Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una canción, un clásico del bolero, "Sabor a mi" (de 1959). Su autor, el compositor y cantante Mejicano, Álvaro Carrillo.

A pesar de haber sido dada a conocer en el 59, no fue sino hasta un año después, en 1960 cuando alcanzó el éxito en México. Esta canción tiene, si se quiere, un orígen medio tragicómico porque según su hijo fue producto de una noche de coñacs. Alvaro Carrillo se encontraba tomándose unos tragos y su novia estaba con él y, al parecer, entre trago y trago la besaba. La chica se quejó diciendo: "Que de tanto besarla la iba a emborrachar", y él le respondió: "Ahora llevarás sabor a mí".

Fue así que, según cuentan las malas lenguas, de esa noche se originó lo que resultó ser un gran éxito musical en esa época.

Quisimos cambiarle un poco el ritmo y así darle un toque más animado. Espero que la disfruten!!

Today I want to share a song with you, a bolero classic: “Sabor a mi” (from 1959). It was written by the Mexican composer and singer Álvaro Carrillo.

Although it was released in ’59, it wasn’t until a year later, in 1960, that it became a hit in Mexico. This song has, if you will, a somewhat tragicomic origin because, according to his son, it was the product of a night of cognac. Álvaro Carrillo was having a few drinks with his girlfriend, and apparently, between sips, he would kiss her. The girl complained, saying, “If you keep kissing me like this, you’re going to get me drunk,” and he replied, “Now you’ll taste like me.”

And so, according to the gossip, that night gave rise to what turned out to be a huge musical hit at the time.

Por acá con mucha buena energía y con ganas de compartir más música con ustedes. En esta ocasión le corresponde a "Unforgettable", una hermosa canción dedicada a nuestra persona amada. Esta canción fue una de las primeras que comencé a cantar al ir aprendiendo la pronunciación del idioma inglés y desde siempre me ha encantado cantarla.

Su autor fue Irvin Gordon y, aunque en principio se llamaba "Uncomparable" se le pidió a su autor que lo cambiara y así lo hizo, quedando entonces tal como la conocemos hoy desde 1951, popularizada por Nat king Cole. Tiempo más tarde su hija, Natalie la retomó y la cantó como si la hubiese estado cantando con su padre, utilizando una grabación en una presentación en vivo en los 80´s. La canción fue un gran éxito, puesto que alcanzó el 14 lugar en el top 100 de la cartelera Billboard. Es una canción enmarcada dentro del género Jazz.

Este tema siempre me ha parecido especial no solo por su letra, una oda al amor expresada de una forma muy linda resaltando lo que representa el ser amado, sino también por el hecho de que se exprese lo recíproco de ese amor y admiración: **"That´s why, darling, it´s incredible that someone so unforgettable think that I am unforgettable, too" (Por eso, cariño, es increíble que alguien tan inolvidable piense que, yo soy inolvidable también). **

Para esta vuelta compartiré una canción muy linda. Se trata de un clásico del año 65, compuesto por Johnny Mandel y escrito por Paul Francis Webster. Popularizada por Tony Bennett e interpretada por grandes cantantes como Frank Sinatra.

Su letra, a pesar de ser corta, lleva en sí un hermoso mensaje de amor en el que se resalta la nostalgia y el hecho de lo perdurable de los recuerdos de un ser querido a pesar del transcurrir del tiempo y de que esto pueda llegar a ser doloroso.

El día de hoy les comparto mi interpretación de la canción: "Luka". Una canción escrita e interpretada por la cantautora estadounidense Suzanne Vega, lanzada en mayo del 1987. Es su éxito más alto en las listas de Estados Unidos, alcanzando el número tres en el Billboard Hot 100. A nivel mundial, la canción alcanzó el puesto más alto en Suecia y llegó al Top 10 en Austria, Canadá, Nueva Zelanda y Sudáfrica. Tuvo nominaciones a los Premios Grammy de 1988, incluyendo Grabación del Año, Canción del Año y Mejor Interpretación Vocal Pop Femenina. Vega también grabó una versión en español de la canción, incluida en el lanzamiento del sencillo.

