I didn’t rush in as early as I did the previous day. After all, I had one mission which was to secure a great spot at the Corona Sunset Stage and wait it out till Green Day exploded onto the scene. I left my hostel a little after lunch, caught an auto to Andheri station, grabbed a return local train ticket, and rode straight to Mahalakshmi. The timing was perfect. By around 3 PM, I had made my way into the festival grounds.

Before heading over to the Corona Sunset Stage to camp for Green Day, I had some time to spare and I’m so glad I did, because I ended up catching Kamakshi Rai’s set on the adjacent stage. It was my first time seeing her perform live, and she was fabulous. Her vocals were smooth, her energy was infectious, and she had this effortless stage presence that just pulled you in. Definitely one of those unexpected discoveries that made the day even better.

Now, here’s the thing!! campers had already begun to claim their barricade spots like they were setting up for a music pilgrimage 😂 and honestly, it felt like one. I somehow found myself a spot right next to the barricade and planted myself there under the scorching sun. And I’m not exaggerating when I say it was blazing.

But what truly made things bearable was the thoughtful staff. People were handing out water bottles to those of us sitting through the heat, and someone passed around Bandanas soaked in cold water and I tied one around my head and immediately felt less like a potato roasting in the sun 🥵 There was also this brand called Liquid I.V. that handed out free electrolyte sachets and wow, that was a godsend. Slightly salty, a little sweet, but mostly refreshing. They were walking around making sure folks didn’t collapse, which I deeply appreciated.

The first act on this stage was Green Park at 3:15 PM. I hadn’t heard of them before, but they quickly got my attention. Think indie pop rock with some groovy guitar work and energetic vocals. Their sound was a great way to warm up the crowd, and the band had that easygoing stage charm that made you want to bop along even if you didn’t know the lyrics. They’re definitely going on my post festival playlist.

Following them at around 4:25 PM was Raman Negi and this one got me genuinely excited. He was formerly the lead vocalist of The Local Train, one of India’s most loved rock bands. I’ve followed their music for years, so seeing him solo was a treat. His performance had raw energy and heartfelt lyrics that got the crowd swaying. You could see people singing along, especially to the songs that gave off that familiar Local Train vibe.

While waiting at the Corona stage, I also caught bits of Aurora’s set on the Keep Walking Stage, which was directly across from where I was. If you haven’t heard her before, she’s this ethereal Norwegian artist with a voice that sounds like it belongs in a fantasy movie. Her energy is pure and infectious, and when I heard her voice float across the grounds, I knew I had to make a quick run.

I turned to the sweet couple next to me and asked, “Could you please hold my spot for a few minutes?” They were kind enough to say yes. So I dashed across, caught a few songs from Aurora’s set, didn’t have the time to capture anything here since I was in a hurry, and even managed a quick detour to the washroom. Oh, and thanks to organisers , people who showed proof of traveling by local train received a free beverage coupon! I traded mine in for a chilled orange juice that tasted like heaven at that point.

By the time 6 PM rolled around, the sun had dipped, and a cool breeze began to settle over the venue. The crowd density around me began to grow. We all knew what was coming next. At 6:10 PM, Nothing But Thieves took over the stage. A British alternative rock band with incredible range. Their hit “Amsterdam” was the one I was waiting for, and the crowd went absolutely nuts for it. The lead singer, Conor Mason, has this amazing ability to switch between falsetto and pure power, and it was one of those performances where even the non fans were jumping by the end.

Across the field, Louis Tomlinson formerly part of One Direction started his set on the Keep Walking Stage. And to everyone’s surprise, he sang some One Direction songs too. It was an emotional moment for many in the crowd and you could see fans tearing up. It was a wholesome throwback.

And then, right before Green Day took the stage, something magical happened.

They played Bohemian Rhapsody over the speakers 🔥

I swear, it was like a switch flipped !!! everyone began singing. Imagine thousands of people singing every line, every note, word for word with the headbanging part included. It was goosebumps inducing. I looked around and just… smiled 🥹 These were my people. These were music lovers. I won’t lie, I had tears in my eyes. Happy tears.

Soon after, Green Day’s mischievous mascot “Bunny” ran out on stage and started hyping the crowd and then, just like that, Green Day walked out. The crowd erupted into the loudest cheer of the night.

They opened with Jesus of Suburbia and… that was it ! I lost my mind 🤯

You could feel the emotional weight of this band playing for fans who had waited years for this. For many of us, this band shaped our teenage years. Their music was an outlet, a rebellion, a comfort and now, they were right there, in front of us.

Before launching into American Idiot, they inflated this massive balloon shaped like a hand holding a grenade. The exact image from their iconic album cover. I swear, it was such a cinematic moment. I still get chills thinking about it.

And Billie Joe Armstrong 🔥 what a performer. He had this insane energy that didn’t let up for a single second. His interaction with the crowd, the constant running around the stage, pulling people in ! The man’s a living legend.

But the absolute fan highlights ? Two people actually got pulled up on stage. During Know Your Enemy, Billie called up a fan named Siya and handed her the mic to sing a part of the song and damn, she crushed it. The crowd went wild. The energy she brought matched the band’s! it was like she belonged up there.

Later, during Dilemma, he brought up this guy and get this, had him play the song on Billie’s guitar. And after the performance? He gifted him the guitar. What even?! That was such a once in a lifetime fan moment, and everyone around me was losing it. Later in the WhatsApp group, I found out his name ‘Ishan Parikh’ and honestly, I felt so happy for him. Can you imagine that being your story ? Played with Green Day and took home Billie Joe’s guitar.

The fireworks at the end were, to be honest, not that great especially compared to Day 1. But no one cared. We just saw Green Day. Live. And it was everything I wanted and more.

By the time I left, it was nearly 11 PM. Somehow, I managed to hop onto a train back to Andheri, picked up some dinner, and reached my hostel. I crashed into bed, smiling like an idiot. Green Day live? I still can't believe it happened.

Back at the hostel that night, still buzzing from Green Day’s performance, I finally opened the limited edition Lollapalooza poster that @yugadi had gifted me for my birthday. Unfolding it felt like unwrapping the whole experience all over again and I couldn’t stop staring at it. It’s more than just a poster now. It’s a reminder of two unforgettable days, a birthday gift that captured a memory I’ll hold on to for a long time. I was genuinely so grateful.

The next morning, I checked out of the hostel, my bag a little heavier but my heart a lot fuller. I took an auto to the railway station, grabbed a quick breakfast, and treated myself to a soft serve ice cream, a quiet little ritual before the long journey back to Chennai. As the train pulled away from Mumbai, I found myself replaying the weekend in my head. From solo train rides to standing under the sun waiting for Green Day, from new friends to surprise performances — Lollapalooza India was everything I’d hoped for and more. These two days ? Definitely going in my year’s highlight reel.

P.S compiling this video was a pain in the ass since the videos have been captured in 4K and the output .mp4 file was a whopping 37 GB and it took me about 12 renders to reduce the output file size to keep it under 5 GB so that I could upload it to 3Speak 😪

I wasn’t expecting much when my friend handed me a cylindrical black devices when she decided to come down to India for a Vacation. “This one’s for you,” she said with a grin, like she knew a secret I didn’t. I looked at it and it was just sleek, matte, and delightfully cryptic. No brand name, no flashy logo. Just clean lines and a subtle promise of caffeine.

Fast forward a few weeks, and this mystery gadget has become a staple on my desk, in my backpack, and even sometimes to a coffee shop that makes shit coffee (Okay I’m Joking Here, But This Would Be A Great Thing To Do 😂). I’ve brewed a shot of espresso in the middle of a road trip and even once at the edge of a trail before sunrise. If James Bond drank espressos on his missions, I imagine this is what he’d use.

I decided to do a full breakdown of this device just for this lovely community here so instructions, review, and a few fun hiccups I had while using it. The video I shot explains the usage visually, but this blog post goes into all the juicy details including how I used pourover grounds because I didn’t have fine espresso grind that day.

What Is This Portable Espresso Maker?

Let’s start with what we know: it’s a compact, USB-C rechargeable espresso machine that works with both ground coffee and capsule pods. It’s got a water tank, an on-button, a battery level indicator, a capsule puncture needle attachment, a coffee ground filter attachment and a detachable coffee cup that screws into the base. Simple but surprisingly powerful.

There’s something beautiful about gadgets that don’t overcomplicate things and this one doesn’t try to connect to your phone or demand an app download. You just charge it, add coffee, and brew. No nonsense 🫡

Using Ground Coffee with the Portable Espresso Maker

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Charge the device – Use the USB-C port to fully charge the battery. It usually takes around 2-2.5 hours to charge completely. The LED lights indicate battery levels.

Add water – Pop open the top water tank and pour in 60ml hot water which is a full tank. This particular model heats water as well so you can add room temperature water too.

Prep the ground coffee basket – Open the capsule filter. Add one scoop of finely ground espresso coffee. In the video, I used a medium to coarse pourover grind (Which Didn’t Give Me That Rich Crema), but it still tasted smooth and pleasant. Just don’t tamp it down too hard as light pressure works best.

