After the last Olympic Games in Paris 2024, a certain French air is running swarming around the world, that is why this week I wanted to fly musically taking advantage of those winds - perhaps fleeting, I don't know - using the art of Yann Tiersen and his iconic piece "La valse d'Amélie".

  From the accordion to the piano. The version I am performing today is an adaptation for piano, a version of the musical theme of the film Amelié, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Maestro Tiersen's works are characterized by having rich combinations of instruments and genres, and although the original version of "La valse d'Amélie" has an accordion and other instruments, I personally consider the version for solo piano to be much more expressive and desirable.

  I really like this waltz. I love the key in which it is composed, the changes in time signatures and its simplicity and melodic clarity; I think that is why it is as interesting as it is enjoyable.

  For this #19 edition I have prepared a piece that is undoubtedly part of the collective imagination worldwide; it is Passacaglia, a work composed by Johan Halvorsen (1864-1935), a Norwegian composer, conductor and violinist.

  A curious fact is that the authorship of this work is often associated with another surname, and it is common to find the reference Handel-Halvorsen immediately after the title. This is because Halvorsen composed this iconic piece based on a theme by the famous German composer Georg Friedrich Handel.

  But what is a Passacaglia? The Passacaglia is a musical form that is characterized by developing continuous variations on an ostinato or repetitive bass; this form of composition, widespread during the Baroque, originates in Spain in the 16th century. XVII as a street dance with a cyclical structure, originally called Pasacalle.

  It is worth noting that a good number of famous composers throughout musical history have used the Passacaglia as a compositional form. Among them, Jean-Baptiste Lully, J.S. Bach, Brahms, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, among others, stand out.

  Happy to be able to share my passion once again, in this week 18 of the Vibes Web3 Music Competition, I perform "He's a Pirate", a piece that is part of the soundtrack of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean"; a composition by Klaus Badelt.

  Before telling you a little more about how it was to carry out this adventure, I share with you a brief synopsis and a curious fact that you cannot miss.

  Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in Latin America) is an adventure film released in 2003, the first installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, directly inspired by the mechanical attraction Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland theme parks. Directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the story tells of the adventures of blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and eccentric pirate captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in order to rescue Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), daughter of the governor of Port Royal, who has been kidnapped by the cursed crew of the pirate ship Black Pearl, captained by Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush).

This film was the first Walt Disney Pictures film to be rated PG-13 (Not recommended for under 13s), due to the violent action and adventure scenes by the Motion Picture Association of America.

  Making the thumbnail for this post was a lot of fun. Artificial intelligence opens up a world of possibilities that can be very funny, and that's what I discovered when making the cover for this video. Since I wanted to do something thematic, I started playing around with AI a bit to see if I could make this fantasy of being a pirate come true. The result was a pirate beard to which I added some stickers that helped me create the illusion. The result left me very happy and satisfied. -It wouldn't have been possible without Canva hahaha.

  I also want to tell you that I was initially going to record with a piano sound, but after trying out some new plugins that I was able to download, I managed to create a four-layer sound that I really liked. In short, the sound features piano, brass, strings, and percussion.

  Feliz de poder compartir mi pasión una vez más, en esta semana 18 del Vibes Web3 Music Competition, interpreto "He's a Pirate", una pieza que forma parte de la banda sonora del la película "Piratas del Caribe"; una composición de Klaus Badelt.

  Antes de contarte un poco más de cómo fue llevar a cabo esta aventura, te comparto una breve sinopsis y un dato curiosos que no te puedes perder.

  Piratas del Caribe: La maldición del Perla Negra en Hispanoamérica) es una película de aventuras estrenada en 2003, primera entrega de Piratas del Caribe, inspirada directamente por la atracción mecánica Pirates of the Caribbean de los parques temáticos Disneyland. Dirigida por Gore Verbinski y producida por Jerry Bruckheimer, la historia cuenta las aventuras que viven el herrero Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) y el excéntrico capitán pirata Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) para rescatar a Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), hija del gobernador de Port Royal, que ha sido secuestrada por la tripulación maldita del barco pirata Perla Negra, capitaneado por Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush).

Esta película fue el primer filme de Walt Disney Pictures en clasificarse como PG-13 (No recomendada a menores de 13 años), debido a las escenas de acción y aventura violentas por parte de la Asociación Cinematográfica de Estados Unidos.

