The clip itself is from halftime. When Bad Bunny mentioned Guatemala, the room reacted. Fun night, even though im not much of a sports guy...i kinda like seeing peeps come together. Kinda think more people came for Mr. Bunny then the game.
Trump may not like it. though i think the americas appreciate having a spanish speaker as headliner. and i imagine the ratings were pretty high. ill be curious to see comparisons to other years.

Trump might not have liked Mr. Bunny...but i think ratings and the vast majority of the world did. Especially the Americas that got called out!

A little time out on the water — paddle board drifting, kids jumping, that quiet-in-your-head feeling the lake gives you if you let it. Some rope swing chaos. Cold water. Laughter. Repeat.

Boxing Day turned into a loose gathering at Artesano 'Wine and Cheese' with a few other families. Long tables, shared platters, no one in a hurry to be anywhere else.

We took a boat over to San Juan, did what you’re supposed to do there: wandered, joked around, didn’t take much seriously. Those are often the best trips — no agenda, just motion.

That night we tried to catch the fireworks. They didn’t really translate on camera, which is probably fitting. In real life it was wild — every town around the lake lighting up at once, fireworks firing from all directions, a full 360-degree, totally decentralized show. No grand finale, just everyone contributing their own little explosion.

This is what the holidays look like for us here. Goof ball kids, saying 67 and skibidi like it means something..... spending time together, water, movement, and moments that mostly live better off-camera anyway.

In this video you’ll see him doing what he does best — serenading the crowd, hyping everyone up, and turning Del Lago into a full-on celebration. I even climbed up onto the balcony to grab a long shot so you can see all the peeps dancing
. More than 100 people showed up to dance, move, sweat, shout, and just enjoy being alive together.

Nights like this remind me why we do all this work — moments where the place is overflowing with good energy and the lake feels like it’s watching the party with a smile.

This room at Hotel Del Lago hadn’t seen a full scrape-and-paint since pre-Covid, which means… yeah. It was absolutely time. Peeling walls, years of wear, humidity doing its thing — so we stripped it all back and did it properly.

We had four days to flip the entire room and get it guest-ready before the next people walked back in. No extensions. No “we’ll finish tomorrow.” Just get it done.

During the scraping phase, the kids jumped in too. I jokingly called it child labor (everyone relax 😂), but honestly, getting the kids involved is half the point. They learn what it takes, they take ownership of the place, and yes — extra hands don’t hurt when you’re racing high season.

It’s a lot of work, but this is what high-season prep actually looks like behind the scenes. Quiet upgrades. Dust. Sweat. Paint in your hair. And doing the kind of maintenance you never see in the final booking photos — but absolutely feel when you stay.

Then we switched gears a bit and showed a quick glimpse of our Halloween party, where we invited local families for a fun, spooky get-together. Kids in costumes, parents mingling—it was a warm, community moment that we loved sharing.

But the real highlight was our little flea market event. We set up shop in the lower lake house area, laid out all sorts of items—basically, things that had served us well but needed a new home. It was a big effort to organize and price everything, but the result was fantastic: neighbors and friends came by, picked up what they wanted, and we got that satisfying “spring cleaning” vibe even though it wasn’t spring. In the end, anything left over was given away for free or tossed out, leaving us with a lighter, more minimalist space.

I feel like it would make more sense if it was called a flee market instead of a flea market, as it felt like we let things flee from our life to make space.

When things fall apart, you just get back to work. That’s what we did. After losing our renter, we could’ve sat in the disappointment, but instead we picked up tools and started moving. Sometimes you don’t need a plan — just a good reason to keep going.

We tore into the café, one section at a time. The old cobblestone floor that used to trip everyone up got a clean layer of tile. The walls got a fresh coat of paint. The place started to feel alive again. It was hard work, but good work — the kind that burns off frustration and replaces it with momentum.
There's something about renovaton that changes how you see a space. Every tile we laid and every brush stroke we made felt like reclaiming it, piece by piece. The Hive Hub isn't just an idea, it's something we're grounding in reality.
This place has gone through a lot of changes, and so have we. Losing the renter was rough, but maybe it was exactly what needed to happen. It forced us to look at what we actually want this place to be. Something real, something lasting. A home base for creative people, travelers, and anyone who wants to build something that matters.
It's not perfect yet, but it's better,and it's ours. We're still working, still figuring it out, but that's part of the process.
Setback, misteps, mistakes are all just opportunities in disguese, a chance to get creative. The story of Del Lago has been one of hitting our head against the wall and saying ouch, then trying not to repeat. Right now Hive is in a bit of an Ouchie moment, nobody likes to see the price so low, but this is also an opportunity.. Time for hiveans to get their head down and build. Posting now means when the price goes up, you make even more.