Assemble the filter – Fit the Coffee Ground Basket into the filter and then Screw the filter into the base of the device, making sure it’s secure.

Brew – If you’ve poured in Hot Water in the tank then press the on button and immediately press the button twice to go into heating mode and then press and hold the button for about 2-3 seconds until it beeps. The machine will immediately start the brewing process, and within seconds, you’ll hear a satisfying gurgle. Coffee slowly drips into the detachable coffee cup below.

If you’ve poured in room temperature water press the on button and then immediately press the button twice to activate the heating mode, here you’re water will begin to heat (Which Is Around 5 Minutes) and come to the right temperature and when it’s ready it will automatically begin the brewing process.

Sip & reset – Carefully unscrew the filter and rinse all parts. The spent grounds can be composted (Which I Do), and you’re good to go again.

Using Capsule Coffee Pods

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Insert capsule – Instead of using the ground coffee basket, place a Nespresso-compatible capsule into the capsule filter.

Since I don’t use capsule based coffee I currently don't have one to demonstrate.

Puncture setup – Secure the capsule filter onto the device and align it with the capsule puncture needle.

Add water – Fill the water tank with hot or room temperature water.

Brew – Same as above. press the on button and immediately press the button twice to go into heating mode and then press and hold the button for about 2-3 seconds until it beeps. The machine will immediately start the brewing process

Capsule mode is perfect when you’re on the go or don’t want to deal with clean up. I tried a hazelnut flavoured capsule on a train journey once and it genuinely shocked a fellow passenger who didn’t believe such a thing was possible without electricity or a plug point.

Let’s Talk About Performance

What impressed me most ? Consistency. Even when I used sub optimal coffee grounds, the machine extracted a decent espresso. It won’t match a pro grade espresso machine, but it’s easily better than most automated dispensers I’ve tried in hotel rooms.

The battery life is another win — I got about 3-4 uses from one full charge using ground coffee with hot water. If the machine needs to heat the water from cold/room temperature, battery life drops a bit faster and you’ll get to brew about 2 cups.

Design Details I Love

Portability: It fits in a cars cup holder! Enough said.

Battery Indicator: Those small LED dots saved me from a caffeine-less hike.

No Leaks: I tossed it into my bag more than once and no mess whatsoever!

Quirks You Should Know

The Needle Is Sharp – Be careful when cleaning the capsule puncture needle. I pricked my finger once while daydreaming about @yugadi 🫣😂

Cleaning Matters – If you’re using ground coffee, clean the basket thoroughly or you’ll get bitter tasting coffee in the next round.

Anecdotes from the Road

Espresso in the Hills: I took the machine on a road trip to Coorg and brewed a quick espresso at sunrise while sitting on a friends Jeep bumper. The silence, the mist, and that rich espresso shot and that definitely goes into my top 3 coffee moments of my life.

Office Hack: Once, our office machine broke down and I whipped this out during a 3 PM slump. Suddenly, I had six people in line behind me. My now Ex-boss thinks I’m some kind of espresso whisperer.

Final Thoughts

This little no name espresso maker has unexpectedly become one of my most used gadgets. It’s not perfect, it won’t replace your high end machine or give you latte art (Maybe It Will, I Just Personally Suck At It) but it does one thing extremely well: deliver a decent good shot of espresso wherever you are.

If you travel often, camp, work remotely, or just want the freedom to have espresso anytime, this is an excellent investment. Sure, I wish I knew the brand so I could recommend it by name. But maybe that’s part of the charm, a coffee secret you only share with people who really care.

You have various brands that have a similar machine and one such brand that I would recommend in India at least would be Coffeza

P.S. The video in this post shows exactly how I used it, and you’ll notice the coffee I used was more suited for pourover. So if you’re serious about espresso shots, go for a finer grind. But if you’re like me and sometimes just want a solid cup wherever you are, this machine won’t let you down.

@alstonsjournal had one job! to suggest a decent place to eat. And oh did he came through 🤤 It was his idea to hit up Frazer Town’s legendary Ramadan food street, and after some debate over whether we should brace ourselves for weekend crowds, we wisely picked a Friday. The logic? Weekdays should be less crowded. The reality? Frazer Town on a Ramadan Friday is still packed, but at least we weren’t elbowing our way through a sea of hungry Bangaloreans.

So there we were, me, Yugadi, Alston, Fiona and Adil standing under the bright neon glow of food stalls at 7 PM, ready to do what we do best: eat like there’s no tomorrow. For the next two hours, we drowned in flavors, destroyed our diets, and probably took years off our lifespan with the sheer volume of food we inhaled. And honestly? Zero regrets.

The Coolest Welcome – Mohabbath ka Sharbath & More

You know you’re in for a good time when your night starts with a drink called Mohabbath ka Sharbath. If love had a flavor, I’d say this was pretty close. This drink is basically watermelon chunks, chia seeds & nuts swimming in a chilled, rose flavoured milky concoction, topped with little bits of heaven. Okay, not heaven almonds, but close enough. It’s sweet, refreshing, and exactly what you need before diving into a meat heavy food coma.

We also tried the Pista Falooda, a creamy, nutty dessert drink hybrid that somehow manages to be a drink, a snack, and a meal all at once. It had the classic falooda noodles, sabja seeds, and a heavy dose of nostalgia. But the real surprise? The Mango Cocktail from Karama Stall! a thick, mango loaded drink that was dangerously addictive. It was so good that we had to actively stop ourselves from chugging it down in one go.

Zayan’s Kebab Corner – Rolls That Deserve a Standing Ovation

If Frazer Town had a Hall of Fame for kebabs, Zayan’s Kebab Corner would be inducted on day one. Their Seekh Roll was a revelation juicy minced meat wrapped in a soft, buttery rumali naan, spiced just right so that you get heat without setting your taste buds on fire. And then came the Seekh Jumbo Roll, which is exactly what it sounds like a monstrous, meat loaded version of the already perfect seekh roll.

You know a roll is great when everyone at the table goes completely silent while eating it. No small talk, no jokes just the occasional nod of approval and that satisfied look of “I need five more of these.”

Beef Parota & Beef Phal – The Unsung Heroes

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we stumbled upon a tiny stall serving Beef Parota and Beef Phal. Now, let me tell you this was hands down one of the best things we ate that night.

The Stuffed Beef Parota was a masterclass in how flaky, crispy, and buttery a parota should be. The beef was slow cooked to perfection, fall apart tender, and packed with bold flavours that clung to the parota like they were meant to be together. It was the kind of food that makes you forget all about table manners.

And then there was Beef Phal. If you’ve never had it, imagine tender beef chunks simmered in a thick, spicy, and slightly tangy gravy that makes your taste buds dance. The depth of flavour in this dish was unreal!!! it was like every bite told a story, and that story was, “You’re going to need a nap after this.”

Dessert Detour – A Sweet Goodbye at Charminar

After inhaling our body weight in kebabs and curries, we took a short walk (A Desperate Attempt To Create Space For Dessert 🤣) to Charminar down Mosque Road. This was where the real magic happened.

First up, Badam Pudding. This was the dessert of the night rich, nutty, perfectly sweet, and smooth like butter. If I could eat this every day without consequences, I absolutely would.

Then came the Matkha Phirni, thick, creamy, slow cooked to perfection, and served in a traditional earthen pot that somehow made it taste even better. But the real star? Dal Kheer. Who knew lentils could be transformed into something so irresistibly sweet and comforting? We took a spoonful, looked at each other, and just nodded in silent appreciation. This was it. This was dessert nirvana and @yugadi absolutely loved this! (Desserts Were The Only Thing She Could Have Had Sadly Being A Vegetarian 🥹)

The Final Bites – Beef Samosas & One Last Round of Mohabbath

As we were about to leave, we walked past Taj Hotel and caught a whiff of something gloriously deep fried. Turns out, it was beef samosas, and obviously, we had no choice but to get some.

These were not your average samosas. They were crispy, packed with flavorful beef filling, and dangerously addictive. It was the kind of snack where you say, “I’ll just have one,” and then suddenly, you’re three deep with no regrets. We even had a delicious Shawarma at the same place that’s pretty much the same we get in Mangalore.

And then, just when we thought we were done, we did what any sane person would do! we went back for another round of Mohabbath ka Sharbath. Because when a drink is that perfect, you don’t just have it once. You double down.

Why Frazer Town’s Ramadan Food Street Wins Over Koramangala

I know Koramangala has its fans, but let’s be real! Frazer Town is in a different league. The food here isn’t just about trendy Instagram pictures; it’s about generations of culinary tradition served with zero pretension. The flavors are deeper, the meats are juicier, and every bite tastes like it was made with love and a secret spice mix passed down for centuries.

Plus, the energy is unbeatable. It’s chaotic but in the best way possible. You’ll hear vendors calling out, grills sizzling, and happy people bonding over plates of food that taste like home. Koramangala? It’s great for cafes, sure. But when it comes to Ramadan food, it doesn’t even come close.