  Hacer la miniatura para esta publicación resultó muy divertido. La inteligencia artificial abre un mundo de posibilidades que pueden llegar a ser muy graciosas, y eso fue lo que descubrí al hacer la portada para este video. Como quería hacer algo temático me puse a jugar un poco con la IA para ver si podía hacer realidad esta fantasía de ser un pirata. El resultado fue una barba pirata a la que le agregué algunos stickers que me ayudaron a crear la ilusión. El resultado me dejó muy feliz y satisfecho. -No hubiera sido posible sin Canva jajaja.

  También quiero contarles que inicialmente iba a grabar con un sonido de piano, pero después de probar unos plugins nuevos que pude descargar, logré crear un sonido de cuatro capas que me gustó un montón. En definitiva, el sonido cuenta con piano, metales, cuerdas y percusión.

  Roots week. In my case, going back to the roots means going back to Venezuelan music, specifically to the Venezuelan piano. That's why, for this release, I wanted to make a piano arrangement of the iconic song "Las bellas noches de Maiquetía", a waltz composed by Pedro Arcila Ponte.

  The arrangement I made for this edition follows an AB form. I used a conventional harmony with a Venezuelan waltz accompaniment for the left hand. I was inspired by the arrangements of maestro Evencio Castellanos.

  This waltz stands out not only for its melodic beauty, but also for its ability to evoke the essence and atmosphere of the coastal region of Maiquetía, a town near Caracas, known for its international airport and its beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. The waltz captures this calm and evocative atmosphere, inviting the listener to imagine themselves strolling along its beaches under the moonlight.

This beautiful waltz also tells, through its verses, a beautiful story:

The beautiful nights of Maiquetia
will be engraved in my memory
it will be a consolation to my sadness
that there in Caracas will be forgotten.

Your beautiful eyes that looked at me
being so beautiful I will forget,
their glances were already ungrateful
that I would not even like to remember.

Eyes of heaven full of moon,
eyes of heaven full of sun,
whose glances have already been erased
from the memories of the heart.

Your clear eyes no longer look at me

  Semana de raíces. En mi caso, volver a las raíces es volver a la música venezolana, específicamente al piano venezolano. Por eso, para esta entrega he querido hacer un arreglo para piano del icónico tema "Las bellas noches de Maiquetía", un vals compuesto por Pedro Arcila Ponte.

  El arreglo que he hecho para esta edición sigue una forma AB. He empleado una armonía convencional con un acompañamiento propio del vals venezolano para la mano izquierda. Me inspiré en los arreglos del maestro Evencio Castellanos.

  Este vals destaca no sólo por su belleza melódica, sino también por su capacidad de evocar la esencia y la atmósfera de la región costera de Maiquetía, un pueblo cercano a Caracas, conocido por su aeropuerto internacional y sus hermosas vistas al mar caribe. El vals capta esta atmósfera tranquila y evocadora, invitando al oyente a imaginarse paseando por sus playas bajo la luz de la luna.

Este hermoso vals también cuenta, a través de sus versos, una hermosa historia:

Las bellas noches de Maiquetia
en mi memoria se grabarán
será un consuelo a mis tristezas
que allá en Caracas se olvidarán.

Tus bellos ojos que me miraron
siendo tan bellos he de olvidar,
fueron ingratas ya sus miradas
que no quisiera ni recordar.

Ojos de cielo plenos de luna,
ojos de cielo plenos de sol,
cuyas miradas ya se han borrado

  Experimentar con los acordes sencillos pero evocadores de Satie y adornarlos con los sutiles detalles y texturas del LoFi me ha permitido explorar nuevas dimensiones de expresión musical, conectando con mis propias emociones y transmitiendo una sensación de serenidad a quienes escuchan mi música

  Hello all music lovers! Today I want to start this series titled “Musical Reading”, in which I will share one or two musical works for keyboard (piano, organ or harpsichord) weekly in order to exercise myself and continue perfecting the art of sight reading. I am going to start with a short work by the German composer J. S Bach, it is the Four-Part Chorale No. 303, entitled “Herr Christ, der ein'ge Gott'ssohn”.

  I hope you will join me in this exciting journey that I don't know where it will take us, I just hope that we discover and enjoy a lot of music together.

  But before talking a little more about the work, I want to tell you why I want to start this series. Last year was a difficult year personally, I suffered inflammation of the sciatic nerve that affected me greatly, I could not stand for long nor could I sit for more than a few minutes... This affected my relationship with my musical instrument, not only my practices decreased considerably, so did my spirit and my strength. It took about 10 months of fighting until the pain finally went away.

