En la primera infancia, el cerebro está especialmente programado para los sonidos. Los niños no aprenden un idioma traduciendo; lo adquieren asociando sonidos con objetos, acciones y contextos. Esta es la clave.

Cuando introducimos el inglés de manera natural y lúdica, estamos aprovechando esta capacidad innata. No se trata de saturarles con reglas gramaticales, sino de permitirles sentir el idioma. La pronunciación, en particular, se beneficia enormemente. Un oído entrenado desde pequeño puede discriminar y reproducir sonidos que, para un adulto, resultan extremadamente difíciles. Estamos, literalmente, moldeando su aparato fonador y su oído para que el acento nativo no sea una meta inalcanzable, sino una consecuencia natural de su aprendizaje.

Mi Estrategia Didáctica en Acción: Útiles Escolares

Dentro de nuestro actual proyecto de aprendizaje, el área de inglés tenía un objetivo claro el cual es aprender a leer y escribir los nombres de los útiles escolares en español e inglés. El contenido, aunque aparentemente sencillo, fue la semilla para una clase llena de descubrimientos. Nuestra estrategia se desarrolló en tres fases claras, siempre con la asociación como hilo conductor.

Inicio y Desarrollo: La Construcción del Cuadro de Asociación

La primera parte de la actividad consistió en elaborar un cuadro de tres columnas: Español, Inglés y Pronunciación
Confieso que este proceso fue un reto mayor del que anticipé. Para muchos, era la primera vez que estructuraban información de esta forma. Fue una lección de paciencia y guía constante.

Trabajamos paso a paso. Empezamos con la palabra en español:

• Lápiz. Luego, la escribimos en inglés, Pencil. El momento mágico llegaba en la tercera columna. con una pronunciación sencilla.
• Pencil, escribimos Pén-sil. Les pedí que repitieran el sonido, desglosándolo; Pénnnn-sil.
• Hicimos lo mismo con, Eraser ; I-réi-ser; Scissors, Sí-sors y asi sucesivamente.

Fue un ejercicio constante de deletrear palabras y reforzar sonidos, celebrando cada intento. Ver sus caras de concentración y luego de triunfo cuando lograban la pronunciación fue increíble. ¡Al final, lo lograron!

La Fase de la Pronunciación Lúdica

Con nuestro cuadro completo, pasamos a la práctica oral a través del juego. Señalaba un dibujo en el pizarrón y decían la palabra en español e inglés. La repetición en un contexto de juego hace que los sonidos empezaran a fijarse en su memoria sin esfuerzo.

Cierre y Consolidación: Dibujar y Escribir

Para cerrar el ciclo de aprendizaje, fue una actividad simple para ellos, ya que les encanta dibujar y lo hacen muy bien. Cada estudiante debía dibujar en su cuaderno los útiles escolares que más le gustaran de nuestra lista y escribir su nombre en español e inglés. Esta actividad reforzó la asociación visual (el dibujo), la grafía (la escritura) y, al hacerlo de manera individual, les dio un sentido de propiedad sobre el nuevo vocabulario.

Su Curiosidad se despertó

El verdadero indicador del éxito de una clase no está en la planificación, sino en la reacción de los estudiantes. Y hoy, el contenido fue de mucho interés para ellos. La barrera del esto es inglés se disipó y empezaron a ver el idioma como una herramienta útil y divertida.

Lo más gratificante fue escuchar sus preguntas espontáneas como:

• Maestra, ¿Cómo digo préstame tu Sacapuntas?, Este es mi lápiz, Mi bolso es azul.

Sus mentes ya estaban haciendo la transición natural de palabras sueltas a oraciones cortas y significativas. Fue una señal clara de que el aprendizaje había trascendido la tarea y se había convertido en un deseo genuino de comunicación.

Aunque el contenido requerido para este proyecto de aprendizaje se centraba en el vocabulario, no me pude resistir a la chispa de su entusiasmo. Quedamos en que nuestra próxima clase estaría dedicada a construir esas frases cortas que desean aprender.

As comprehensive classroom teachers, we have the beautiful and complex mission of being a little bit of everything for our students. We are guides in math, explorers in social studies, artists in the visual arts, and, increasingly, we must also be the first bridges to a global language: English. Today I want to share a specific experience from my third-grade class, where learning by association was our compass, especially for pronunciation.

In early childhood, the brain is specially wired for sounds. Children don't learn a language by translating; they acquire it by associating sounds with objects, actions, and contexts. This is the key.

When we introduce English in a natural and playful way, we are taking advantage of this innate ability. It's not about overwhelming them with grammatical rules, but rather allowing them to experience the language. Pronunciation, in particular, benefits enormously. An ear trained from a young age can discriminate and reproduce sounds that, for an adult, are extremely difficult. We are literally molding their speech and hearing so that a native accent isn't an unattainable goal, but a natural consequence of their learning.