Final Thoughts – Get Yourself to Frazer Town, ASAP

If you’ve never been to Frazer Town’s food street during Ramadan, you’re seriously missing out. This isn’t just a place to eat, it’s an experience. It’s loud, it’s lively, it’s deliciously messy, and it’s the kind of food coma you’ll happily sign up for.

So grab your hungriest friends, loosen your belt, and dive headfirst into this food paradise. Just don’t blame me when you find yourself making a second trip for that Mohabbath ka Sharbath.

We had booked this experience through Airbnb Experiences, and the itinerary looked packed with history, scenic landscapes, and a bit of adventure.

An Early Start & Meeting ‘Happy’

The day started bright and early since the tour began at 7:30 AM sharp. We set our alarms for 6 AM, groggily woke up, freshened up, and grabbed a quick breakfast from Circle-K, nothing fancy, just something light to hold us over until lunchtime.

By 7:30 AM, we were waiting in the lobby of our hostel, bags packed and ready to go. That’s when a super energetic guy walked in with a big smile and called out our names. Turns out, his name was literally Happy, and he was our tour guide for the day. He was excited to see us, and his energy was infectious.

He led us to the limousine tour bus, where we settled in before making a few more stops to pick up other travellers joining us for the trip.

A Quick Stop at a Tourist Trap

Before reaching our first destination, we made a quick pitstop at a place called the Centre for Preserving and Developing Traditional Handicraft Villages in Vietnam. Sounds fancy, right? It was basically a place selling overpriced souvenirs to tourists. Everything here was ridiculously expensive, at least twice the price of what you’d find in Hanoi. While some people grabbed snacks and used the restroom, we just walked around, amused at how blatantly touristy the place was.

Exploring the Ancient Capital - Hoa Lu

Our first proper stop was Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam in the 10th century. Here, we visited a temple dedicated to King Dinh (Pronounced As Ding) who played crucial roles in Vietnamese history, especially in the wars against the Chinese. This temple isn’t just a religious site, it’s a crucial part of Vietnam’s early history, marking the country’s transition into an independent nation after centuries of Chinese rule.

Built in the 17th century, the temple stands at the foot of Ma Yen Mountain, where legend says King Dinh was buried. The entrance is marked by a beautiful three arched gate, leading to courtyards filled with ancient stone dragon statues.

Inside, you’ll find a wooden altar with a golden statue of King Dinh, surrounded by intricate carvings of dragons, clouds, and phoenixes symbols of royalty and power in Vietnamese culture. The incense filled air and the quiet, historical setting make this temple feel both sacred and significant.

The temples had that old world charm, with intricate carvings, red pillars, and traditional architecture. The place felt peaceful despite the number of tourists around. Happy, our guide, gave us a quick history lesson, though I’ll be honest I was more focused on taking in the surroundings 🫣

Close to the temple, we also visited Nen Cung Dien Dinh-Le, the ancient palace grounds of the Dinh and Le dynasties. Although only stone foundations and scattered ruins remain, this site was once the heart of imperial Vietnam, housing the royal court. Walking among the remnants, it was easy to imagine the grandeur that once stood here. The site, while weathered by time, still holds immense historical significance, marking the birthplace of Vietnam’s first independent empire.

After Hoa Lu, we had 45 minutes of cycling through the village, which turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the trip. The route was absolutely serene, we passed through endless paddy fields, small houses, and towering karst mountains in the background.

But here’s the thing: @yugadi doesn’t know how to cycle. So, while the rest of us took our bikes and rode through the countryside, she and another guest decided to skip the ride and head directly to the lunch spot to wait for us.

The cycling itself wasn’t difficult, just a few bumps on the road but the fresh air and quiet village life made it such a peaceful experience.

By the time we reached the restaurant, I was starving. Lunch was a buffet, and there was a lot to eat. Variety of meat, fish, fried rice, desserts, fresh cut fruits and vegetarian options for those who needed it.

The food was simple but filling, nothing extraordinary, but definitely good enough after all that cycling. Yugadi was already waiting for me at the table, and we dug in while chatting with some of the other people in our group.

After lunch, we headed to Trang An, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 (This Place Was 15-20 Minutes Away From The Temple). The landscape here is stunning!!! massive limestone karsts, lush greenery, and an intricate system of caves that we were about to explore by boat.

We were joined by another Indian couple who were from Kerala on our boat, which made for great company. The ride was about two hours long, and the views were incredible, floating through dark caves, emerging into bright open waters, and being surrounded by towering mountains.

We even stopped mid way to visit another temple and i’m not sure what temple this was since Happy wasn’t accompanying us on the ride but it was quite pretty, we also took a moment to stretch our legs after the long boat ride.

Fun Fact: Trang An was a filming location for Kong: Skull Island (2016). Seeing it in person, I could totally understand why. The place had this otherworldly feel to it.

The only downside ? There were hundreds of other boats doing the same thing, so while it was peaceful, it wasn’t exactly quiet.

The Final Challenge – Climbing Mua Cave

Our last stop was Mua Cave, or as some call it, Dancing Cave. But the real attraction here isn’t the cave itself, it’s the 500 steep steps leading up to the Lying Dragon Mountain, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Tam Coc.

Now, 500 steps might not sound like a lot, but trust me, this climb was no joke. The stairs were quite steep, and halfway through, I was already regretting my life choices 😂 We had to take multiple breaks, just standing by the railing, pretending to admire the view when in reality, we just needed to catch our breath.

<img src="https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-

The higher we climbed, the more crowded it got. By the time we reached the top, there were people everywhere, all trying to get the perfect Instagram shot. But despite the crowd, the view was 100% worth it, endless rice fields, winding rivers, and rugged limestone peaks stretching out in every direction.

There was still another section to climb which was the one that leads up to the Dragon Statue. At this point, Yugadi decided to stay back while I made my final ascent alone. And wow, the last bit was scary and more chaotic, but standing up there, with the wind blowing and the whole valley beneath me, was an epic moment.

Turns out only I went up to the peak from the entire group 😂

The Journey Back & A Surprise Drag Show

After climbing down and getting back on the bus, we were exhausted. The journey back to Hanoi took about three hours, but honestly, we slept the entire way 😴
My legs gave up on me.

Once back at the hostel, we freshened up quickly and decided to check out the drag show happening at our Hostel (Mad Monkey Hostel). Turns out, every Thursday, they host a drag show, and this was my first time attending one.

And let me tell you, it was phenomenal!! 😂 The performances were hilarious, entertaining, and super fun. To top it off, they had a Buy One Get One offer on drinks, so we grabbed Long Island Iced Teas and enjoyed the night.

After the show, we wrapped up the night by grabbing dinner from Circle-K, because at this point, we were too tired to go anywhere else.

Final Thoughts on Ninh Binh

This day trip was one of the best experiences in Vietnam. From cycling through villages and boating through caves to climbing to the top of Mua Cave, everything felt like a perfect mix of adventure and scenery.

Would I recommend this trip? Absolutely. Just be prepared for the climb, and if you’re visiting Trang An, know that you’ll be sharing the experience with a lot of other tourists. But apart from that, Ninh Binh is 100% worth visiting.

And hey, if you ever find yourself at Mad Monkey Hostel on a Thursday, don’t miss the Drag Show! it’s the perfect way to end a long day.

The only way for her to get home was to take a train from Chennai to Bangalore and then catch an overnight bus to Nippani. With quite a bit of luggage, she needed help moving everything, and well I wasn’t going to let her travel alone either ways. My plan was to help her shift things to Bangalore, and from there, she would continue on her own to Nippani, while I had to return to Chennai. Since I had to make the return trip anyway, I figured, why not try the Vande Bharat Express 🚆 ?

For anyone who has taken a regular sleeper train between Bangalore and Chennai, you know it takes around 6 to 7 hours. But the Vande Bharat Express covers the same distance in just 4 hours and 30 minutes, making it one of the fastest train options available on this route. Given that I usually travel by the standard trains, I was quite curious to see how this premium service compared.

Ticket Pricing and Booking

The price difference between a regular train and the Vande Bharat is significant. A sleeper class ticket on a Non AC train costs around Rs 235, while a ticket for the AC Chair Car in the Vande Bharat Express is Rs 955. If you opt for the Executive Chair Car, the fare goes up to around Rs 1,650. While the price is definitely on the higher side compared to regular trains, it comes with added benefits like a faster journey, improved comfort, and onboard meals.

Booking tickets for the Vande Bharat Express is straightforward and can be done online through the IRCTC website or mobile app (I Usually Book Mine Via PAYTM). Given its popularity, seats can fill up fast, so it’s a good idea to book in advance.

My Travel Experience

My train was scheduled for departure at 14:50 from KSR Bangalore Station, and I was set to reach Chennai at 19:20. As soon as I reached the station, I could tell this wasn’t like my usual train journeys. The platform had a different vibe, with people clicking pictures of the sleek looking blue and white train. The Vande Bharat Express is designed to look more modern than typical Indian trains, and it surely does stands out.