Sometimes the best days are the unplanned ones, when the sun is out, the lake is calm, and everyone’s itching to jump in. This Sunday was one of those perfect days. We packed up the boat, grabbed some snacks, and headed out for a day on the water.

You’ll see in the video, Mom (@myinnervoice) took the helm, absolutely in her element steering us across Lake Atitlán. The kids, @thebombkids, were all energy and adrenaline, climbing rocks, laughing, and daring each other to jump from higher and higher spots. Percy took things to the next level, pulling off multiple jumps from different cliffs and even the rope swing, fearless as ever.

I threw in some thrashy, high-energy music to match the vibe, the spray of the lake, the roar of the motor, and that mix of joy and chaos that only comes from a full family day outdoors.

It’s easy to get caught up in work and projects, but days like this remind me why we do it all, to make time for what really matters. Just being together, laughing, pushing limits, and soaking up the sun.

I started with a roof pour. That’s messy, wet, chaotic. You dump concrete, you fight gravity, you hope things don’t crack. But that pour was necessary — it set the skeleton in place.

Then came building the base for the floor. You can’t just slap tile on nothing. You need structure, stability. So we layered, with rocks and sand and covered that in a double thick plastic and rolled out the metal, got it all level, measured again and again. And poured out the floor. Lots of moisture in Guatemala and if you dont want mold, you need to take the necessary precautions.

Pouring the cement slab and watching raw materials turn into a floor you can walk on — that moment always feels magical. It was nice to not be walking on dirt anymore, but we still had a long way to go.

Walls followed. You toss cement to even the walls up, here they call that the lechada, which translates to something like the milk layer 🤷‍♂️
Once the walls are evened up we stuccoed them, patched them, made them flat and white.
Next was the tiling: 72 square meters of floor in 5 days.

Doors and windows came last. You have to finish the shell before you start opening holes in it, otherwise rain, dust, insects will walk right in. But once they were in, the space started feeling real.

The Ping Pong Factor (Yes, That’s Real)

I didn’t just want a pretty room. I wanted play. I measured and put in lights to best see the little white ball. Fitting the pong table guided everything — wall position, door placement, window size, even ceiling height.

Behind the Scenes: Chaos, Compromise, and Coordination
Getting materials: it’s never simple. You order something, it’s late, it’s wrong, you improvise.
Coordinating teams: tile guys, cement crews, window installers — they all need to show up at the right time or the schedule collapses.
Adjustments: I changed things as I went. This video represent the last 4 months of my home life. My day life was running the hotel, creating hive hub, and refurbishing the roadside cafe. So this was more a side project that i needed to keep my eye one as it advanced.

Before diving into today’s post, The room I recorded in had way more echo than I expected, and the audio came out rough. I had to cut a good chunk of what I filmed just to make it watchable, so what you’re seeing here are the clearer parts. Thanks for bearing with me — lesson learned!

Hair, Time, and Ritual ✂️

Since my twenties, I’ve had this cycle that has become something of a personal ritual: grow my hair long, then shave it all off. At first, it was partly about being frugal — skipping the barber for years saved me money. But it was never just about that.

Over time, I noticed how much I enjoyed the way my appearance shifted as my hair grew through different stages. Short, medium, long — each length carried its own vibe and influenced how people saw me, and even how I carried myself.

But the real reason this stuck is deeper: each time I shave my head, it feels like closing the chapter on one period of my life and starting fresh with another. Two years, three years, sometimes four — and then the clippers come out, and with that buzz, it’s like I can physically feel a reset.

A Marker of Time

Looking back, my haircuts are almost like milestones. I can remember what was happening in my life based on whether my hair was long or short. It’s funny how something so simple can turn into a kind of living calendar — a way to measure growth, change, struggle, and renewal.
For me, shaving my head isn’t just about style or saving money. It’s a small act of symbolism. It’s about acknowledging the passage of time, honoring what’s behind me, and giving myself a clean slate for whatever comes next.

So that’s the story behind my cycle of long hair and shaved heads. It might seem like just a quirky habit, but for me it’s become a ritual of renewal — a way to mark the seasons of my life, and changes. Currently it feels very appropriate, as lots is shifting in my life. And by the next time my hair is long, i plan on having accomplished alot!