Al hablar de “Luka” no podemos referirnos a ella como una canción más, una de estas que gana premios y que solo es famosa por este hecho. Luka se caracteriza por tener un mensaje. Su letra nos habla de una problemática que, por muchos años, se ha querido omitir o esconder detrás de una frase más adornada: “dar un escarmiento para que aprenda”. El “escarmiento para que aprenda” es tan viejo como el Maltrato infantil y es algo que por mucho tiempo se normalizó en muchos hogares y que, al mismo tiempo, era mal visto por muchos.

Vega en un documental, en el año 2018 habló sobre el significado de su canción:

“Quería escribir sobre el abuso infantil… Tenía que pensar en cómo escribir sobre un tema del que nadie habla”.

Para mí, siempre ha sido una canción muy especial, tanto por su letra como la manera que introduce el tema del maltrato infantil a través de una hermosa canción que nos cuenta una historia creada desde la observación de la vida.

Today I’m sharing my cover of the song “Luka.” The song was written and performed by American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega and released in May 1987. It was her biggest hit on the U.S. charts, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Globally, the song peaked at number one in Sweden and reached the Top 10 in Austria, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. It received nominations for the 1988 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Vega also recorded a Spanish-language version of the song, included on the single’s release.

When we talk about “Luka,” we can’t just refer to it as just another song—one of those that wins awards and is famous solely for that reason. “Luka” stands out because it carries a message. Its lyrics address an issue that, for many years, people have tried to ignore or hide behind a more euphemistic phrase: “teaching a lesson so they’ll learn.” “Teaching a lesson so they’ll learn” is as old as child abuse itself and is something that was long normalized in many homes while, at the same time, being frowned upon by many.

In a 2018 documentary, Vega spoke about the meaning of her song:

“I wanted to write about child abuse… I had to figure out how to write about a topic that nobody talks about."

For me, this has always been a very special song, both because of its lyrics and the way it addresses the issue of child abuse through a beautiful song that tells a story inspired by observations of life.

La canción que quiero compartir con ustedes se llama: "Una Especie en extinción", y es una balada pop-rock de los años 80 interpretada por la cantante Peruana-Venezolana: Melissa Griffiths. La canción destaca por su temática romántica y fue popularizada durante la época de auge de Melissa, conocida como "La Reina del Rock" en Venezuela. Fue utilizado como Soundtrack de una novela muy famosa en mi país.

Para esa época y desde entonces era conocida como una de las baladas románticas más populares en Venezuela. A pesar de que no hay material extenso que hable sobre este tema, sabemos que formó parte importante de la trayectoria de la artista.

A manera de anécdota

Recuerdo que, en su momento, en casa, mamá veía en la tele una novela que se transmitía a las 9 de la noche, llamada: "Y la luna también". La música siempre llamaba mi atención y aunque poco prestaba atención a la letra, la melodía siempre me atrapaba. Tiempo después, cuando tenía consciencia de las cosas, me preguntaba, ¿Cómo mamá me permitía escuchar esa canción?

Hoy la siento como una canción muy linda que guarda el secreto más grande en una relación de pareja: Encontrar siempre en el otro algo nuevo, sin importar el tiempo que tengan juntos, sumando positivamente a la relación. Alguien que se refirió a ese motivo en una ocasión lo llamó, "la sorpresa del cuerpo conocido", siempre con la inquebrantable decisión de permanecer a través de la vida.

The song I want to share with you is called “Una Especie en extinción,” a 1980s pop-rock ballad performed by the Peruvian-Venezuelan singer Melissa Griffiths. The song stands out for its romantic theme and became popular during the height of Melissa’s career, when she was known as “The Queen of Rock” in Venezuela. It was used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera in my country.

At that time and ever since, it has been known as one of the most popular romantic ballads in Venezuela. Although there isn’t much material available on this topic, we know it played an important role in the artist’s career.