Boarding the train was a breeze. Unlike older trains, the Vande Bharat has automated doors that open and close smoothly. Inside, the train is spacious, with comfortable push back seats, similar to what you’d find in a premium bus or a flight. The overhead luggage storage is convenient and well designed, ensuring that even passengers with larger bags can stow them away easily.

Comfort and Cleanliness

One of the biggest complaints about Indian Railways is often the cleanliness of trains, but the Vande Bharat Express completely changes that perception. The interiors were spotless, and the washrooms were well maintained! something that is quite rare in most Indian trains. The entire setup felt more like an airplane cabin than a train.

The seats are wide and cushioned, with ample legroom, making the journey far more comfortable than a regular train. Each seat has a tray table, which comes in handy when eating meals or working on a laptop. Plus each seat has a charging point under the seat (You Have To Bend Quite A Bit To Get There Though 😂) ensuring you don’t have to worry about your phone battery running out mid journey whereas regular trains only have 3-4 points for each section of 8 people 🥲

Meals and Snacks

One of the things I didn’t realize about the Vande Bharat Express was that it includes meals depending on the duration of your travel. This was a pleasant surprise. Shortly after departure, the staff served snacks, including a cup of tea/coffee, biscuits, and a small packet of muffin, popcorn, cream bun and bhujia. The food quality was decent, nothing extraordinary, but much better than what you usually get on regular trains which are charged extra. The service was prompt, and the staff was courteous.

Speed and Smooth Ride

The train runs at an average speed of around 130 km/h and can go up to 160 km/h on certain stretches. This makes it significantly faster than other trains on this route. Despite the high speed, the ride was smooth, with very little noise or jerking. You can easily read a book, work on a laptop, or even nap without being disturbed by the usual clanking and shaking of train compartments.

Stops and Route

The 20608 MAS Vande Bharat Express starts from Mysore and has only two stops before reaching Chennai:

KSR Bengaluru

Katpadi Junction (a major stop for people traveling to Vellore)

Since it has limited stops, the train maintains a high speed throughout the journey. This is one of the reasons why it manages to complete the trip in just 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Why Choose Vande Bharat Express?

After experiencing this journey, I can say that the Vande Bharat Express is ideal for those who prioritize comfort, speed, and convenience. Here’s why it stands out:

Faster Travel – If you need to get between Bangalore and Chennai quickly, this is the best train option available.

Better Comfort – Spacious seats, clean washrooms, and a well maintained cabin make the journey much more pleasant than regular trains.

Onboard Meals – The inclusion of snacks and meals is a nice touch, making the journey hassle free.

Modern Facilities – Automated doors, clean interiors, and well-designed seating make it feel more like a flight than a train ride.

Reliable Service – The train is punctual, and with limited stops, there’s little chance of delays.

While the price is definitely higher than regular trains, the Vande Bharat Express justifies the cost with its speed, cleanliness, and overall travel experience. If you are someone who frequently travels between Bangalore and Chennai and doesn’t mind spending a bit more for comfort, this train is absolutely worth it.

For me, the journey was smooth, quick, and comfortable far better than the usual long and tiring train rides. I can definitely see myself choosing the Vande Bharat again for future trips. If you haven’t tried it yet and are looking for a hassle free train journey, I’d highly recommend giving it a shot!

At that moment, I knew I had to buy the tickets. The GA (General Access) Weekend Pass cost me Rs 10,000 ($ 115), which was definitely expensive, but missing Green Day was not an option. This 2 day music festival featured a mix of international and local artists, and besides Green Day, there were a few more artists I was really looking forward to. The festival took place on March 8th and 9th, and it was, without a doubt, the best music festival I have ever attended 🔥

Back in December, I booked my train tickets from Chennai to Mumbai and back for the 21 hour journey. But as of January, I still hadn’t booked my stay in Mumbai, and to make matters worse, that was also the month I got laid off from work. Terrible timing, considering I was already spending so much on this trip. Cash was tight, but I somehow managed to book a great hostel that was about a 45 minute journey from the festival venue. I stayed at Ostello Mumbai Airport Hostel, which cost just Rs 600 per night and I booked it via Hostel World, a great deal, especially since it was close to the airport (Not That It Mattered To Me Since I Was Travelling By Train)

Traveling solo to a music festival can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you don’t know anyone there. So, I decided to take my chances on the Lolla India community on Reddit, just to see if I could find some company. That’s when I got a DM from someone saying, "We have a WhatsApp group filled with people like you, some going solo, some with friends and you're more than welcome to join." I joined the group, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I made. The people there were incredibly helpful, especially those from Mumbai. Any question whether it was about transportation, train routes, or just general festival tips was met with quick, positive responses. It was really cool to see how a bunch of strangers came together just to help each other out. It made my Lollapalooza experience even better, knowing there was a community of like minded people I could rely on.

I left Chennai on March 6th and reached Mumbai on the 7th at around 5 PM. From the station, I took an auto to the hostel and spent the rest of the evening just relaxing and watching a series called ’Dil Dosti Dilemma’ it’s a Hindi Series on Amazon Prime.

The next day, the festival was finally here. I left the hostel and booked a auto ride to Andheri railway station. From there, I took a local train to Mahalaxmi station, which was just a 5 minute walk to the venue. Mumbai's local train system is incredibly well connected, and this was by far the cheapest way to get to the venue. A return ticket cost me just Rs 20, and I booked it at the kiosk at the station itself.

The festival gates opened at 2 PM sharp, but I completely miscalculated my timing and ended up reaching the venue at 11 AM (Way Too Early). With nothing to do, I walked to the nearest Starbucks, about 20 minutes away, and chilled there until 1:30 PM before heading back. Mumbai was scorching hot at 32°C, but there was a bit of wind, making it somewhat bearable. To my surprise, a lot of people had already gathered at the venue by 2 PM, despite the sun blazing down on us.

Every Artist Circled In Red Are Performances That I Planned To Attend

Day 1 had 17 artists performing across 4 stages, so I had to plan in advance. The first performance I attended was Frizzell D’Souza at the Keep Walking Stage. She performed her beautiful indie acoustic songs, including "Symmetries," "Foolish Once Again," and "Drown Away." Her voice was magical, and it was the perfect way to ease into the festival and this was my 2nd time seeing her perform LIVE (I Have Been Following Her Journey Since The Start, We Come From The Same Place Basically Which Is Mangalore In Karnataka).

After that, I moved over to the Corona Sunsets Stage to catch Sid Vashi. His performance was a fusion of jazz, electronic, and Indian classical music. He played some of his most popular tracks and some new tunes as well, it was mostly new and the energy of the crowd was unreal.

After Sid Vashi’s set, I took a break to explore other parts of the festival. The venue had multiple experience zones, brand activations, and tons of food stalls. I wandered around, soaking in the atmosphere, and then made my way back to the Keep Walking Stage for Lullanas. Their folk infused set was absolutely mesmerising. They played "Butterflies In Reverse," and "Memphis" (Picked These Up After The Festival And Now i Listen To It On Repeat) and it felt like everyone in the crowd knew the lyrics by heart (Except For Me 😂).

Next up was Isabel LaRosa, and she completely killed it. Her energy on stage was insane, and she sang all her popular tracks, including "Favourite," "More Than Friends" and "Eyes Don't Lie." The way the crowd reacted to her performance was electric. Since I had a long break after her set, I decided to grab a Corona beer which an expensive refreshing mistake 🥲. It was extremely overpriced, but at that moment, I just needed something cold.

I then checked out the H&M Experience Zone, where they were giving away free merchandise. I picked up a calligraphy note written on a vinyl-shaped cardboard and also got a free T-shirt (only for H&M members).

Then, I headed to the RuPay Experience Zone, which was a lifesaver. If you had a RuPay credit card, you got a free 15-minute foot massage, and after all the walking, I desperately needed it. Another perk was access to the mezzanine for an hour, which I made full use of later in the evening.

As the sun began to set, I climbed up to the mezzanine zone, found a beanbag, and chilled while watching Jonita Gandhi perform (She Opened For Shawn Mendes). She was absolutely brilliant, singing a mix of her Bollywood hits and independent tracks like "What Jhumka" and "Sitara," Her voice live was just as incredible as in the studio recordings.

Then, it was time for one of my most anticipated performances of the day!!! Glass Animals at the Keep Walking Stage. The crowd went wild when they started playing "Heat Waves," and I swear, everyone was screaming along. They also performed "Gooey," "Tokyo Drifting," and "Space Ghost," making it one of the best sets of the day. Unfortunately, at the same time, Cory Wong was performing at the Nexa Stage, but I had to make a tough call and stick with Glass Animals.

Right after their set, I rushed over to the Corona Sunsets Stage because it was time for the first headliner of the night which was Shawn Mendes 🥹. At exactly 9 PM, he walked onto the stage, and the crowd erupted. He sang all his major hits: "Stitches," "Treat You Better," "Mercy," "There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back," and "Senorita." The atmosphere was electric, and seeing him perform live in India for the first time was surreal. At the same time, Zedd was performing at the Perry’s x H&M Stage. I was torn, but since Zedd comes to India quite often, I decided to stick with Shawn Mendes. However, I still made it to Zedd’s set midway and caught him dropping bangers like "Clarity," "Stay the Night," and "The Middle." The production value of his set was totally insane! lights, visuals, everything was top notch.