  I begin this series as an exercise in personal motivation and at the same time as a celebration for being able to sit for several hours playing the piano without having to suffer any discomfort or pain. For this I thank God.

  Now, returning to the piece that I am performing today, I want to talk a little about this work and the Chorales in general. The structure of this composition is like an intricate tapestry of intertwined voices. Bach employs his unique ability to weave melodic lines that intertwine and complement each other, creating a dense and exciting musical texture. Each of the four parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) has its own personality, but together they form a coherent and expressive whole.

  The chorale itself, often based on hymns or religious songs, carries with it a deep meaning. Bach's music, in general, had a strong connection with his Lutheran faith, and this piece is no exception. The richness of the harmony and the evolution of the melodic lines can be interpreted as an expression of the composer's spirituality.

  Después de un tiempo ausente, vuelvo ahora explorando la profundidad musical del Preludio Op. 28, No. 4 de Chopin. Si hay una obra que captura la esencia melancólica de Frédéric Chopin, indudablemente es este pequeño preludio, un tesoro musical que forma parte de su famoso conjunto de preludios, y que nos transporta a un mundo de emotividad y complejidad interpretativa, revelando la maestría del compositor polaco. Me atrevo a interpretar esta obra sabiéndome condenado a solo conseguir una aproximación torpe y muy lejana, aun así lo intentaré.

  Publicado por primera vez en 1839, este preludio es parte integral de los 24 preludios que Chopin escribió durante su estancia en Valldemossa, Mallorca. Cada preludio en esta colección aborda una tonalidad diferente, siguiendo el círculo de quintas. El Op. 28, No. 4 está en mi menor, y su atmósfera melódica y expresiva ha dejado una marca perdurable en la música de todos los tiempos. Por ejemplo, Antonio Carlos Jobim se inspiraría en esta obra para componer "Insensatez", una canción que transcurre con una cálida y relajante progresión de acordes al ritmo de la Bossa-Nova.

  Desde los primeros compases, el Preludio Op. 28, No. 4 cautiva con su melancolía y misterio. La melodía refleja el estado anímico de Chopin durante aquel periodo. La pieza es un diálogo apasionado entre la melancolía y la esperanza, destacando la capacidad única de Chopin para transmitir emociones a través de las teclas.

  Algunos creen que que este preludio expresa la agonía que Chopin sufría por causa de sus problemas respiratorios.

  El Preludio Op. 28, No. 4 continúa siendo interpretado por pianistas de todo el mundo, su poderosa simplicidad y complejidad emocional no han perdido su fascinación. Desde su creación hasta nuestros días, esta obra maestra musical sigue siendo un recordatorio perdurable del genio de Chopin y su capacidad para comunicar lo inefable a través de la música.

  Continúa la travesía explorando las composiciones de Yann Tiersen. Para esta semana traigo una pieza que forma parte de la banda sonora de la película Tabarly, un tema hermoso titulado ATLANTIQUE NORD.

  Antes de expresar lo que siento al interpretar esta pieza, quiero hablarles sobre Tabarly y Alantique Nord. Atravesar las aguas cinematográficas de 'Tabarly' es sumergirse en un viaje íntimo y nostálgico a través de la vida del legendario navegante francés, Eric Tabarly. La película, dirigida por Pierre Marcel, cautiva no solo por la fascinante historia de Tabarly, sino también por la emotiva banda sonora que le da vida. Entre las composiciones que tejen la narrativa, destaca la melódica y evocadora pieza 'Atlantique Nord' de mi estimado compositor, Yann Tiersen.

  Cada acorde de esta obra maestra musical parece reflejar las vastas extensiones del océano Atlántico, resaltando la conexión profunda entre el navegante y el mar. La sinergia entre la cinematografía y la música crea una experiencia envolvente, donde las emociones fluyen al ritmo de las olas, dejando una impresión duradera en el espectador, tan eterna como el horizonte marino que Tabarly desafió siempre con valentía.