My Teaching Strategy in Action: School Supplies

Within our current learning project, the English area had a clear objective: to learn to read and write the names of school supplies in Spanish and English. The content, although seemingly simple, was the seed for a class full of discoveries. Our strategy was developed in three clear phases, always with association as the guiding thread.

Initiation and Development: Building the Association Chart

The first part of the activity consisted of creating a three-column chart: Spanish, English, and Pronunciation.
I confess that this process was more challenging than I anticipated. For many, it was the first time they had structured information in this way. It was a lesson in patience and constant guidance.

We worked step by step. We started with the Spanish word:

• Lápiz. Then, we wrote it in English, Pencil. The magic moment came in the third column, with a simple pronunciation.
• Pencil, we wrote Pén-sil. I asked them to repeat the sound, breaking it down: Pénnnn-sil.
• We did the same with Eraser; I-réi-ser; Scissors; Sí-sors, and so on.

It was a constant exercise of spelling words and reinforcing sounds, celebrating each attempt. Seeing their expressions of concentration and then triumph when they got the pronunciation right was incredible. In the end, they did it!

The Playful Pronunciation Phase

With our picture complete, we moved on to oral practice through play. I pointed to a picture on the board and they said the word in Spanish and English. Repetition in a playful context helped the sounds begin to stick in their memory effortlessly.

Closure and Consolidation: Drawing and Writing

To close the learning cycle, it was a simple activity for them, since they love to draw and are very good at it. Each student had to draw in their notebook the school supplies they liked most from our list and write their names in Spanish and English. This activity reinforced the visual association (drawing) and the spelling (writing), and, by doing it individually, gave them a sense of ownership over the new vocabulary.

Their Curiosity Awakened

The true indicator of a lesson's success is not in the planning, but in the students' reaction. And today, the content was of great interest to them. The "this is English" barrier dissipated, and they began to see the language as a useful and fun tool.

The most rewarding thing was hearing their spontaneous questions like:

• Teacher, how do I say lend me your pencil sharpener?, This is my pencil, My bag is blue.

Their minds were already making the natural transition from single words to short, meaningful sentences. It was a clear sign that their learning had transcended the task and become a genuine desire to communicate.

Although the content required for this learning project focused on vocabulary, I couldn't resist the spark of their enthusiasm. We agreed that our next class would be dedicated to constructing those short sentences they longed to learn.

Expectations and Preparations

Admission was extremely cheap, less than $1 per child, although not all parents felt comfortable sending their children. As show time approached, the children were more excited in their classrooms, full of energy and enthusiasm. Their faces reflected a mix of curiosity and expectation. Although we adults were skeptical, we couldn't help but feel a little excited seeing their joy.

The field filled quickly, they settled on the floor, ready to enjoy what the circus had to offer. As the show began, we realized that, despite our initial doubts, the magic of the circus was about to dazzle us.

The Show Begins

The first artist to come out was a juggler. With impressive dexterity, he threw colored balls into the air, performing tricks that left everyone speechless. The children clapped and shouted with excitement, encouraging him to continue. The juggler not only showed his skill, but also interacted with the little ones, inviting them to participate.

After the juggler, the most anticipated moment arrived: the clown. This clown, in addition to being very tall, was really wonderful. With her colorful makeup and personality, she managed to capture everyone's attention. He made the children laugh with his antics, his comical falls and his puns. It was evident that there was a special bond between him and the little ones. Every time the clown did a trick, the children burst into laughter, asking for more and more. They didn't want him to leave; His joy was contagious. Even the teachers laugh a lot.

The Final Surprise: The Hypnotist

But the real surprise came at the end of the show. A man, who introduced himself as a hypnotist. At first, many of us were skeptical. Hypnosis in a school presentation? However, his way of calming the children down to listen to him was impressive, with his confidence they quickly captured their attention. He began to explain how hypnosis worked, and, little by little, he began to call some teachers on stage.

Seeing the teachers participate was an unexpected moment and a bit nervous. Honestly, I thought it was another moment of humor. As the hypnotist guided them through their process, the children watched. The teachers, who are normally figures of authority, let themselves be carried away by the experience, which generated amazement and applause from the audience. It was a surprising spectacle that kept everyone very attentive. I never imagined seeing our teachers in a state of hypnosis.

At the end of the show, as the children dispersed, full of laughter and comments about what they had just witnessed, I realized how important it is to open our doors to new experiences. Although we were initially skeptical about the circus visiting, the event turned out to be a success. The children not only had fun, but they also learned about the value of creativity and artistic expression.

The circus experience reminded us that sometimes the best surprises come in the most unexpected packages. The joy that the artists brought to our school was a reminder that fun and entertainment can be powerful tools for learning and connection between children.