As the clock struck 10, both Shawn Mendes and Zedd ended their sets with a massive firework display. I had already positioned myself back at the H&M Experience Zone, which had an elevated view, and the moment I got up there, fireworks exploded over Shawn Mendes’s stage. It was absolutely stunning, and I managed to capture it all on video. Surprisingly, this firework display was even better than the one Coldplay had in Ahmedabad, way more spectacular it was.

When the festival ended for the night, I had to make my way back to Mahalaxmi station, which was packed with festival goers. Getting onto the train was chaotic, but somehow, I made it. Once I reached Andheri, I took an auto back to the hostel. The first day of Lollapalooza was officially over. I was dusty, exhausted, and covered in sweat, but it was hands down one of the best days of my life.

The only thing that would have made it better was having @yugadi with me. She couldn’t make it, and I really wished she had been there to experience it all. But even though I went alone, this was an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait to write about Day 2 next.

It was a chilly morning, and on top of that, we had the AC blasting on full speed in the dorm. I managed to wake up early and freshen up, and once I was done, I woke up @yugadi (She Loves Her Beauty Sleep A Little More Than Me, Haha)

Our first stop for the day was Tranquil Books & Cafe for breakfast. It was slightly foggy and drizzling as we made our way to the parking lot to pick up a scooter. I had already done my research in advance and knew how gorgeous this place was. Once we reached the location, we had to go through a small, narrow alley, and then suddenly, the cafe revealed itself. And let me tell you pictures don't do justice to this place! The first thing that caught my eye was a huge bookshelf stretching all the way to the ceiling, packed with books in different languages. It was a cozy little spot, warm and peaceful, with a lovely piano adding to the charm.

The cafe mainly serves light food and a decent range of beverages, which was perfect for us. I ordered their Iced Sunny Kombucha and a smoked goose sandwich. The kombucha had this refreshing citrusy zing, slightly tangy but balanced out with a natural sweetness. It was light, fizzy, and perfect for the weather. The smoked goose sandwich, on the other hand, was phenomenal. The bread was crisp on the outside yet soft inside, and the smoked goose had this rich, slightly gamey flavor, perfectly complemented by a creamy, tangy spread and fresh greens.

Yugadi had the hot citrus punch, a comforting blend of zesty lemon and honey, warming her up instantly. She paired it with a shakshuka, which was hands down one of the best we’ve had. The eggs were poached perfectly in a rich, mildly spiced tomato sauce, and it came with crusty bread to soak it all up. Everything we had was absolutely lip smacking, and to top it off, the whole meal cost just 305,000 VND ($11.95) which was an absolute steal for such a wholesome breakfast!

After breakfast, we decided to visit Grand World, which was about 20 km from the cafe. The scooter ride took us roughly 45 minutes. Now, here’s the thing, I didn’t have an international driving license, which is technically mandatory in Vietnam. I had tried to get one before the trip, but the process was complicated, requiring me to apply from the address on my passport, which wasn’t an option at that moment. So, I decided to wing it. From what I’d heard, as long as you follow traffic rules, the cops usually don’t stop you unless you give them a reason to.

Grand World turned out to be a massive tourist attraction, but honestly, it wasn’t really my vibe. However, I did take a ton of pictures of Yugadi because the place was beautifully done, especially Venice Town. The replica of Venice had gondola rides, complete with narrow canals and colorful European-style buildings. We didn’t take the gondola ride, but it was still fun to see. Then there was K-Town, designed to look like a vibrant Korean street, with lots of neon lights, K-pop-themed stores, and restaurants serving Korean food. We spent about an hour or two just wandering around, taking in the sights, and then decided to head back to the Old Quarter for lunch which was another 45 minute scooter ride back.

For lunch, we hit up Banh Mi 25, an iconic spot for Banh Mi’s in Hanoi. I had discovered this place on my last trip to Hanoi in 2023 and was blown away. I must have visited 4-5 times back then, and even on this trip, I came here at least 3-4 times, sometimes just to grab a takeaway. This place just knows how to make an incredible Banh Mi! For lunch, we had the barbecue pork and smoked sausage banh mi, and the vegan meatloaf and avocado banh mi. The baguettes were ridiculously crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, just how they should be. The barbecue pork had a smoky, slightly sweet glaze, perfectly balanced with pickled vegetables, fresh herbs, and a slather of creamy pâté. The smoked sausage one had this deep, garlicky flavor, and it paired beautifully with the tangy crunch of pickled carrots and daikon. The vegan meatloaf banh mi was surprisingly good too (Well For Me At Least, She Didn’t Like It 🥹) soft yet packed with umami flavours, and the avocado added a creamy, buttery texture. But the real star? The avocado shake. This was thick, luscious, and tasted like a dessert in itself. Creamy, slightly sweet, with just the right balance of richness, it was heaven in a cup.

After that satisfying meal, we were exhausted from all the walking, so we headed back to the hostel for a short nap. Post nap, we made our way to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre for the 4:10 pm show. We managed to snag two front row tickets, each costing 200,000 VND per person. The show lasted an hour, and honestly, it was one of the most unique experiences in Hanoi.

Water puppetry is an ancient Vietnamese art form, and watching it live was incredible. The stage was basically a water tank, and the puppeteers, hidden behind a screen, controlled the wooden puppets using long rods. The show was accompanied by live traditional music, featuring instruments like the đàn bầu (monochord) and bamboo flutes. The puppets depicted different folk tales, rural life, and legends, with scenes of rice farming, buffalo herding, and even a dramatic battle with a fire-breathing dragons ! It was fascinating to watch these puppets move so seamlessly over the water, and even though we didn’t understand the Vietnamese narration, the visuals and music made it engaging (Weirdly I Dozed Off For About 15 Minutes 😂)

After the show, we headed to Note Coffee, a quirky little café covered entirely in sticky notes from visitors worldwide. I had been here before and wanted to take Yugadi for the experience. It’s a fun place, though more of a tourist attraction than a serious coffee spot. The food isn’t great, but you go for the vibe. We grabbed a drink, found a cozy corner on the top floor, and admired the stunning view of Hoan Kiem Lake. We spent about 30-40 minutes there, reading some of the notes people had left behind and we left a note behind as well before moving on.

Next up, we booked tickets for the Hanoi Tour Bus, a hop on hop off ride that takes you around the city. Our tickets were for the next bus, about 30 minutes later. This was a fun way to explore Hanoi without walking and also get a brief history of the city. The tour lasted an hour, taking us past major landmarks, with an audio guide providing information in different languages. Each seat had a headphone jack where you could plug in the provided headphones and select your preferred language. The whole experience cost 150,000 VND per person.

Now, here’s where the day got really interesting! For dinner, we went back to the same eatery we visited on Day 1. I ordered fried squid with garlic, and Yugadi got a big bowl of pho. The squid was crunchy, fragrant, and packed with flavor, while the pho was hearty, filled with aromatic broth, veggies , and fresh herbs. But as we were enjoying our meal, something unexpected happened. Two men with a huge boombox walked up to an eatery across from us and blasted loud music. Then, they started performing crazy street stunts in the middle of the packed street 😂🤌🏼 fire breathing, sword swallowing, hammering nails into their nosesit was insane! Disgusting? Absolutely. Cool? HELL YES. It was the ultimate Hanoi roadside experience, and we couldn’t have asked for a better end to the night.

The menu looked promising, and we dived right in, trying a bit of everything. Some dishes blew us away, some were just good, and one left us scratching our heads. Here’s the full breakdown of what we ate and how it all went down.

Mojo Pork Carnitas - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)

This was hands down the best dish of the night. The pork was insanely juicy, cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. It had that perfect balance of smokiness and spice, making it impossible to stop eating. In fact, we loved it so much that we ordered it twice 🫣, which should tell you everything you need to know. If you visit Mexarosa, this is a must order.

Paneer El Pastor - Rs 525 ($ 6.05)

Yugadi picked this one, and honestly, it was a great choice! The paneer was incredibly fresh, soft, and packed with flavors that made every bite a delight. But if you ask me whether it tasted Mexican ? well, that’s up for debate. The flavors leaned heavily towards Indian spices, making it feel more like a fusion dish rather than something straight out of a taqueria. That said, it was delicious, and we had zero complaints.

Lamb Birria - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)

Another absolute winner. The lamb was incredibly tender and soaked in deep, rich flavors that made every bite a treat. We literally finished this in under five minutes ! no exaggeration. The chefs at Mexarosa clearly know what they’re doing because this dish was executed flawlessly. If you’re a fan of birria, you’re going to love this.

Enchiladas Chipotle Chicken - Rs 625 ($ 7.20)

This one was a heavy hitter. Rich, bold, and full of smoky chipotle flavors, the enchiladas weren’t just tasty, they packed a serious punch. If you’re someone who enjoys intense flavors and a good dose of spice, this one’s right up your alley. Just be prepared it’s on the heavier side, so don’t expect something light and fresh.

