Greetings to the vibrant Hive community!

I'm back for Week 35 of Vibes, and I couldn’t be more excited — this week is all about Electronic Dance Music! And for this sonic journey, I chose “Voyager” by the legendary Daft Punk. A track that not only bears the name but also feels like a true audio odyssey, perfect for this edition.

🎚️ Production and focus

I built this cover in my home studio using Pro Tools and my Arturia MK2 controller, which I used to map out various sounds and effects. The track combines MIDI instruments with live recordings to strike a balance between digital precision and analog soul.

The drums start off with a vintage kit in Addictive Drums to evoke that classic groove. Then, as the track lifts off, a beat inspired by the LinnDrum kicks in — that crisp 80s-style punch gives it the perfect EDM energy.

The guitar you hear in this version of "Voyager" comes from Ample Guitar, a virtual instrument that realistically emulates the sound of an electric guitar. While it’s not the star of the track, its role is essential—it adds an organic texture at the beginning and stays panned to the right, in conversation with a synth on the left. This interplay creates a subtle contrast between analog and digital, helping to widen the stereo field without breaking the electronic aesthetic of the piece.

🌌 Synths and soundscapes

I used synthesizers from the Arturia suite, mainly the Juno and Jupiter, to create atmospheric layers that fill the spectrum. On the left, there's a processed guitar line, and on the right, a synthetic counterpart — a stereo dialogue that adds width and depth.

The main lead is an arpeggiated Juno line that pays direct homage to Daft Punk’s Discovery era. I wanted it to feel like a nod to “Aerodynamic”, keeping that futuristic vibe and rhythmic pulse going.

🎸 Real bass, human energy

While synth bass rules in EDM, I chose to record a live electric bass and shape it with effects to get a Moog-like tone. This way, I keep that human touch without losing punch. It's a mix of organic warmth and electronic drive.

🧠 Total control via Arturia

Here’s how I mapped the pads on the Arturia MK2:

Bank 1-8:
🟡 Yellow pads: base drums (Addictive Drums)
🔵 Cyan pads: ambient synth layers (Juno/Jupiter)

Bank 9-16:
🟢 Green pads: LinnDrum-style main beat
🔷 Blue pads: arpeggiated lead in “Aerodynamic” style

page 2
🟣 Purple pad: live mute effects for dynamics

This setup gave me flexibility to perform and shape the track in real time.

This Voyager cover is my little tribute to Daft Punk and everything EDM represents: exploration, rhythm, community, and emotion. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think!

This week’s theme is “Through the Rain,” and it really got me thinking about which song could capture the feeling of pushing forward even when things aren't going so well. Because going through the rain isn’t just poetic. it’s very real. We’ve all had those moments when the skies turn grey and everything feels heavy, yet somehow we keep going.

That’s why I chose I’m Still Standing by Elton John. On the surface, it’s upbeat, catchy, even cheerful, but if you listen closely, it’s a powerful statement of resilience. It talks about personal setbacks, emotional storms, but also about finding the strength to stand back up and move on. That’s exactly what "through the rain" means to me: not avoiding it, not pretending it’s sunny, but walking through it and coming out stronger on the other side.

What I especially love about this song is how it balances that emotional depth with such a lively rhythm. It’s proof that uplifting songs don’t have to be slow or melancholic, sometimes, the most energizing music carries the most meaningful messages.

A big highlight of the track for me is the bass line. It’s catchy, bold, and full of personality. The original bass was played by Dee Murray, who was Elton John’s longtime bassist through much of the 70s and 80s. Dee had a way of making the bass not just part of the rhythm section, but a melodic force of its own. In I’m Still Standing, the bass drives the groove in a playful and almost defiant way, it gives the song a sense of attitude and motion that’s impossible to ignore.

So for this week’s theme, I felt this song fit perfectly. It’s about enduring, recovering, and celebrating the fact that we’re still here. Maybe a little drenched from the rain, but definitely still standing.

Thanks for listening, for sharing, and for being part of this community where music connects us across stories and moments. I hope you enjoy my version.

Hey everyone! I’ve got some great news, the VIBES contest is back! Huge thanks to @lordbutterfly, @verbal-d, and @silentscreamer for keeping this amazing initiative alive. If you're interested in earning some solid HBD rewards, make sure to check out the official post.

Since there’s no specific theme this week, I decided to go back to a song I had set aside for personal reasons. I finally found the time to work on it, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Now, let’s talk a bit about the song. For week 34 of the contest, I chose to perform “Dean Town” by the band Vulfpeck. It’s a modern jazz track that’s both complex and incredibly fun to play, with that signature Vulfpeck groove.