  Ahora si, escribiré sobre lo que me produce esta pieza. Al tocar "Atlantique Nord" de Yann Tiersen, experimento una amalgama de emociones que me transporta a un paisaje sonoro único. Cada nota es como una ola que me envuelve, llevándome a las profundidades de un océano emocional. La melancolía y la esperanza se entrelazan en cada acorde, creando una sensación de vulnerabilidad y belleza. Es como si las teclas del piano fueran ventanas hacia un horizonte vasto y misterioso. Siento la brisa del Atlántico acariciando mi piel mientras me sumerjo en la complejidad de la composición. La música de Tiersen, y en particular "Atlantique Nord", logra resonar en lo más profundo de mi ser, despertando una conexión única con la esencia misma de la expresión artística.

  Si tuviera que resumir en dos palabras lo que esta obra me hace sentir, diría -profunda y hermosa-.

  Después de la interrupción de la semana pasada, retomo la exploración de la obra de Yann Tiersen. En esta entrega haré sonar con mis dedos "Childhood II", te contaré lo que me ha hecho sentir esta Nouvelle chanson y haré un breve análisis musical de la obra.

  Childhood II, grabada en el año 2002, fue concebida como música para cine. Esta obra forma parte de la banda sonora de "Goodbye Lenin!", una comedia dramática dirigida por Wolfgang Becker que se desarrolla en el contexto de la caída del muro de Berlín (1989).

  La semana pasada, un viaje imprevisto evitó que cumpliera con mi ritmo de publicación semanal explorando la obra de Yann Tiersen. En este post quiero contarte por qué decidí publicar una obra de mi autoría y qué me inspiró a componerla.

  La semana pasada recibimos buenas noticias aquí en casa, algo que estábamos esperando desde hace tiempo por fin iba a suceder. Era necesario que viajáramos a la capital para poner todo en marcha. Después de muchas diligencias finalmente pudimos lograr el objetivo, dejar andando el asunto. Pero allí no terminó nuestro viaje, ya desocupados, tuvimos oportunidad de reencontrarnos con parte de la familia; con mi hermano y mis sobrinos.

Nunca vimos la misma cámara (jajaja) y las fotos en las que salgo sin hacer morisquetas, desaparecieron...

  Después de varios años sin vernos, el encuentro resultó muy emotivo. Fue allí que reflexioné y me di cuenta de lo importante que es mantener lazos estrechos con la familia. La sangre que nos une es un vínculo sagrado que no podemos ignorar. A pesar de las diferencias y las distancias, los lazos familiares nos brindan un apoyo incondicional y una conexión emocional única.

  Es fácil dejarse llevar por las ocupaciones y las responsabilidades diarias. A veces, nos olvidamos de aquellos que siempre estuvieron ahí para nosotros, quienes nos conocen de verdad y nos aceptan tal como somos. Pero cuando finalmente nos volvemos a reunir, nos damos cuenta de lo valiosa que es esa conexión y de cuanto la hemos extrañado.

  Todas las emociones producto de ese reencuentro me inspiraron a componer la pieza que hoy interpreto en el piano y que quise titular de la misma manera Reencuentro.

Aquí con mis sobrinos; cada quién escoge mirar la cámara que quiere (jejeje).

  Hace un par de días llegó a mis manos otra partitura del maestro Yann Tiersen, Le Matin, una pieza que me ha parecido hermosa e hipnótica. Hoy no sólo quiero tocarla para ti, también quiero compartirte mi análisis de la obra y lo que esta me ha hecho sentir al interpretarla.

  "Le Matin" ha sido compuesta en la tonalidad de Mi bemol mayor y fluye a través de una textura de melodía acompañada. El acompañamiento es un ostinato hipnótico con el ritmo distintivo de una sincopa que acompaña la melodía de principio a fin. Por su parte, el motivo melódico es presentado de forma simple en el registro central desde comienzo de la pieza. A lo largo de la obra el motivo será enriquecido con variaciones rítmicas y de altura, entre otras.

  Mi aventura explorando la obra de Yann Tiersen, continúa. En este post interpreto "La dispute" y quiero contarte mis impresiones sobre esta icónica pieza del maestro Tiersen, los sonidos que empleé para dar vida a esta pieza con un toque particular y las cosas que me sucedieron mientras hacía esta grabación.

  "La dispute"; auténtico sonido francés. Esta pieza, que forma parte de la banda sonora de la película "Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain",es interpretada, en su versión original, con un solo de acordeón al inicio (Tiersen también la comenzaba con una melódica), a mi parecer, melancólico y romántico, evocando y capturando, con sus giros melódico y armónicos, la nostalgia al mejor estilo francés.