Mexarosa Chicken Bites - Rs 545 ($ 6.28)

If you’re into fiery, spicy food, these chicken bites will hit the spot. They were hot like, properly spicy but they were also incredibly tasty. Every bite had this addictive crunch, and the heat just built up with each one. If you love a good kick, go for it. Just be ready for the burn! 😂🤌🏼

El Tesoro - Rs 895 ($ 10.31)

Mexarosa’s cocktail menu looked insanely spectacular , so we figured we had to try at least one. We went with El Tesoro, and at first, it was nice smooth, balanced, and pretty enjoyable. But after a while, it started to taste a bit like Benadryl, which was weird. Maybe it was just our taste buds playing tricks on us, but it wasn’t something we’d order again for sure.

Churros Rs 395 ($ 4.55)

Now, this was the only real disappointment of the night. After such an incredible lineup of savory dishes, we had high hopes for dessert, but the churros just didn’t hit the mark. They were pretty average, nothing special, and definitely not something we’d go back for. If you’re looking for a sweet ending, you might want to skip this and stick to the mains. This was so bad that I didn’t even bother to take a picture of it 😕

Mexarosa absolutely nailed the savory dishes, especially the pork carnitas and lamb birria. The flavours were bold, the ingredients fresh, and the execution top notch. While not every dish screamed “Mexican” in the traditional sense, the food was still pretty damn good. The churros were a letdown, and the cocktail was hit or miss, but overall, it was a fantastic meal. Would I go here again ? HECK YEAH I WILL ! If you’re in Hyderabad and craving some seriously good food, Mexarosa is definitely worth a visit.

This time, it was different, I wasn’t travelling solo or with a friend instead I was traveling with @yugadi, my girlfriend, and it was her first international trip. Naturally, I took it upon myself to plan everything, down to the tiniest details, using Wanderlog. I swear by the free version of the app. It’s a no nonsense, easy to use trip planner that works like a charm. I didn’t feel the need for anything else, why complicate things when this gets the job done?

We took a late night flight on February 18th at 11:30 PM from Chennai, with a layover at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. Just as we cleared security and settled near our departure gate, we got the notification that our flight was delayed by an hour. Not the best news when you're already running on excitement and a bit of exhaustion 🥲, but at least we weren’t rushing it.

We found a quiet spot, scrolled through our phones, and grabbed a quick bite while waiting. The airport was buzzing even at that hour, with travellers sprawled across chairs, some half asleep, others pacing around. Yugadi wasn’t too thrilled about the wait, but I saw it as just another part of the journey, after all, what’s a trip without a few unexpected delays ?

Eventually, we boarded, and after a 3 hour layover at Don Mueang, which gave us just enough time to stretch our legs and grab another quick bite, we caught our next flight to Hanoi. By the time we landed in Hanoi at 8:45 AM, the city welcomed us with an icy chill. Now, I absolutely love cold weather, but Yugadi ? Not so much! It was hilarious watching her struggle with the cold while I thrived in it 🫣.

Right after landing we cleared immigration which got done sooner than expected actually , picked up our luggage’s, withdrew some money from the ATM and got a Viettel Sim Card as well then we got out and grabbed a taxi via Grab, which is by far the most convenient and affordable way to get around in Vietnam. If you know how to ride a scooter, renting one is even cheaper than taking a cab, something we took full advantage of later in the day.

Our first destination was Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi. Sitting on a small island on West Lake, the pagoda is over 1,500 years old 😨. It’s one of those places that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a different era altogether. The towering pagoda, bright red against the overcast sky, reflected beautifully in the calm lake. I immediately pulled out my DSLR and started clicking away shots of the architecture, the surroundings, and of course, plenty of pictures of Yugadi.

Inside the pagoda, I helped an Indian couple in taking some lovely pictures of themselves and in return, they took some great pictures of us. I love moments like this where you randomly connect with strangers and share a tiny slice of your travel experience together.

Checking Into Mad Monkey Hostel

After exploring Tran Quoc, we booked a GRAB Taxi to Mad Monkey Hostel, our stay for the next few days. We arrived way before the check-in time, which is usually around 1 PM or 2 PM in Vietnam. Since we couldn’t check in yet, we left our luggage in the waiting area, freshened up a bit and rented a scooter directly from the hostel (got a solid deal on it), and grabbed breakfast at the hostel’s bar/kitchen. I’ll cover the hostel experience in detail in another post, but for now, let’s just say it was the perfect backpacker friendly hostel that i’ve visited so far.

Saint Joseph’s Cathedral – A Gothic Beauty

Fuelled up and ready to explore, we rode to St. Joseph’s Cathedral. Now, I had already covered all these places on my previous visit to Hanoi, but this time, I was showing Yugadi around, giving her a personalised tour of everything I had loved about the city.

St. Joseph’s Cathedral stands in stark contrast to the usual Vietnamese architecture. The moment you see it, you’re reminded of the Notre Dame in Paris, and for a good reason, it was built in the same Gothic style. Constructed in 1886, it’s one of the oldest churches in Hanoi. Massive twin bell towers, the stained glass windows, and the sheer presence of the place make it one of the most stunning spots in the city.

We wandered inside, taking in the peaceful atmosphere, and then headed right outside where there’s a Circle K store, the Vietnamese equivalent of 7-Eleven. I took Yugadi inside just to show her how amazing these convenience stores are. I personally love them ! they have everything you could possibly need, and their sandwiches and snacks are top-tier.

By the time we were done exploring, it was time to head back to the hostel for check-in. It was just a 6 minute ride away, and once we got our keys, we finally settled into our dormitory. We organised our stuff, rested for a while, and then geared up for an evening walk.

Hoan Kiem Lake & Ngoc Son Temple

As the sun set, we rode over to Hoan Kiem Lake parked out scooter and went for a walk, one of the most peaceful spots in Hanoi. The air was crisp, the lights from the nearby buildings reflected beautifully on the water, and the atmosphere was just perfect. It was a great way to unwind after all the running around we had done since the morning.

In the middle of the lake is Ngoc Son Temple, which is connected by a bright red wooden bridge. It’s one of those postcard perfect spots that feel even more magical in person. The temple is dedicated to General Tran Hung Dao, a legendary Vietnamese military leader. At night, the entire place is lit up, creating this surreal glow over the water.

Walking across the bridge and stepping into the temple felt almost cinematic Haha. The intricate carvings, the statues, and the peaceful ambiance made it a great place to just pause and soak everything in. I took some pictures here, trying to capture how the temple looked after sunset, but honestly, pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful it really is plus it wasn’t easy capturing them with a f1.8 50mm lens.

Hanoi Train Street – The Thrill of Narrow Escapes

From there, we headed to the different location of Hanoi Train Street. I had visited the old one on my previous trip, but this new one turned out to be even better. We went to Hanoi 1990 Cafe, which offers access to the tracks and a front row seat to watch the trains pass by.

The cafe had such a laid back vibe, the kind of place where you can just sit back with a beer, snack on something light, and wait for the thrill of a train rushing past inches away from you. You can even contact them on WhatsApp at +84-934050191 for train timings so you don’t waste hours waiting (Something I Wish I Had Known Last Time!)

I had a beer and a beef banh mi, while Yugadi, dealing with a persistent cough, stuck to tea. Despite not feeling her best, she absolutely loved the place. We stayed for about an hour, waiting for two trains, and the experience was phenomenal. The last time I was here (At A Different Side Of The Train Street), it was a mess 🙂 we had no idea when the train would come, no one gave us any proper information, and we ended up waiting five hours for a single train to pass. This time? Perfectly planned, perfectly timed.

Beer Street & The Best Fried Chicken Ever

For dinner, we hit up Beer Street, a lively stretch packed with restaurants, bars, and of course, an endless supply of beer (They Aren’t Free 😂 But They Are Cheap). Since this was close to our hostel, I took Yugadi to the same place I had visited last time because they had the best fried chicken I had ever eaten.

Now, I don’t remember the name of the place, but my stomach sure does. I ordered my usual, while Yugadi, being a vegetarian, went for cheese sticks. Unfortunately, Hanoi’s food scene didn’t really sit well with her, Vietnamese cuisine is heavily meat based, and finding good vegetarian options that suited her palate was a challenge. I felt bad that she wasn’t enjoying the food as much as I was, but we made do with what we could find.

Wrapping Up Day 1

After dinner, we parked the scooter in the designated parking space, walked back to the hostel, and called it a day. Day 1 in Hanoi went exactly as planned packed with places to visit, good food (for me, at least), and some incredible experiences.

Last week I was in Hyderabad in India for Ed Sheeran's Concert and on my free time I went down to True Black Specialty Coffee, This place was super minimal and to my surprise the had the Weber Workshops The EG-1 Coffee Grinder 😭 and oh was it gorgeous as ever! I even had a good breakfast and a lovely cup of Cold Brew there but more on that will be put up in the Foodies Community Haha.

Unnakki Washed Drip Bags

Tucked away in the scenic Joldal Palya region of Chikmagalur, Unakki Estate is a 100 acre paradise of lush forests, rolling hills, and pure tranquility. This is where coffee thrives under the natural shade of native trees, creating the perfect environment for Arabica varieties like Chandragiri to flourish.