Just a little story

I remember that, back then, at home, my mom used to watch a soap opera on TV that aired at 9 p.m., called “Y la luna también” (And the Moon Too). The music always caught my attention, and even though I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics, the melody always captivated me. Later on, when I was old enough to understand things, I wondered, “How could Mom let me listen to that song?”

Today I see it as a very beautiful song that holds the greatest secret in a romantic relationship: always finding something new in the other person, no matter how long you’ve been together, adding positively to the relationship. Someone who once referred to that theme called it “the surprise of the familiar body,” always with the unwavering determination to remain together throughout life.

I am eternally grateful to my life partner, my favorite guitarist @orlandognzalez. I can never thank him enough.

La Biblia siempre ha sido y será el mayor incentivo para aquellos que creemos fielmente en las promesas de Dios. Por esta razón, siento que no hay un momento específico ni una razón especial para alabarle y darle gracias por su misericordia hacia nosotros.

Mamá solía decir que era muy fácil alabar a Dios cuando todo iba bien, pero que hacerlo cuando atravesábamos momentos difíciles nos reportaba mayores beneficios, aunque fuera difícil de creer. Cuando oía a mi madre decir estas cosas, no la entendía realmente. No tenía sentido para mí, y solo mucho más tarde pude verlo por mí misma. Cuando damos gracias en los buenos momentos, puede parecer hasta natural, pero es precisamente cuando damos gracias en los momentos de necesidad cuando Dios, en su providencia, nos recompensa dándonos alegría y esperanza en medio de las dificultades. Entonces comprendemos que, en la medida en que somos agradecidos y alabamos el nombre del Señor, obtenemos paz en medio de la tormenta.

El Rey David lo sabía. Comprendía que su fuerza, su alegría y su paz solo podían venir de Dios, quien estaba con él tanto en los momentos de alegría como en los peores momentos. Por eso puedo decir sin temor a equivocarme que, así como Dios está con nosotros en todo momento, nosotros debemos, en todo momento estar agradecidos.

The Bible has always been and will always be the greatest incentive for those of us who faithfully believe in God's promises. For this reason, I feel that there is no specific moment or special reason to praise and thank Him for His mercy toward us.

Mom used to say that it was very easy to sing praises to God when everything was going well, but that doing so when we were going through difficult times brought us greater benefits, even if it was hard to believe. When I heard my mother say these things, I didn't really understand her. It didn't make sense to me, and it was only much later that I was able to see it for myself. When we give thanks in good times, it may seem natural, but it is precisely when we give thanks in times of need that God, in His providence, rewards us by giving us joy and hope in the midst of difficulty. We understand then that, to the extent that we are grateful and praise the name of the Lord, we obtain peace in the midst of the storm.

David knew this. He understood that his strength, his joy, and his peace could only come from God, who was with him in times of joy as well as in his worst moments. So I can say without fear of contradiction that just as God is with us at all times, we must be grateful.

The Psalm I brought this week to share in this song is Psalm 34:1-4, which says:

Estamos en una nueva semana, y una nueva oportunidad para compartir canciones y buenas vibras con todos aquellos quienes semana a semana hacen vida en esta popular plataforma.

Para muchos es difícil creer en el amor, mucho menos enamorarse, ¿Cómo hacer o emprender en algo que no se cree? Para otros, por el contrario, se les dificulta pensar en la vida sin amar y ser amado. Esto es algo de lo cual pudiéramos hablar en alguna otra oportunidad, lo cierto es que es un sentimiento al cual se le han dedicado muchísimas canciones y una de ellas la he traído para compartirla con ustedes.

LA CANCIÓN

YOU´RE MY EVERYTHING

Es una canción del grupo SANTA ESMERALDA del año 1977. Este tema fue interpretado por el cantante Leroy Gomez y fue muy famoso en la radio para aquel momento. Este tema formó parte de un álbum que se encontraba dentro del formato de música que fusionaba la música disco con elementos del flamenco y latinos; aunque está en particular fue una balada de amor.