El día martes, nuestra escuela tuvo la suerte de recibir una visita muy especial: el circo. Al principio, debo confesar que no teníamos muchas expectativas. La idea de un circo sin carpas ni un espectáculo llamativo no parecía muy prometedora. Solo se trataba de una presentación en la cancha deportiva de la escuela, y la emoción era moderada. Sin embargo, la curiosidad de los niños era contagiosa, y eso nos llevó a abrir nuestras puertas al circo.

Expectativas y Preparativos

La entrada fue sumamente económica, menos de 1 dólar por niño, a pesar de ello no todos los padres se sintieran cómodos enviando a sus hijos. A medida que se acercaba la hora del espectáculo, los niños estaban más emocionados en sus salones, llenos de energía y entusiasmo. Sus rostros reflejaban una mezcla de curiosidad y expectativa. Aunque nosotros, los adultos, éramos escépticos, no podíamos evitar sentirnos un poco emocionados al ver su alegría.

La cancha se llenó rápidamente, se acomodaron en el suelo, listos para disfrutar de lo que el circo tenía para ofrecer. A medida que el espectáculo comenzaba, nos dimos cuenta de que, a pesar de nuestras dudas iniciales, la magia del circo estaba a punto de deslumbrarnos.

El Espectáculo Comienza

El primer artista en salir fue un malabarista. Con una destreza impresionante, lanzó pelotas de colores al aire, haciendo trucos que dejaban a todos boquiabiertos. Los niños aplaudían y gritaban de emoción, animándolo a continuar. El malabarista no solo mostró su habilidad, sino que también interactuó con los pequeños, invitándolos a participar.

Después del malabarista, llegó el momento más esperado: el payaso. Este payaso además de ser muy alto era realmente maravilloso. Con su maquillaje colorido y su personalidad, logró captar la atención de todos. Hizo reír a los niños con sus travesuras, sus caídas cómicas y sus juegos de palabras. Era evidente que había un vínculo especial entre él y los pequeños. Cada vez que el payaso hacía un truco, los niños estallaban en carcajadas, pidiendo más y más. No querían que se fuera; su alegría era contagiosa. Hasta los maestros reímos muchísimo.

La Sorpresa Final: El Hipnotizador

Pero la verdadera sorpresa llegó al final del espectáculo. Un señor, que se presentó como hipnotizador. Al principio, muchos de nosotros estábamos escépticos. ¿Hipnosis en una presentación escolar? Sin embargo, su manera de calmar a los niños para escucharlo fue impresionante, con su confianza rápidamente capturaron su atención. Comenzó a explicar cómo funcionaba la hipnosis, y, poco a poco, comenzó a llamar a algunas maestras al escenario.

Ver a las maestras participar fue un momento inesperado y un poco de nervios. Sinceramente yo pene que era otro momento de humor. A medida que el hipnotizador las guiaba en su proceso, los niños observaban. Las maestras, que normalmente son figuras de autoridad, se dejaron llevar por la experiencia, lo que generó asombro y aplausos del público. Fue un espectáculo sorprendente que mantuvo a todos muy atentos. Nunca imaginé que ver a nuestras maestras en un estado de hipnosis.

Al final del espectáculo, mientras los niños se dispersaban, llenos de risas y comentarios sobre lo que acababan de presenciar, me di cuenta de lo importante que es abrir nuestras puertas a nuevas experiencias. Aunque al principio éramos escépticos sobre la visita del circo, el evento resultó ser un éxito. Los niños no solo se divirtieron, sino que también aprendieron sobre el valor de la creatividad y la expresión artística.

La experiencia del circo nos recordó que, a veces, las mejores sorpresas vienen en los paquetes más inesperados. La alegría que los artistas trajeron a nuestra escuela fue un recordatorio de que la diversión y el entretenimiento pueden ser herramientas poderosas para el aprendizaje y la conexión entre los niños.

• Hoy quiero contarte un momento extraordinario que viví, relacionado con los carnavales Venezolanos, además aprovechar el momento para participar en la iniciativa propuesta por la comunidad.

A pesar de todas las prohibiciones de papá igual disfrute mis carnavales, mis amigos siempre se las arreglaban para que aunque sea jugara un rato. Todos cómplices jajaja

*Estos Gorilas de la colonia Tovar, son una verdadera tradición que data del año 1963, inclusive cuentan que desde esa fecha se creó por el Sr. Sergio Piñango el club de los gorilas. Sus trajes son elaborados con musgo verde, el cual es cocido sobre una braga.

Yo disfruté mi día al máximo, me encanto ver familias jóvenes con sus bebes disfrazados, a Melinda que me dijo no me hagas reír en la foto porque así no es el disfraz, jajaja, toda esta belleza en familia que nos regalan estos días de descanso, además vi abuelitos felices con sus nietos, y esta tradición de los Gorilas de la Colonia Tovar que me trae gratos recuerdos de adolescencia.