But coffee isn’t the only thing growing here, Unakki Estate is also home to vibrant fruit trees bearing oranges, bananas, jackfruits, avocados, and pomegranates, along with bold, aromatic pepper vines. These diverse crops don’t just add life to the land, they subtly infuse the coffee with natural sweetness and fruity undertones, making each cup a little more special.

Roast Profile: Omni Roast
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1220 - 1370 MASL
Varietal: Chandragiri

Tasting Notes: Cane Sugar, Apricot and Honey

Drip Bags do make a great alternate for freshly ground coffee but if you're looking to get a sense of the tasting notes, then thats not really going to happen lol 😂 i've tried drip bags before as well. They’re mellow and great but I never once could get any of the notes in.

For brewing these drip bags I use 200g of Water heated at 92°C, I start off by pouring in 100g of water and making sure it doesn’t overflow from the bag, Then I add in 50g + 50g of water and let it steep a little but not too much since I do not want to have the bitterness that comes at the end of the pour.

This was my first time doing a Voice Over Video and boy was I uncomfortable as hell 😂 and if you listen through the whole thing, you could notice the tone of my voice changing from start to end and there were a lot of gaps in the middle that I fixed in post processing. Hopefully I'll improve all this and put out a much better Voice Over video in the future. Cheers !

My friends @alstonsjournal, Fiona, and Adil flew down from Bangalore to Chennai for a weekend of catching up, good food, and of course, adventure. Knowing that they were up for trying something new, I decided to take them kayaking in the ocean, something I’d done before plenty of times but was a completely new experience for them.

We headed to Murthy Surf School on East Coast Road (ECR), a place I’d been to before and trusted to give us a solid experience. The morning was perfectsoft golden sunlight, the sound of waves crashing against the shore, and a cool breeze that hinted at the fun we were about to have. We got our kayaks, put on our life jackets, and after a quick rundown of the basics, we were off paddling into the vast blue.

For @alstonsjournal , Fiona, and Adil, this was their first time kayaking in the ocean, and it was pure chaos at the beginning 😂. Their paddles clashed, waves rocked their kayaks, and there was a lot of shouting and laughing as they tried to find their rhythm (Well Even I Ended Up Almost Hitting A Surfer With My Paddle By Accident) But once they got the hang of it, they absolutely loved it. There’s something incredibly freeing about being out in the open sea, away from the noise of the city, just floating on endless water with your friends beside you.

At one point, we decided to jump off our kayaks and just swim since our guide told us it was safe to do so. The water was cool and refreshing, and bobbing up and down with the waves was an experience in itself. We floated around, letting the ocean carry us for a bit, before climbing back onto our kayaks (Which, By The Way, Is Way Harder Than It Looks).

The best or rather, the funniest moment of the day happened on our way back to shore. A massive wave came out of nowhere and completely wiped me out. One second, I was confidently paddling, and the next, my kayak flipped, and I was underwater. I popped back up, coughing and laughing good thing my friends weren't in sight to witness this 😂

By the time we got back to the beach, we were exhausted but buzzing with excitement. We sat around for a while and thek quickly freshened up in the showers and got changed before finally heading out for a big meal to make up for all the energy we’d burned.

That day was a perfect mix of thrill, laughter, and just good old friendship. Ocean kayaking wasn’t just about paddling through the waves; it was about the moments in between—helping each other stay balanced, jumping into the water without a second thought, and, of course, the shared stories of who struggled the most (Hint: It Was Adil). I can’t wait for our next adventure!

Last weekend I had the chance to visit Hyderabad only because Ed Sheeran was playing in town for the weekend and I thought why not make an entire trip out of this and Me & @yugadi @alstonsjournal @foodiechique (She's No Longer Active Here Though) decided to spend about three days in the city in which two of the days were well spent in exploring the city and one of the day where we attended the concert.

Chowmahalla Palace

Our first stop on day one was the Chowmahalla Palace once home to the Nizams of Hyderabad now stands tall as a tribute for the visitors that come by to admire the blend of Persian, Mughal, and European architecture and royal artifacts.

Chowmahalla Palace is where architectural influences from the Mughals, Qutb Shahis, Iran, and Turkey come together in a seamless, grand design. The highlight? The double height darbar hall, built in a Turko Iranian style, with Qutb Shahi inspired columns lining the verandas. Right in the center of this opulent space sits the marble throne, Takht-i-Nishan, draped in a Mughal style masnad (A Cover Of Sorting s For The Seats). This was the heart of royal power where coronations took place, grand ceremonies unfolded, and the Nizams held court with their people.

Step inside Khilwat Mubarak today, and you’ll find ‘Silsila-a-Asafia,’ an exhibition that dives deep into the lives and legacy of the Asaf Jahi Nizams. Right after, ‘Mahallat’ offers a rare glimpse into the zenana showcasing the fashion, daily life, and artistic expressions of the royal women. Then there’s the Seileh Khana, an absolute spectacle of arms. Walls lined with an impressive range of swords, shields, guns, bows, and some of the finest weapon craftsmanship from the era it’s a sight to take in.

As you head upstairs, you’ll be greeted by a treasure trove of paintings, intricate crockery, fine cutlery, and handloom wonders. This isn’t just a collection; it’s history frozen in time. Take it slow some of these artifacts are so rare, you may never see them again.

Chowmahalla Palace, true to it's name, comprises four palaces—Afzal Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, and Aftab Mahal—each reflecting the opulence of Hyderabad’s Nizams. Aftab and Mahtab Mahals, the grandest of the four, exude European influences with their Corinthian columns, ornate chandeliers, and high ceilings, while Afzal and Tahniyat Mahals maintain a more traditional Indo-Persian aesthetic.

These palaces once housed the Nizam’s private quarters, filled with exquisite carpets, intricate stucco work, and priceless artifacts that still whisper tales of royal extravagance. While only Aftab and Afzal Mahals were open to the public at the time we visited, offering a glimpse into this regal past, the other two remain closed, leaving their interiors a mystery to visitors. Walking through their halls, one can almost picture the grandeur of the past—where diplomacy, culture, and luxury intertwined seamlessly.

Towards the end of the palace segment in the video, a special treat awaits an impressive collection of vintage cars once owned by the Nizams. From classic Rolls-Royces to elegant Buicks and Cadillacs, these automobiles stand as a testament to the royal family's extravagant lifestyle and love for fine engineering. Each car, immaculately preserved, tells it's own story of a bygone era when these majestic machines rolled through Hyderabad’s streets, carrying the Nizams in unparalleled style.

Standing tall at the heart of Hyderabad, Charminar is a masterpiece of Indo Islamic design with unmistakable Persian influences. Designed by Iranian architect Mir Momin Astrawadi in 1591, this imposing square monument stretches 20 meters on each side, with four grand minarets soaring to about 50 meters. Built with granite and lime mortar, it's structure is both solid and intricate, each of the four stories is separated by delicately carved rings, while the arches and motifs reflect the signature Qutb Shahi aesthetic.

The minarets, often believed to symbolise the four caliphs of Islam, feature a distinct lotus leaf base, an architectural hallmark of the dynasty. Tucked into the western end of the monument’s roof is a mosque, Hyderabad’s oldest accessible via 149 winding steps. Inside, 45 prayer spaces (musallah) and an open area allow for larger congregations, particularly during Friday prayers.

At the center of the courtyard, a small ablution fountain (vazu) serves as a reminder of the site’s spiritual significance. Over time, Charminar has seen modifications, including the addition of four clocks in 1889, yet it's essence remains unchanged—a fusion of elegance and resilience that has withstood the test of centuries. Whether viewed from below or atop it's minarets, the monument continues to define Hyderabad’s skyline with it's grandeur.

Bansilalpet Stepwell

Hidden beneath years of neglect, the Bansilalpet Stepwell is a remarkable relic of Hyderabad’s past, believed to date back to the 16th or 17th century. This six layered structure, crafted from stone masonry and lime plaster, showcases a fusion of architectural influences bearing the resilience of the Kakatiyas, the refinement of the Nizams, and the imprint of British planning. Originally known as Naganah Kunta, the stepwell became part of a model village developed by British resident Terence Humphrey Keyes, funded by Seth Bansilal, whose name it now carries.

For centuries, it served as a vital water source until the 1980s, when neglect turned it into a landfill, burying its heritage under layers of debris. The recent restoration uncovered it's intricate design ornamented steps, symmetrical tiers, and a testament to traditional water conservation techniques. Now revived, the stepwell not only reclaims its architectural grandeur but also stands as a symbol of Hyderabad’s enduring heritage.

The restoration of the Stepwell was nothing short of an architectural resurrection, led by Kalpana Ramesh and her team at The Rainwater Project. What began as an overwhelming excavation of decades worth of waste soon became a painstaking process of uncovering history, layer by layer with no existing blueprints or records, the team relied on on site discoveries to guide their work, collaborating with government bodies, conservation experts, and hesitant locals who initially opposed the project.