Cuando esta canción estaba en la radio, yo tenía 6 años y para ese entonces nos cuidaba una prima mayor mientras mamá y papá trabajaban, y recuerdo que ella tenía un cinturón con el que siempre nos amenazaba, amenazas que nunca se llegaron a materializar y el que se convertía en el cable de un micrófono al dejar sonar esa canción de fondo y comenzarla a cantar "torturando el idioma inglés" mientras que, poco a poco, comíamos alguna merienda que previamente nos prepara. Este es un recuerdo que traigo con ustedes para resaltar lo excelentemente interpretado que estaba este tema que hasta mi prima sin saber o entender nada del idioma, al "cantarlo" parecía sentir cada cosa que decía.

Para hacerlo, me acompañó mi eterno compañero de vida y en la música, @orlandogonzalez con su guitarra y sonido. Espero que les guste y puedan disfrutarlo.

When this song was on the radio, I was six years old and at that time an older cousin looked after us while Mom and Dad were at work, and I remember that she had a belt that she always threatened us with, threats that never materialized, and which became a microphone cord when she played that song in the background and began to sing, "torturing the English language" while we slowly ate a snack she had prepared for us. This is a memory I bring to you to highlight how excellently this song was performed, that even my cousin, without knowing or understanding anything about the language, seemed to feel everything she was saying when she "sang" it.

Acaba de terminar un tiempo de celebración. Tiempo en el cual muchos países celebran con gran alegría y en el que, para ello, se acostumbra a vestir de forma diferente: utilizando disfraces con variedad de colores y brillos. Algunos adicionan a sus atuendos las "máscaras", otorgándole a su disfraz un toque de misterio que en ocasiones provoca la curiosidad en los demás.

Si bien es cierto la canción que escogí para esta oportunidad no habla de máscaras, también lo es el hecho de que es un tema que está muy relacionado con el ambiente festivo y lo relativo al carnaval por su ritmo alegre y armonioso.

Más que Nada

Según Wikipedia, la expresión "Más que nada" se traduce comúnmente como "pues claro", "¡sí, claro!" o "no importa", y la canción celebra la alegría de la música brasileña.

Es un tema de Jorge Ben, grabado en su primer LP, "Samba Esquema Novo" en el año 1965 y regrabada por: Sergio Mendez, en el año 1966. Este tema ha sido interpretado por muchos artistas de renombre, entre ellos la agrupación Black Eyed Peas en el año 2006. Es un tema escogido en el año 2013 para estar en el Salón de la Fama de los Latin Grammy y considerada por la revista "The rolling stone brasileña" como la mejor canción brasileña de la historia.

Quise compartirlo con ustedes en su idioma original y tomé el reto de cantarlo en portugués a pesar de que manejo poco este idioma. Para hacer este tema, utilicé como respaldo musical una pista que tenía guardada en mis archivos desde hace algún tiempo y canté sobre ella.

While it is true that the song I chose for this occasion does not mention masks, it is also true that it is a song closely related to the festive atmosphere and carnival due to its cheerful and harmonious rhythm.

Es una canción romántica cuya letra expresa el dolor del fin de una relación amorosa, el horrible sentir de la despedida anunciada y él último beso de amor. Un final que, además de esperado, no fue el mejor para uno de los dos y deja una huella marcada por la nostalgia en el corazón. Siempre me ha gustado porque más allá de su letra melancólica, tiene una hermosa melodía, además de pegajosa.

Hello, dear friends of Hive Music Festival! We are starting a new week to participate and share a little of what we love to do, and in our case, music occupies a special place. For this new round, I bring you a song by Obie Bermúdez, a Puerto Rican-American singer and musician. The song in question was part of his second album entitled “Confesiones” (July 2003). It is one of the songs that made him most famous and is classified in the “Tropical Music” genre, Latin Pop, produced by Cachorro López, under the EMI Latin record label.

