llamarla “Mama”. No porque ella lo pidiera, sino porque así se comportaba, como una madre para todos, no solo para su propio hijo. Cuando nos enteramos de que había fallecido, todos nos quedamos en silencio. Los grupos de chat, las llamadas, la conversación en la clase, todo se detuvo por un momento. Y no solo dejaba comida y se iba. Preguntaba cómo estábamos, nos animaba a estudiar, oraba por nosotros. Nos hacía sentir vistos. Respetados. Queridos.

Por eso su entierro no fue un evento cualquiera. Fue algo muy personal. Mientras el servicio avanzaba, miré a mi alrededor y vi a hombres hechos y derechos, tipos duros, limpiándose las lágrimas. Fue un momento muy emotivo. Porque no solo su hijo había perdido a una madre. Todos la habíamos perdido.

Cuando el pastor dijo que había vivido una vida de virtud, asentí con la cabeza. Mama era ese tipo de mujer que no necesitaba dar sermones para demostrar amor. Lo hacía con sus actos. Con su olla de estofado. Con sus palabras amables. Con su sonrisa.

Puede que ya no esté, pero su legado es algo que nunca voy a olvidar. Hay personas que te hacen sentir pequeño cuando entran en una habitación. Mama te hacía sentir completo. Alimentado. Importante. Como si realmente valieras.