Structural reinforcements were carefully introduced to stabilize the crumbling masonry, while skilled artisans revived the intricate lime plasterwork. The surrounding area was transformed with walkways, seating spaces, and greenery, restoring not just the stepwell but its role as a communal gathering space. Today, what was once a forgotten pit of debris stands as a testament to Hyderabad’s resilience, an architectural marvel brought back to life through sheer determination and a vision to reclaim the city's water heritage.

Qutub Shahi Tombs

The Qutub Shahi Tombs is an enduring testament to the grandeur of the Golconda rulers, housing the final resting places of seven generations of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. Located near the Banjara Darwaza of Golconda Fort, these tombs showcase a striking fusion of Persian, Pathan, and Hindu architectural influences, constructed from grey granite with intricate stucco ornamentation. Each tomb, set upon a raised platform, follows a quadrangular design with pointed arches and towering domes, some originally adorned with vibrant blue and green tiles, though only remnants remain today.

The larger tombs are two storied, reaching heights of up to 43 meters, surrounded by elegant minarets. During the Qutub Shahi period, these tombs were not only revered as sacred mausoleums but also held social significance, granting refuge even to those seeking pardon.

Among the remarkable structures within the complex is the stepwell, an essential yet often overlooked element of the site. Designed to provide water to the tombs and their surrounding gardens, the stepwell exemplifies the engineering prowess of the era. Constructed using finely hewn granite and lime mortar, it follows a symmetrical design with precisely carved steps leading down to the water source.

The well’s architecture reflects the Persian influence seen throughout the tombs, emphasizing functionality while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Despite falling into neglect after the decline of the Qutub Shahi reign, restoration efforts beginning with Salar Jung III in the 19th century and continuing under present day heritage conservation initiatives have helped revive the stepwell and it's surroundings, ensuring that this historic water system remains a part of Hyderabad’s rich architectural legacy.

Researching these four magnificent places wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth every moment. Over the course of three days, I sifted through countless sources, cross-referencing details to ensure accuracy, diving deep into architectural insights and restoration efforts. Then came the editing 7 straight hours of work, adjusting clips, refining transitions. This was my first major work after transitioning from Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve 19, and while the learning curve was steep, it was an exciting shift.

One important thing to note for anyone planning to document historic locations in India is that DSLR cameras are heavily restricted in most sites, and in places where they are allowed, the charges for using them can be exorbitant (P.S The Entry Fee For Foreigners Are Also Unreasonably High 😭) While I had envisioned capturing the intricate carvings, domes, and architectural grandeur in the highest quality possible, I had to adapt and rely solely on my phone camera (iPhone 15 Pro) for most of the footage.

It was frustrating at times, knowing that I could have framed certain shots better or captured finer details with my DSLR, but I made the best of what I had. Despite these limitations, I poured everything into ensuring that the essence and beauty of these places came through in my video. Hopefully, I’ve done justice to them, and if nothing else, I hope this inspires more people to explore and appreciate the rich heritage we have around us.

People have questioned me on why on earth do I go to these concerts if I just sit and record them on my phone and not enjoy them? The thing is who said anything about me not enjoying them? These are my favourite artist that I have been listening to since my childhood and it was a blast being at the concert singing along with them in the crowd. These videos that I take are primarily memories for me to relive in the future, I would definitely want to show them to my kids saying that 'Look I Was Here At Their Concert'

Plus, I like making content like quality content that I put on Instagram for the few people that follow me over there and they enjoy them as well since most of them don't really go to these concerts as such and they get to have a blast looking at my feed.

Hope you guys enjoyed this one, it's taken a while to get the video down to perfection ✨

P.S this was Coldplay's Biggest Ever Concert and I WAS THERE, Well it was Me & My Sweetheart @yugadi , I got these tickets as a small present to surprise her before she heads out to Germany this March, but i couldn't just keep it in I told her the minute I got the tickets 😭 😂

Initially Coldplay had announced only 2 Shows in India which would happen in Mumbai on the 18 & 19 on January and the Tickets first went Live on the 22nd September and there was a very long virtual queue to get the tickets and they were very limited and the tickets just got sold out like that and seeing this crazy response, Coldplay decided to introduce another show on the 21st of January and the tickets for this one went LIVE the next day which again just got sold out immediately, and a lot of fans were disappointed that they couldn't get the tickets, even though they waited in line for a very long time, including me.

Source

Few weeks later in the middle of October, Coldplay decided to introduce to other 2 more shows on the 25 and 26 of January and this time in Ahmedabad and that too in the Largest Stadium in the world which has a capacity of 1,32,000 People! the tickets went LIVE on 16 November and well it was the same situation again where I couldn't get the tickets which turned out to be super disappointing.

Coldplay had also introduced Infinity Tickets which was available in December and these tickets were super limited and you could only buy them in pairs but the catch is that you don't get to decide where you'll be in the concert it is decided in random so you could pretty much be anywhere in the concert. It could be at the Standing Section or somewhere the Seated Section but as usual I couldn't get these as well. @yugadi gave up on the concert during the 2nd round of tickets but I still had to try and at that moment this was it and all hopes was lost.

15 Jan, They made another announcement for the Ahmedabad show that Limited Tickets would be available and that they go LIVE at 3pm and I thought that why not try it? if I get it then it would be a great surprise to give my love if not then i'm sure i'd think of something.

I'm now in the Queue and OMFG I finally got it and I had just 4 minutes to book the tickets and accidentally I selected the most of expensive tickets available and I was like fuck because this is something definitely couldn't afford and I clicked back and I thought I would get back into the seat selection but it just cancel the whole thing and I was heartbroken I quickly went back to the booking process and somehow I got back in. I don't know how and I didn't care how at that point I just quickly picked up the cheapest ticket available and I booked it!

Round Trip flights to Ahmedabad from Chennai was initially Rs 29,098 ($ 337) which was okay at fist but then once we were about to pay for the flight the prices increased immediately 😭 This was so unexpected and now the final total came to Rs 32,468 ($ 376) 🥲

This will be the first of many flight we will be taking together.

Passing through airport security was a breeze since we weren’t travelling with any luggage also in India the Government introduced an app called Digiyatra for quicker check-ins at the airport, you can load in your boarding pass on this app which gets verified using your government ID at the Airport, all you have to do is scan the boarding pass present in the app at a self check in Terminal and you can pass through the various checkpoints within the airport in a breeze.

We had about 45 minutes till the boarding begins and we just decided to chill and discuss about the trip. Since our flight was on standby a bit further from the departure terminal, we had to board a shuttle bus to our flight. It was a bit chilly that morning, and the weather was quite pleasant.

Airplanes happen to be my favourite mode of transportation. It's just very exciting personally for me to be up in the air in this contraption that can take you from one place to another in a very short amount of time, that technology and science has always been fascinating for me.

Once we took off from Chennai, I decided to use their barf bag as a phone holder and had it fastened to the tray table in front of my, we had per downloaded Season 2 of The Night Agent just to kill time if we get bored and mid-episode 1, I clearly fell asleep since I woke up way too early in the morning 😂

Two hours later, we finally arrived in Ahmedabad and we were so excited for the day. The minute we got out of the airport. We could literally hear "Sky Full Of Stars" being played in the background and we were like wow ✨

Everyone there is excited for the concert and they had even set up a special booth right outside the airport. Where you could get customised Coldplay T-shirts, they had set up Two Heat Presses where you could pick out the design you like and a black or a white T-shirt of your choice and they would immediately get the T-shirt ready for you and you had like a long line of people waiting to get their hands on this.

The two of us were pretty famished since we didn't have a chance to grab breakfast, so we decided to head to Tim Hortons right outside the airport.

We took a Hot Double Double Latte, Chicken Kheema Sourdough Melt and a Maple Caramel Doughnut, spent about an hour and a half at this place looking to kill time since the gates to the concert opens at 2 PM and was currently 11:30 AM.

On our way out we found this free photo booth that they had set up for visitors and I found this really cool where you can just go and take a picture of yourself and it generates a QR code where you can scan and download the image for free like how cool is that?

We didn't plan on taking an Uber to the venue since it was a bit expensive so we decided to hop on a public bus and they were selling the tickets at the counter nearby where we just had to pay Rs 50 ($ 0.58) per person. The bus does not directly go to the concert venue, but it goes to a place nearby called Rani where you could get down and catch a Metro that goes directly to the concert venue. Out of all this excitement, we missed getting down at our stop at rani and we had to get down at the next stop called Vadaj.

At the Metro station, you could buy the tickets from a vending machine where you just had to pay online so we quickly picked up a ticket to Motera Stadium which was the name of the stop we had to get down for the concert. This ticket was Rs 10 ($ 0.12) Per Person.

The journey was about 15 minutes and closer to our station. We could see the Narendra Modi Stadium from the train and it was just massive and as the train passed right in front of the stadium we could see the hordes of people just waiting in front of the gate to gain entry.

Got out of the station and made a way to the stadium and it was 1:30 PM and we decided to chill next to a shaded area near by gate while everyone else were waiting in the hot sun.