It is a romantic song whose lyrics express the pain of the end of a romantic relationship, the horrible feeling of the announced farewell and the last kiss of love. An ending that, in addition to being expected, was not the best for one of the two and leaves a mark of nostalgia in the heart. I have always liked it because, beyond its melancholic lyrics, it has a beautiful and catchy melody.

To create this song, I had the invaluable collaboration of @orlandogonzalez, who accompanies me in most of my performances. A hug and my eternal gratitude.

"You Are My Sunshine" es un clásico de todos los tiempos que, además de hermoso, esconde profundidad con un dejo de tristeza añorante, una declaración de amor eterno que más allá del tiempo, le permite ser una hermosa canción de cuna.

Esta canción nos muestra la otra cara del amor, éste que muchas veces podría tornarse en dependiente y por ende doloroso. La popularizó Jimmie Davis en la década de 1930 y ha sido interpretada por una gran variedad de artistas, quienes han hecho desde versiones infantiles hasta emotivas como la de Christina Perri, quien la llevó a otro nivel emocional. En la mayoría de los casos se canta en tonalidades mayores, pero su estructura melódica tiende a descender evocando la tristeza relacionada a la letra, a pesar de que se cante con tono cariñoso. Esto entre otros detalles permite que la canción se pueda utilizar: como nana para un niño, como promesa a un amor, o como lamento por alguien perdido, y relacionando la experiencia humana universal de amar con el miedo a perder el ser amado. Por ser capaz de causar tanta emoción con palabras tan sencillas la convierte en una obra
maestra de la música popular, una tonada que perdura en el corazón de quienes la escuchan.

Hay ocasiones que la vida nos presenta seres que nos devuelven un motivo de vida y sin los cuales no concebimos estar. Al escuchar este tema siento que, justamente, este es el contexto en el que nos envuelve. El amor hacia alguien que, sin lugar a dudas, se ha convertido en nuestro enfoque vital. “You Are My Sunshine” is an all-time classic that, in addition to being beautiful, hides depth with a hint of wistful sadness, a declaration of eternal love that transcends time, allowing it to be a beautiful lullaby.

This song shows us the other side of love, which can often become dependent and therefore painful. Warm greetings, dear friends of Hive Music Festival! It is an immense honor to join this spectacular community and share my music with you. On this occasion, I am pleased to perform one of the great classics of 1972: “You Are The Sunshine of My Life” by the legendary Stevie Wonder.

This piece is a tribute to love, capable of conveying the deep gratitude and admiration one can feel for someone special. In this context, I would like to thank my husband @orlandogonzalez for accompanying me on the guitar on this occasion.

Para esta edición, cuyo tema central es el "Movimiento", he seleccionado una pieza que personifica perfectamente esa sensación de ser transportados a otro lugar. Se trata de "Fly Me To The Moon", un tema que, más allá de su ritmo, representa el movimiento más puro que existe: el del alma cuando se enamora.

Fue compuesta originalmente por Bart Howard en 1954, aunque en aquel entonces se titulaba "In Other Words". En su inicio, fue concebida como un vals lento, pero la historia de la canción cambiaría para siempre una década después. Fue en 1964 cuando el gran Frank Sinatra, lanzó su icónica versión en clave de swing. Un dato inetersante que descubrí al investigar acerca de esta canción, es que quedó ligada al movimiento del progreso humano, al ser la música que acompañó a los astronautas de las misiones Apolo en su viaje hacia la Luna.

Cantar este tema es sentir el amor en una presentación diferente. Espero que disfruten de esta versión tanto como yo disfruté al grabarla.

Hello, dear friends of Hive Open Mic! I hope you've had an amazing week, full of harmony and creativity. Although I'm a little late for our weekly appointment, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to join week 304 and share with you a classic that has transcended generations.

For this edition, whose central theme is “Movement,” I have selected a piece that perfectly embodies that feeling of being transported to another place. It is “Fly Me To The Moon,” a song that, beyond its rhythm, represents the purest movement that exists: that of the soul when it falls in love.