  Esta obra te atrapa. El maestro logra generar una expectativa ya desde los primeros compases pues la armonía arranca en la tónica (Mi bemol) y luego introduce la dominante secundaria del sexto grado (V7/vi) en su segunda inversión, lo que sugiere que el siguiente acorde será Do menor (vi), pero no, caprichosamente vuelve al acorde de Mi bemol (I). Este juego inicial ya le anticipa al oyente que la pieza se tornará interesante en los compases siguientes, atrapándolo irremediablemente.

  "La dispute" con mi toque personal. En esta entrega he querido no sólo me he preocupado por aportar algo desde lo interpretativo, también he querido experimentar con el sonido. En es búsqueda quise incorporar sonidos LoFi y no limitarme sólo al timbre de un piano. Para lograr esto dividí el teclado en dos secciones, configurando la parte izquierda con un piano LoFi de la marca Quite Music, yla derecha con un synth de la casa Arturia. Finalmente agregué, en posproducción, sonidos grabados en la calle de algún lugar y un audio de fuego ardiendo. Todo esto me permitió aportar variedad tímbrica, logrando algo distinto sin traicionar, según mi parecer, el espíritu de la obra.

  Justo cuando estaba en la mitad de la grabación, mi celular decidió quedarse sin memoria. Cuando produzco mis vídeo grabopor separa audio y vídeo, el primero lo registro en la DAW y el segundo en mi celular para luego sincronizarlos. Mientras grababa, escuché el sonidito que hace mi celular cuando para de grabar vídeo, y entonces lo supe !Oh, no... catástrofe; se quedó sin memoria! A pesar de esto seguí adelante con la grabación...

  Aunque al principio me sentí un poco frustrado por no haber podido grabar todo el video de manera continua, al final me di cuenta de que esto también formaba parte de la aventura. Las cosas no siempre salen como las planeamos, pero lo importante es adaptarnos y encontrar soluciones creativas.

  Así fue como mi vídeo interpretando "La dispute" de Yann Tiersen, terminó siendo una mezcla del vídeo de mi propia interpretación y de un fragmento de video de Pixabay. Aunque no es perfecto, quedé contento con el resulta y a la vez queda como testimonio de mi determinación para superar los obstáculo.

  My adventure exploring the work of Yann Tiersen continues. In this post I perform "La dispute" and I want to tell you my impressions about this iconic piece by maestro Tiersen, the sounds I used to give life to this piece with a particular touch and the things that happened to me while making this recording.

  "La dispute"; authentic French sound. This piece, which is part of the soundtrack of the film "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain", is performed, in its original version, with an accordion solo at the beginning (Tiersen also began it with a melodica), to my seem, melancholic and romantic, evoking and capturing, with its melodic and harmonic turns, nostalgia in the best French style.

The teacher manages to generate an expectation from the first bars because the harmony starts in the tonic (E flat) and then introduces the secondary dominant of the sixth degree (V7/vi) in its second inversion, which suggests that the next chord will be C minor (vi), but no, it capriciously returns to the chord of E flat (I). This initial game already anticipates to the listener that the piece will become interesting in the following bars, trapping him irremediably.

  "La dispute" with my personal touch. In this installment I wanted not only to worry about contributing something from an interpretive point of view, I also wanted to experiment with sound. In this search I wanted to incorporate LoFi sounds and not limit myself only to the timbre of a piano. To achieve this I divided the keyboard into two sections, configuring the left part with a LoFi piano from the brand Quite Music, and the right part with a synth from the house Arturia. Finally I added, in post-production, sounds recorded on the street somewhere and an audio of a fire burning. All this allowed me to provide timbral variety, achieving something different without betraying, in my opinion, the spirit of the work.

  Just when I was halfway through recording, my phone decided to run out of memory. When I produce my videos, I record audio and video separately, the first is recorded in the DAW and the second is recorded on my cell phone and then synchronized. While I was recording, I heard the little sound that my cell phone makes when it stops recording video, and then I knew! Oh, no... catastrophe; He ran out of memory! Despite this I continued with the recording...

  Although at first I was a little frustrated that I couldn't record the entire video continuously, in the end I realized that this was also part of the adventure. Things don't always go as planned, but the important thing is to adapt and find creative solutions.

  This is how my video performing "La dispute" by Yann Tiersen ended up being a mix of the video of my own performance and a video fragment from Pixabay. Although it is not perfect, I was happy with the result and at the same time it remains a testimony of my determination to overcome the obstacles.