It’s definitely one of their most iconic songs of the band. And while I don’t play it like Joe Dart, the original bassist, who is truly a master, I gave it my best and had a blast doing it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This is my first post for the Vibes Web3 Music Competition, and it's a pleasure to participate alongside my instrument: the BASS.
I've spent quite some time browsing the current entries, and I've been blown away by the talent and wonders I've seen from all around the world. This contest feels like something incredible. Watching how music brings people together will always be a beautiful sight to me.
At some point this week, I’ll make a post highlighting the performances that impressed me the most, although I’m not quite sure how I’ll do it yet. I’ve seen at least 30 people who left me speechless, and more keep joining the contest. It’s overwhelming (in the best way)!

MY ENTRY
For my first entry, I bring you a cover of the song “Plastic Love” by Mariya Takeuchi, a City Pop classic that became famous long after its original release. A mix of internet magic and nostalgia brought it back to life and into our hearts. Since I’m not a singer, and this week’s theme was to sing in a language that’s not your native one, I decided to go with this Japanese track, which truly captures the vibe of the 80s. During that era, each continent took inspiration from trending genres and made them their own. As you’ll hear, City Pop is loaded with funk, keeping a simple groove while adding plenty of movement inside it (something that reminds me a lot of acid jazz). It’s the kind of genre that makes you want to dance while cleaning your house,or at least nod your head to the beat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did recording it!

Without further ado, I’ll leave the links to my social media posts here (entry to the contest and promotional video for Vibes). The video should also appear in this post as a 3Speak embed, to make it easier for you to check it out.

If you'd like to learn more about this amazing song, keep reading after the links. Music always deserves its moment—respecting its authors, its era, and the emotions it brings.
Understanding its history helps us grow as artists and adds depth to our future discoveries. I hope this song helps you discover the world of City Pop—and if you don’t know what that is yet, maybe give it a search and listen to a few more tracks. I can recommend "Stay With Me", another iconic piece of the genre.

PLASTIC LOVE - MARIYA TAKEUCHI

Plastic Love was released in 1984 as part of the album Variety, produced by her husband Tatsuro Yamashita, another major figure in the City Pop scene. The song tells the story of a woman caught between the memory of a past love and the shallow relationships she experiences now. The “love” in the title is “plastic”: artificial, disposable, soulless.

What's incredible is that Plastic Love was not an international hit at the time. But in 2017, a user uploaded the song to YouTube with a picture of Mariya and the caption Plastic Love (Long Version). No one expected that post to go viral, but it reached over 25 million views before being taken down due to copyright. Somehow, YouTube's algorithm started recommending it massively, and suddenly, a Japanese song from the 80s started appearing in people’s feeds all over the world. This sparked a wave of interest in City Pop, with artists like Tatsuro Yamashita, Anri, and Taeko Ohnuki gaining new Western audiences. Even some vaporwave and future funk producers began sampling these sounds, giving the genre a fresh new life for a new generation.

More than just a song, Plastic Love is a bridge between eras and cultures. It’s a symbol of how art can find new life through time, and how nostalgia speaks a universal language. Its melancholic yet elegant vibe has touched millions, even those who don’t speak Japanese or lived through the 80s.

Hello Hivers! Today I bring you a special cover for the music community because it's my first cover as Lobozonico in this space. And second, I’m bringing you a track that’s every bassist’s guilty pleasure.

When you start playing bass, there are always a few bands people immediately recommend one of them being RHCP, because of their aggressive yet perfectly crafted bass lines that still respect the instrument's supportive role. This song has a bit of personal history for me. It was one of the songs I put the most effort into learning early on, since it was considered “difficult.” And believe me when I say: every bassist wants to be like Flea (or at least play his songs). I haven’t been playing bass for that long, about 4 years, but it’s an instrument that completely stole my heart. Its role as the backbone of a band is crucial. There’s a funny yet very true saying in audio engineering: you’ll never hear a bass solo, but the moment it stops, everyone notices something’s missing.

Even though the bass was originally designed with a clear purpose, to produce low frequencies and bridge percussion with harmony.nowadays we can see it doing everything: from supporting to soloing. It’s truly an instrument without limits, with a vast space to explore all it can offer.

THE SONG

This track is a gem from The Getaway (2016), produced by Danger Mouse, who for the first time stepped in to replace the legendary Rick Rubin. It marked a noticeable sonic shift for the band, but they kept their essence and that signature groove alive, and Flea’s bass, which has a life of its own.

Dark Necessities has an interesting background. It talks about the beauty that can exist in those “dark needs” we all have, those internal struggles that often end up shaping our personality. Anthony Kiedis has admitted that the lyrics are closely connected to his own personal battles.

THE BASS

Flea, as always, shines. The bass is literally the soul of the track. It blends slap, ghost notes, and a funky groove that gets stuck in your head. Interestingly, this bass line wasn’t born from a jam session, like many RHCP songs,it was carefully crafted in the studio, with the idea of sounding elegant, melancholic, and wild all at once. It’s a more “unnatural” production process for RHCP, but still very much rooted in their signature style and influences.