It was originally composed by Bart Howard in 1954, although at that time it was titled “In Other Words.” Initially, it was conceived as a slow waltz, but the song's history would change forever a decade later. It was in 1964 when the great Frank Sinatra released his iconic swing version. An interesting fact I discovered while researching this song is that it became linked to the movement of human progress, as it was the music that accompanied the Apollo astronauts on their journey to the moon.

Hello dear friends of Hive Open Mic! It is a pleasure and a great honor for me to be with you again, after so long without sharing one of my covers in this beautiful community. This week we have a very beautiful theme called “Children,” and I feel that the song I chose for this occasion does it justice. It was originally released on the album “Cantando con tío Simón” (Fauna Viva, 1999), and its lyrics use a poetic narrative to describe a cow interacting with nature and the sky.

The song is designed to stimulate children's imaginations, and at the time, the singer-songwriter dedicated it to a group of people dedicated to nurturing children's creativity through storytelling.

To perform this song, my dear husband @orlandogonzalez accompanied me on guitar, sharing this pleasant moment with me on screen.

En más de una ocasión he dicho que la música es una de las mejores terapias tanto para la trabajar la atención y el enfoque como para ejercitar la memoria, estimular los múculos del cuerpo, relajar o entusiasmar el espiritu, según sea el caso, entre muchos otros beneficios de los que nuestros niños pueden disfrutar con solo escucharla. Sin embatgo, me he dado cuenta, con el paso del tiempo, que a mis gemelos al igual que todos los demás niños, la adolescencia también les hace cambiar y a veces estos cambios son un tanto difíciles, y si lo fueron para nosotros cuando en algún momento pasamos por allí y como pudimos los sorteamos, imagínense como será esto en su cerebro que aún no termina de entender lo que les ocurre en su totalidad.

El punto es que dentro de estos cambios está la forma de disfrutar de la música, tomando como punto de comparación, la forma en que lo hacían siendo más niños.

Ellos aman escuchar música y hacer ritmos a su libre albedrío, sin embargo, ya han dejado de compartir en grupo o, lo hacen con menos frecuencia. Amán escuchar los soundtracks de la películas pero ya han dejado de bailar a menos que mamá los saque se su zona de confort :).

En fin poco a poco y con paciencia, quiero imaginar y creer que en algún punto retomaremos el sendero musical :)

El regalo que hoy quiero compartir con ustedes fue el producto de una petición mía, con el premio de verse en hive como en alguna oportunidad estuvieron mamá y papá cantando.

En la primera parte lo dejé reencontrarse con el sonido de la marimba obtenido al percutir los pads de la batería electrónica que tiene en su cuarto, de forma libre y sin ningún patrón.

Luego, al pedirle que hiciera algo de lo que antes había tocado con su papá recordó, como por arte de magia, los pollitos. Lo que más me gustó fue el hecho de que en la misma medida que iba tocando, a pesar del tiempo que tiene sin practicar, recordaba la sucesión de sonidos de forma correcta.

Espero que de alguna forma este pequeño obsequio les estimule a ustedes como padres a manera de que recuerden que no debemos aflojar nuestro buen ánimo aunque en ocasiones sintamos la indisposición de parte de nuestros niños.

Aunque sabemos que su ser siempre está presto, también sabemos que su cuerpo no todo el tiempo lo está y es por ello que hoy quiero, a través de esta canción, retribuirle de alguna forma un poco de esta energía que con mucho gusto siempre comparte con nosotros. Ojala hubiese podido encontrar la forma de mejorar el audio, es una canción que le traigo con mucho cariño esperando poner una sonrisa en su rostro y aliviar cualquier pena que se encuentre rondando su mente.

La canción que traigo como regalo You've Got A Friend, es una canción de 1971 escrita por James Taylor y Carole King. Fue grabada por primera vez por King y se incluyó en su álbum Tapestry.

Aunque siento que su letra alucsión al mejor amigo que podemos tener, "Jesus", también creo que es excelente para dedicarla, a título personal, a una persona especial como con toda seguridad lo es el amigo @lecumberre
